    Very... very well thought-out content. A rarity in youtube. I really love the editing/warmth/quality of the video itself, but most of all you perform like someone straight out of BBC. A great talent in commentary. Of course I clicked for the music analysis, but stayed for the overall content quality. Brilliant.

    The piano book is a fantastic idea. I work on software product that is both open source and commercially available. I think it’s fascinating to follow how you are trying similar concepts in the sampling industry. The law seems to be slightly different wrt program code and audio samples. But I think there could still be a legal framework that could fit making this project both open source and a commercial product.

    Great Watch. Sounds very nice. It would be great to have pictures of all the pianos as they are being recorded. Also, some info on mics and the recording chain used would be great. I know it would be more work but it would be so useful to know the background of the recording. I also think it would be good if someone used the piano instrument in a song or composition that they credit the maker of the piano library used. If I was uploading a piano that I had recorded, I would love to know if it inspired someone to write a piece of music. It would also be courteous to the hard work that someone has put in.

    Thankyou again for setting this whole thing up. Sampled the piano at my parent's house this week, it worked OK but not as good as it could be, so will go back and have another go with this new template. I also sampled my fretless bass guitar (acoustically, with microphones) and the sound I'm getting is probably now my go-to bass tone... so there are hidden, unexpected benefits all over.

    This is quite amazing information that you’re giving away here. I will soon be creating my own libraries from electric bass samples (I was primarily an electric bassist for about 12 years and have never found a decent sample libraries for electric bass) as well as very unique instruments made from random found sounds. I’ve been working with a successful youtuber recently who you may know of, Andrew Huang. We’ve been creating music out of sampled sounds from various unexpected objects. A cover of Ariana’s 7 rings using actual rings for example. I thought it would be very cool to have those sounds and percussive loops and instruments made into kontakt libraries. I’ll be using the information in this video as well as your latest video showing how to put an instrument into kontakt. The value of what you’re giving away here on your channel is amazing. Thank you.

    I'm loving v.3 of PB. I'm very new to sampling, and I'm curious what makes the most sense when it comes to scaling up. If you were going to double the total number of samples, what makes for a better sampled instrument: 1. more velocity layers, 2. round robins, or 3. sampling pitches closer that a P5 apart?

    Christian...I need your advice. Firstly I should point out that I have Autism...In a turn of events I've found your channel the only one I can trust In terms of the wild west that is youtube. I spend my days trying to produce Hip Hop like the old school Kanye west sound a.k.a ‘Through The Wire’ and after watching your sampling videos I feel inspired to be able actually apply the ‘akai’ style of sampling...even though i’m using Native instruments maschine (A massive mistake seeing as I honed my craft on Akai 2500 and Logic pro!)..Anyway...Is there anyway you can show me how to find 1. The fundamental frequency of a sample & how to implement that into eq and mapping across a sampler? I’ve watched your videos on making your own samples and feel like I can trust your advice? I appreciate your very busy and understand if you can’t offer this advice. Anyway your videos are a great way of myself being able to enjoy a conversation about sampling that I can’t have with anyone else because of my social skills. Ben

    Hey Christian, terribly sorry that I'm a complete idiot when it comes to the EXS24... how on earth does the file management work in that? I can't get my head around it. Maybe mostly because I want to control where to save my instrument and to keep the .exs file bundled with the sample files.
    As if you had any time left but an appendix to this video showing a little bit more in depth of those kind of boring things would be more than appreciated.

    Thank you for making this process and the free piano instrument. Is anyone else having an issue with the sustain pedal on this piano. I'm using the exs instrument, and experiencing some samples not sustaining sometimes when the pedal is down. I know this should be handled by exs24 as either sustainable or one shot, so it sounds like a hardware issue but it's working fine in the same project on other sampled instruments in exs24.

    • @sasquatch_life
      @sasquatch_life 5 років тому

      For anyone else who's had the same issue, the voice count in EXS24 (top left) has a default of 16 notes. This needs to be increased if you are playing something a bit more dense, otherwise the "older" notes will cut short. in my case a voice count of 50 is more than enough.

    Could we perhaps get a really basic set up for recording a piano without the front removed, and maybe a tip on what mics to use if one can't afford a stereo-vintage-neumann-gold pair?

    • @TheCrowHillCo
      @TheCrowHillCo  5 років тому

      Simen Hauge Paulsen sure, will do, the best position for the mics is always where it sounds best I remove the front so you can hear the piano’s innards other than that it doesn’t change the sound much because the piano’s sound emanates from the sound board which is at the back on an upright and from underneath on a grand.

    Hello! Been thoroughly enjoying your content, great stuff!
    Are you thinking of this MVP format as just a minimum requirement or is every library going to have to follow this template? Could one for example make a library with a bit smaller intervals between the samples and an extra velocity layer and submit it, or would that break with the philosophy of keeping it as simple as possible?
