The problem with the black version it is that it scratches easy, about wearing it like a watch i do and actually buy a leather strap it looks cool :p, as a watch the battery last me about a week (without diving) and around 5 days as a semi smart watch. It came from fabric with deep stop activated. At the beginning i found it a li'll nagging but i get use to, the whole reason of wearing a dive computer it is to be safe from decompression sickness so i even let the deep stop activated. About accidentally switching screens it has happened to me but not very often.
That’s dive time battery , if you use as a watch you turn off the dive screens I have mine running for over a week on one charge
I think it’s not a fair comparison between D5 to D4i. D4i does not have color screen, compass, Bluetooth, and user firmware upgrade. And most importantly, the algo on the D4i/D6i is the most conservative in the industry. D5 fixed that by allowing more liberal settings with the Suunto Fused RGBM 2, and it’s priced at the same MSRP of D6i (although nowadays the street price of the D6i is slightly lower than D5). You see dive instructors wear D4i because it allows them shorter bottom time during teaching.
D5 looks cooler, D4i is reliable and handy. No charging etc. Still the goto
currently getting used to mine. There are loads of battery saving setting you can use to extend charge life. Its really comfortable on the wrist as well. !!
I found turning down the brightness made it hard to see
Exactly that, furthermore, I'm using the D5 since Feb 2020, eg on an 8 days dive cruise and had NEVER EVER one of the mentioned problems 🤔. The battery lasts incredibly long, did 24 dives on this cruise plus using the wristclock mode and charged it just after the 21st dive, had 38% left. Love this dive comp 👌.
Cheers
I've use the D9ti for a while upgraded to the Teric, was a nice design for their first shot at the watch style computer but have to say the eon core w transmitter is the bees 🐝 knees, simply that larger display for when multitasking taking videos, bouncy, etc...
Suunto Zoop Novo and Cressi Leonardo are what I use...all anyone but a technical diver will ever need. Anything else is overkill (or for scuba princesses 👸). Don't spend more than $250-$300 for a dive computer.
You don't have to charge every day. It estimates the dive time left on the battery. When not diving it lasts much much longer. I recently bought it, so far it is good. I wanted to have something that has a screen with active lighting, instead of just black and white contrast. My eyes are getting worse, and LED screens are easier to read. Good review though.. the honesty is much appreciated
If you dive 2 or 3 a day, you have to charge daily.
Try Oceanic Geo 2.0 👌
Good review. Love the look of it but you've convinced me that this is not the computer for me.
