This song holds a secret that still impress me to this day.
The most amazing thing is that this secret is even more present during this performance, which makes the song even more unique.

@@the11th84 The Kick drum and clap is on the off-beat, not on the on-beat. Replay the song at around 1:18, and hear it for yourself.
@@Walexo45 I think the clap *is* the main beat during the verse. "I should have list-ened to her, so hard to keep con- trol" aligns with the clap.
What throws it off, is the last 1/8 note before the chorus is accented with a heaver kick & crash; this makes us think that's the start of the measure. It feels more natural with the '4 on the floor' , even though the vocals align with the clap. Then the bass brings us back to the clap leading the beat. But then, 'all a part of this great na-tion' aligns with the accented kick, throwing it again.
Basically, it's 8/8 throughout the song. But that accent shoves the groove around.
Honestly, there might even be a skipped beat at the end. In all my years playing, never counted it 😆 just felt the groove, focus on keeping the clap on point.
Wow! Loving the backing singers! That ending is epic! My fav live performance of Survivalism for sure!
2024 and we need a new NIN tour!
Such a powerful song. Works really well live.
Ladies, you ROCKS!!! 🔥❤️
Damn! This one was never one of my faves by him, but what a performance
Great video, thanks for posting. This is actually off the album "Year Zero" not "With Teeth".
You guys did a fantastic job. The nine inch nails show has to be one of the best ever done. I wasn't a fan of them until I saw them on your show. Its probably the only version I would buy.
PINO!!!
So Good. My God
Yesssss!

@@tonylewis5070 thanks lol. Im all over it, u betya
Awesome performance but man, it would kill my buzz as a performer to look out and see that lame-ass crowd.
I'd love to know how TR hears this song. Like where is the first beat in each measure? Is he on the off beat during the verses?
Jason Chamberlain yup
Glad I'm not the only one who also thinks about this
I’ve never been able to hear this song on the correct beat. I was frustrated for years, but now I just accept it because it’s one of my all time favs. Music is fucking fascinating.
yeah same problem with gave up. the beat seams to be one the snare drum where it lands on the kick drum.
Really wish I understood the math behind this better, lol. IDK how he does it!
Bassist and keyboardist played for Maynard James Keenan in Puscifer.
Them singers... they're selling it and they're feeling it.. shit...
crowd kinda sucked
It's so bizarre. He wrote this song in-part to critique the neo-cons of the 2000s.
But now it's more applicable to the progressives. Oh how the pendulum swings.
The world hasn't become too progressive... you've become conservative.. dummy. This song directly criticizes you.
@@ponfed
LMAO you have no idea what my political beliefs are. Nice try though. You know this response of yours kind of proves my point right?
I also never said "the world is too progressive". That's YOUR belief about ME, not MY belief. Just so we're clear.
What I was saying is more accurately summarized as "There are progressives today who exist and this song's critique applies more to them now than the neo-cons Reznor was originally criticizing." Vis a vis, the progressives are in power now, at least in America, and are committing many of the same mistakes neo-cons were back in their heyday.
Now you may think I'm wrong on that, but at least get my argument right before you go off half-cocked eh? I know this is UA-cam, so comments are pretty low caliber as a rule but...you could try harder couldn't you?
I believe in you Stephane. Despite your bitch-ass remark. XD
LOVE NIN THAT IS ALL.
