Hi friends! A quick reminder not to post spoilers for "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes". The book isn't out in many countries yet, and won't be for another few weeks, so it's incredibly inconsiderate. Also, many of you have been asking when I'll make videos about it. I won't be making videos about it until the movie adaptation is released, as this firstly gives everyone time to buy and read the book, and secondly will allow us to use the secondary canon that is a movie to base ideas off of. Thank you and happy bubbles!
Joanna is to blame. Partially Coin, but mostly Joanna. "The whole country loves your sister, if they tortured her or did anything to her, forget the districts, there would be riots in the damn capital." -Joanna Then, when Joanna has been rescued and is now a part of 13, now conveniently Prim is there when Coin does the double explosion attack... After which there are riots in the capitol... It is my strong assumption that Joanna brought this concept up to Coin and they made sure she would be sent in as a medic there.
I vote for Coin, she only wanted political power, and she was no better than Snow. I didn’t see the movies, only read the books, and I rememner from that that I felt very suspicious towards Coin. The fact that Katniss even kills her later only affirms that.
I thought it was obvious that it was Coin, but I do want to bring your attention to something. In the movie, Gale was clearly distraught about what had happened, that Coin had used his idea for this atrocity. However, in the book, he seemed pretty indifferent towards it, like it didn't matter either way. To him, the ends justified the means.
It always annoyed me how indifferent he was especially because he knew how close katniss was with Prim and if it was one of his siblings he would be similarly outraged. It was definitely Coins fault but Gale isn't without blame even though I don't think he feels guilty.
@@amberwarnke6434 I thought it was very obvious that Gale cared about Prim. He saved her.. twice. Once in district 12 when he didn't even know if Katniss survived the Hunger Games after the TVs went black and once in District 13 when they were going to be bombed and she ran to get Buttercup. Gale risked his own life and would have died but ran to go get Prim. So I don't understand why people think he didn't care about her death... It never implies that.
@@Katmiobeth There's also a deleted scene in the first movie where Gale is teaching Prim how to hunt when Katniss was in the Games. I completelty agree with you about how Gale had always cared about Prim, maybe even like a younger sister.
I understand that Gale made the bombs, but it's like saying the person who made the gun is responsible for the lives that gun takes. It isn't the creator who is to blame it's the person who pulls the trigger
Here's the thing. If you make the weapon, in this case helped design the weapon you are responsible for what it is used for. Just like engineers create protective gear for the medical field they would be responsible for helping protect health workers. Gale helped design a weapon meant to kill, lets not forget he didn't see anyone in the capitol as he says innocent. Did he know Prim was going to be on that field? no. Did he know other people were going to lured in to help the people injured, only to be surprised with a second more powerful bomb? Yes, that's how he helped design in it for. Coin IS the reason Prim is gone but so is Gale and anyone else who helped make those weapons.
@@helenestriker8354 oh I didn't think of that! I forgot about his view on the capital citizens. The only thing is that he didn't know it would be used then. If I'm remembering correctly he thinks the weapon had been vetoed and won't be used. I think if he had known the weapons would be used then yes he would have been more responsible if he didn't protest them or anything. But since he didn't know then I think he is at least not nearly as responsible for Prim's death as Coin is.
The problem is that Gale's bomb was designed to kill first responders and medics. Maybe he intended it for *Capitol* first responders rather than the ones from his side, but still. Even in ancient times, doctors and medical teams were considered to be off limits, and deliberately targeting medical responders was considered to be dishonorable in war for most cultures.
@@angelaphsiao I don't remember them saying anywhere these weapons were designed for first responders. Then again, the book was so tedious, I might have blocked most of the smaller details out.
DigiDestined13 They say that the the first explosion will kill and injure people, and when others rush in to help, the second bigger explosion will go off. They never explicitly say it’s targeting first responders, but that’s basically what it is.
Remember Gale tho... he was part of the revolution and was the best bomb specialist in the country (^~^) I feel like it was Coin because she had say in every little thing and controlled everything too(^~^)
@@holliebrooke7327 He was using them to shield his mansion, so that the rebels would not be able to advance without hurting them. At least that's how I understood it.
Another detail regarding how Prim ended up at the front lines, there was another untrained civilian who was sent into the Capitol during the siege: Peeta. And whose direct orders sent him there? Exactly.
@@StoryDiver I went back and checked and you're right, the book does briefly mention him joining in the training drills in 13 after a while. Must've slipped my mind, my bad! Even so, it's really doubtful that he would've passed the exam to get put in the field in his mental state at the time. Coin still definitely overrode that to send him out there, so it wouldn't be much of a stretch to say that she'd done the same with Prim.
Story Diver Also, even Boggs knew that Coin sent Peeta there in hopes of him killing Katniss since he still wasn’t mentally well. That’s why Boggs transfers the holo to Katniss.
I think there’s one main flaw in your analysis: you forgot the fact that when (presumably) Coin sent Prim to be killed by the bomb, District 13 believed she had died and already began using her death for propaganda.
@@StoryDiver The Capitol knew, but there's nothing that indicates throughout the course of Mockingjay that they were aware she was alive. IIRC, Prim looked stunned to see Katniss alive before the bombs blew up. Of course, something could have happened outside of Katniss's perspective such that the rebels discovered she was alive, but I find that unlikely, personally. It would be difficult for me to imagine that the rebels wouldn't just assume that the Capitol would arrest her corpse if possible.
Bloo95 Bloo95 it’s never stated exactly, but it’s very likely that Coin knew she was alive, as the whole country knew she was alive. It was announced on live Tv and broadcast everywhere that Katniss was still alive and very much wanted. There’s searches for her and the rest of the star squad (posters, videos etc). A man who looked like Peeta was beaten to death because people thought it was him. Coin definitely would have known, wether she told Prim or not is a different story
@@Bloooo95 In the books it's clear that Beetee's team followed all transmissions from the Capitol. Even broke in in the transmissions. And when Snow did not find Katniss body all citizens od the Capitool got warnings about how dangerous Katniss and her team was. (Her team because Boggs had handed over the command to her when he was dying). Coin knew the initial mentioning of Katniss dead was premature and that she still was alive.
He thought it would be used for something else if he wanted her dead he would not have saved her from distract 12he could not have gotten coin to one send prim out or make the bombs explode
While I think Coin is mostly to blame, Gale isn't innocent. He designed the bombs not only to kill civilians but also the first responders, which is just barbaric. Coin was only able to drop these bombs designed to kill first responders like Prim because Gale designed the bombs, he handed the way to kill Prim to her on a platter
Prim was too young to be a first responder. And even if that rule was broken there was no reason to put her on the front lines. Only Coin would have put her there. I think it was an attempt to kill Katniss, she knew Katniss would run at her when she saw her there. Remember how badly burnt she got in the book.
It was all Coin's plan, break katniss (as she was the only ' threat ') by killing prim which she must have thought that she succeded when katniss agreed for the ' symbolic ' Hunger games; to turn Snow's men against him. I think katniss herself knew that gale is not responsible but there friendship broke because of the hatred the war filled in him . Also, I think the ending wasn't fair for gale's character like him taking a fancy job at 2 and katniss convincing herself that he must be with some other girl. I never wanted it to end like that because I used to adore their friendship from the first page of the first book, both fatherless ,thrown on streets , find refugee from the world in each others company. I wish they would have mended their differences. It is the first comment I ever did and it feels good that you are so interactive with the subscribers.
@@lilyjohhnson3088 actually no they would have created other bombs to bomb that place anyway Alma set the whole thing up she killed prim, prim would be dead weather Gale created the bomb or not
@@sindelscat9336 Very true. I don't think Coin would have cared what weapons she used, just the end result. Heck, Gale's saying "I don't know" could indicate that he isn't sure if they went with HIS MODEL or if they used a similar one created by another rebel, like Beetee.
I agree with your breakdown. I think even if Prim hadn't been killed, the fact that Katniss knew he could design weapons like that might have crossed a line for her.
I'm really late, who knows if anyone will read this, but here are my two cents : It was Coin who dropped the bombs, (to be honest I alwas thought it was quite obvious and I'm surprised it was even a discussion) and there are 2 options : 1) Maybe she didn't intend on releasing her own medics here and there, we don't know, mistakes can happen, it's a war after all. 2) She did it on purpose, which seems more likely, as we know she saw Katniss as a threat to her rising to power, and she knew that killing Prim would break her. The scene with Boggs is a clue for me, since I believe Suzanne Collins never writes a scene that has no purpose to the story. As Katniss said, Coin knew that Katniss would be likely to see it no matter where she was, as it was probably televised When it comes to Gale, he helped create the bomb, therefore is a fault, but not directly, he never knew it was going to be used on Prim. But the fact is, that he created a bomb, that he knew may be used on people at some point, and we know that Gale doesn't really care about people's lives when it comes to war, so really, though he never intended to kill Prim with those bombs, he didn't create them as a hobby or with no purpose in mind. I would also like to mention that Beetee helped cretae the bombs, which no one ever mentions, and that he is partially to blame too.
They could’ve been a lil forced to do it because they didn’t want them or their families to die. Coin wanting power could have threatened them to hurt someone they love if they didn’t help her win the war
Gracie ya at first I didn’t think of it but the I remembered how katniss hot threatened too so then I was like wait she could have done the same to them
I hate that katniss blames gale in any shape or form. He would never send a bomb to kill prim and like you said even if he wanted to he couldn’t. I thought it was clear that it was coins idea and I don’t understand how it could be anyone else.
Completely agree. I feel it was just written that way because it was an easy way for her to finally choose between Gale and Peeta. But it didn’t make sense to me because it really wasn’t his fault.
@@StoryDiver I always thought it was because of his morals, because he always showed that he didn't care about the Capitol citizens getting killed, even in the movies they had a discussion about this, gale said because of war he didn't care about citizens from the other side dying
@@cherryberry9468 i wish she just choose gale, not peeta, even from the first movie he's such a burden, katniss do all the fighting and he's just always wounded (sorry for my bad English)
gale built the bombs to be used exclusively by coin....he knew what it was meant to do, frighten civilians and detonate the 2nd blast. I'm sure Katniss is most upset about prim....but Katniss had a spot for innocent kids, of which many were killed by gale/coins bomb
Just gonna say that how in the beginning you said that Snow was lying when he said he wasn't wasteful of children, I just want to point out that to Snow the hunger games have a reason (to remind future generations about the dark days and to show that even the strongest of people cannot overcome the power of the capitol) even if it doesn't have any reason to us
I got the impression when he said he wasn't "wasteful" was, he liked the show. He even had a conversation with Craine about the Hunger Games and if he really wanted to round up 24 kids he could just put them together and kill them all at once
Yes, brilliant theory. I was blaming Gale, but you're exactly right; he wasn't in charge, which makes Katniss ending their relationship all the sadder.
I think all Coin wanted to do, since she had a lot of power in her hands, was to succeed with the rebellion. She didn't care about innocent people dying, she just cared for the people that helped the rebellion succeed. She would do careless things without thinking about the outcome.
I respectfully disagree. I think every single thing Coin did; every eventuality was calculated, including innocent people dying. She knew deaths would inflame the populace for "the cause"., so that was just fine with her.
@@lilymack4028 I do agree with you, however, Coin was only it for the power. She would be the new President Snow, if not worst. She was very corrupt and hellbent.
The basic idea of the two-stage explosion was that it WOULD target those who rush in to help. In fact, in its original design, the second explosion is far larger than the first... So, yes, Gale did design it to do EXACTLY what it did. It was designed to be a nefarious bomb...
I vote her mother was to blame. Prim was 13 years old how did miss Everdeen let that happen. Horrible how Katniss points fingers at Gale. Yeah he made the bomb but her mother let her go
I’m not sure her mother was able to stop her. If Prim had orders to go from Coin, for example, there’s nothing anyone can do. But I agree that her mother could potentially have done more
Prim was also starting to show more Independence and make her own choices. She told Katniss that she doesn't need protection. She's starting to grown into her own by pursuing medicine. Shown when Gale was wiped. So I believe Prim didn't want to just sit around and do nothing. So she went out with Coins permission and Coin knowing what her plan was for Katniss.
Gale created it to kill enemies like the guards but coin used it to kill People... So its like i created somthing to helo People but there is allways som1 who use it againts People...
@@StoryDiver I have to disagree. Medics from most countries have to treat wounded enemies. They are usually with a unit but on their own they would not attack or arrest soldiers or civilians. It is simply inhumane and disgusting to specifically target these people. You also do not destroy hospitals etc to demotivate the opponent civilians and their militarily. It's like: We do a little race and we both agreed bevorhand to start after a countdown and the bang but suddenly one of the two athletes decides to start early. It is simply not fair and in the end it only leads to more suffering. Next time the other one would start even earlier or cheat in a different way.(pushing, drugs) Gale justifies his wicked plans with "the enemies does it as well, we are at war and this is how you win it" is not okay at all. Let the capitol civilians know the regime they support is not playing fair. There is a conflict you can not agree about, that is why there is war, but it has nothing at all to do with this matter so let's all agree about not making it even worse than it has to be. Not helpful if both parties start to attack medical inferstructur to win.
It was a bomb created to kill as many people as possible, the second detonation was always implied to kill first responders. I don't think Gale thought that his own medics would fall into that category. But yeaaaaah still a war crime.
@@skiwi3387 When they spoke about the nut in district two, he did not care that a few of the people in the nut were on his side/spies for District 13. He simply expected them to give their life for the greater good. Good people but their death is necessary. He is not stupid. He never expected Prim to be killed like this. She was to young to be a soldiers. Not even as a Medis was she supposed to on the battlefield. And to be in the capital! Right were the war was the thickest? But Gale should have known that this bomb would at best kill only the capital medics. Which is a war crime to rob the capital civilians and soldiers of medical aid. And then? What did he expect? There would be revenge. That is for sure. Even if it leads to the win people never forget. Winning a war like this means nothing. And he might not have expected that Coin would use this device in the capital were rebel medics would be as well. But he should have thought about it. Not Prim but other people who are exactly like her. Who might be a little bit older but who just want to help to end pain and suffering.
With a new hunger games book rumored to be release this year, I started to reread the books and the watch the movies. Gosh I just love the Hunger games. I think in the end, everyone (some directly and some indirectly) are to blame for Prim's death. Prim is a sad calamity of a war. The war between the US and Japan in WW2 came to mind when I was reading the last book. Gale - He is my favorite character in the books. I have been his biggest defender especially in Mockingjay. Like with the atomic bombs, the inventors werent the ones who actually gave orders to drop it. He however indirectly is to blame for designing such a dangerous technology. I dont think Gale is an evil character people out him to be. I doubt he would actually bomb children to win a war. Coin and Snow - Both are equally evil who has no regards for anyone but themselves. I have a feeling that snow is the one who bomb the children and manipulated Katniss into thinking it was Coin. Both Coin and Snow are master manipulators. Correct me because I havent reread the books in ages... they werent actually sure who's bombs they were right? In the end, Snow won because katniss killed Coin. I believe thats his motive... he doesnt like losing.
THANK YOU for being pro-Gale!!!! Fandom is WAYYY too pro-Peeta. I feel like people who blame Gale for killing Prim are just looking for excuses as to why Peeta is better.
@@JR-qf1sv ive always felt katniss is always herself around gale. They knew each other. In the end, I feel like both Peeta and Katniss needed someone who is mentally stable to help them heal.
even if Gale did have command he would have to know where he and katniss would be and when so that they don't die. And since he knew where everyone would be that means he would know Prim would have come and Gale loves Prim.
Coin sent Prim to the frontlines, knowing she would be collateral damage. She meant it to break Katniss. And if Coin for some reason believed Katniss was dead, eliminating Prim could have been deemed essential to Coin to prevent anyone from making Prim any sort of figurehead (especially since Prim was the reason Katniss ever became a tribute and then the Mockingjay).
on point asesssment...definitely Coin wanted Katnniss broken, & by killing Prim, she'd secure Katniss' promise to kill Snow...Snow made sure to point that out to katniss in the gardens, by absolving Plutarch...dont know why the director/writers changed that, when it was crucial
Snow: I’m not wasteful! Also Snow: Yeah so every year, I’m just gonna yoink two kiddos who could be beneficial to y’all’s industry which supplies the Capitol. No big.
I still can’t get over that Prim is dead. Prim was the whole reason this whole thing exists and the love between Katniss and Prim is astronomical. Prim was katniss’s reason behind every decision she made. It really upsets me I wish she could still be alive😭
Keep in mind snow is my favourite character. I think it says a lot about snow how he didn’t get a standard ‘villain escape’ at the end of the book, he is smart enough to have realised even if he did manage to get away there is nowhere for him to go. Honestly I like to believe he had an opportunity to get away but decided not to, coin had everyone on her side at that point anyway.
Panem is a VERY Underpopulated place. It would have been very easy for Snow to have built some well stocked Haven where he could live out the rest of his days (he is over 80) in comfort. His only problem was he lacked the means to get there...
I think anyone who could blame Gale needs to remember the years of psychological damange that would have occured to him due to him losing his father and seeing what happens in his district, also we forget he saw his district burned to the ground by the Capital. That can harden anyone and make them appear heartless. Consider people of the African diaspora that have an inherent distrust and even hate for white people. The years spent watching injustice could make someone believe that the world would be better without these people and therefore killing them is justified. But the blame falls soley on Coin. Only she would have sent Prim out there in the first place. Remember that district 13 at times is more rigid than the Capital even for the the citizens of 12 so living a life similar to them after the war would not be appealing to the other districts let alone the Capital. To hold on to national power, she needed the face of the rebellion, Katniss, to be on her side. Her mistake was using that type of bomb. See if she had activated a pod instead Katniss would be none the wiser and her plan might have worked. She could continue to manipulate Katniss.
But that's the thing - that's exactly why KATNISS doesn't understand what he's doing. Katniss has almost the exact same trauma, right down to how their fathers died - and SHE'S not like that. She still knows better. Being hurt is not an excuse to hurt others. You won't find a single trauma victim who says it is. It's an explanation for the behaviour, but never an excuse - if Gale does bad things, Gale is still a bad person regardless of what he's been through. If Gale HAD set off those bombs (and I don't think he did; I think he designed them, but he didn't have the authority to set them off), that would still be completely his fault. And if his trauma somehow did impact his decision making skills, he shouldn't be in a fucking war and no one with a brain would've let him design weapons.
@@LordofFullmetal You have some points correct. However it might be narrow thinking to always see things in black and white as good or bad. The facts are trauma can have different effects on different people especially children. Now while Gale was 18 at the Reaping he still spend his entire childhood seeing the worst that humans can do to each other. Children see the world differently to adults. I was assaulted and almost died when I was 12 and carried a feeling of rage and hate for a long time against men. When I was 25 I saw my attacker and the first thought that crossed my mind was how easy it would be to push him into traffic on a busy street. I walked up to him and almost did it but my cellphone rang and he turned around. He saw my face and hurriedly walked off. My point is there is hurt and there is persistent trauma. The term excuse is unfair to people who go through things like this (just ask the black community in Minneapolis right now). The more appropriate term might be mitigating circumstances. You are right when you say people have a choice but you have to be in a frame of mind where you can distinguish these choices to have a chance of making the right one.
Rohini Guiland I’m sorry that happened to you I agree as well plus he had his best friend ripped apart from him and had to go to the mines where his father died and I doubt it was nice down in the mines and he probably paranoia that the mines could collapse any moment
@@LordofFullmetalGale isn't a bad person. It's the suffering constantly that made him like that. When your father is blown up in the mines and you get persecuted constantly by the capitol, it makes you angry. Gale is a victim of war.
I just got into The Hunger Games series this year, and I love your videos about it! Super fun to imagine different theories. I know I’m a year late to this video, but as soon as I learned prim died I immediately came here. I agree it was President Coin!
Thank you for makimg this! The points you make are definitely plausable and make sense. Coin is extremely suspicious throughout the time we see her and I always thought of her as a villain. Have you thought about Beetee? We know he is very talented when it comes to technology, althogh i dont think he would have a motive to kill the children and/or Prim. I cant remember if he voted for or against the reverse hunger games.
Are we really discussing this. While Gayle isn't responsible for killing Prim, too Katniss it does not matter. Katniss was disgusted with the creation of the bombs as well as his attitude over the nut. Personally I would've been done with Gayle also. Now Snow the only argument anyone could make is to turn Katniss against Coin, but Snow is not stupid and he has too know Katniss already dislikes Coin. I mean she was the boss and with Snow being familiar with hijacking, Peeta's attack on Katniss on air was a win for him regardless-1- Katniss potentially loses someone she loves -2- Katniss wouldn't trust rebel command (she already didn't) but Snow would get confirmation by Katniss not returning Peeta to command only trusting herself with his life Katniss " I want the key" to his cuffs. Coin she is responsible. Katniss knows it, Peeta being sent out to kill her, Coin threatening her after the mockingjay deal was announced. Coin tried to control Katniss, with zero luck. Coin probably didn't know Katniss knew about 13 having those bombs. Coin killing Prim then making the victors decide the fate of the games even stating that the individual votes would be hidden for their safety is a threat so this last ditch effort to neutralize Katniss'' negative influence over Coins future actions is the only answer. ___ Tigress had it right no one knows what to do with you girly__
I think it was Coin due to how twisted she was and only cared about power infact Snow said she is going to take my place we've both been played for fools.
Even though Gale didn't actually drop the bomb, the fact that it was meant to kill innocent lives only seemed to matter to him when Prim was killed. If she didn't die, he wouldn't have felt guilty about all those lives.
i thought in the book it was very heavily implied that district 13 was to blame? when katniss and gale were talking at the end, gale admitted that he didn't know if it was his bomb, which implies that he was working with coin to make the bombs to kill capitol children.
I know that you had to be over 13 to go out on dangerous missions and prim was 13 so she wasnt suppose to go out and coin wouldn't would have stopped but she didnt
I think there`s a chance that Gale designed the bomb, but Coin was the one in command and the one who decides what to do. I think she gave the order to release the bombs and kill Prim, because she knew Prim would be there. But I want to point something: in the movie, Gale seems very affected with what happened to Prim, like he really cared for her and was having trouble dealing with the idea that his bomb/idea may have killed Prim. But in the book, Gale seemed somewhat indifferent, like he didn't really cared that Prim died and that his bomb may have killed her. He's only worry was if Katniss was mad with him.
8:06 it’s been a few years since I watched the movies, but I don’t think I ever noticed Haymitch’s reaction. The look of horror on his face right there…
I think it was Coin. A lot of people think it was Gale but I don’t think Gale would have wanted to hurt children. I also think Coin was trying to make it look like it was snow so everyone would side with her and go against Snow. That’s what I think.
I agree with everything except the conclusions regarding Prim at the end. 1) I don't agree that Prim didn't have the requisite training to be a full doctor. While she was indeed super young, she was incredibly gifted and more or less a medical prodigy, as is made pretty clear throughout the movies in various examples. It is perfectly plausible that she was among the very best medical personnel available, her age notwithstanding. 2) It seems highly unlikely that Coin, or anyone else, would believe that Prim dying would do anything other than enrage Katniss and ensure that Katniss and make Katniss more of a threat than ever. Why would anyone expect a hardened warrior like Katniss, who has survived two Hunger Games and fought through an uprising, would have her spirit broken by losing her sister and all of a sudden decide not to fight?
I agree it's coin. Kill two birds with one stone (Snow and Katniss) plus a fast victory. New medics can be trained. Thus they can recoup the loss of the medics she sent to the front lines. Katniss even puzzles it out that Prim was too young to be in combat without permission from someone very high up.
I think coin is definitely to blame even after this whole thing was nearly over she still wanted another hunger games and always had it in for her. She killed her LITTLE SISTER! She killed adults and children( the medics) who were only trying to help people. Prim should still be alive 😥😥😥 Katniss looked against the 2nd bomb idea from the first second it was mentioned and gale didnt seem to care that innocent people were dying, he had a dark soul but I dont think he wanted to kill prim at all
ITS COIN! I agree lol, my Friends don’t like gale because They think he killed prim, which is so not true although I’m definitely team Peeta but gale just helped beetee and coin to make a bomb that killed Primrose. Like, yes he was getting aggressive in the Mockingjay but it’s not really his fault!?
Coin has the greater guilt, since I believe she's the one who ordered the bombing to take place, in order to secure power. But Gale came up with the bombing tactic. He put the weapon into Coin's hand. While his guilt is less than her's, he is partly responsibly for Prim's death. He should thank whatever god he believes in that Katniss didn't put an arrow between his eyes.
I blame Coin but when I told my mom she said “ when someone dies of a gunshot, do you blame the person who made the gun, the person who fired the gun, or the gun itself”. So I have been trying to figure it out so there is real no answer.
I blame both coin and gale. Coin may have dropped the bombs but gale designed them. If he had not designed them then coin would not have had them I the first place.
i think that its the dude that was helping gale make the bombs because when gale was speaking his plan he is always there to finish the sentence plus he was also helping coin in the middle of the movie so i think coin was giving him a advantage if he were to be on her side by eliminating katnis even if coin wasnt president with him she would still have major power
Story Diver it only makes since because in the conversation everything that happened he was around katnis and gale as they explained everything that would happen
Story Diver i think coin would have had to have an insider to make it all possible because he got close to gale who was close to him she wouldnt have been able to get the double shot bomb without help from him or gale
So I haven't read Mockingjay in a while, but I remember Katniss thinking "Who let a 14 year old to the front of the lines?" when she saw Prim before her death.
I agree with the Carlin Brothers, Coin rigged the 74th reaping. Prim's name was the only one in the bowl, because she knew that Katniss would volunteer in her place.
I think Gale came up with the bomb, maybe even came up with the scenario it was used in- it’s very much in line with the other plans he came up with aside from the killing Prim aspect. Coin however is obviously the one who put that plan into motion and orchestrated Prim’s death. Honestly it might have been a way to break both Katniss and Gale. Could you imagine how he must have felt realizing that in his thirst for the capitol’s blood he created the weapon and the plan that killed his best friend/love’s sister and lost all of Katniss’s regard? It’s not shown at all in Katniss’s pov but I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the incident that snapped him out of it and made him realize he had to make amends. After all there must be a reason he ended up moving to district 2, the other place where he made plans to bomb an area filled with living people n
Gale most likely knew about these bombings would happen but perhaps did not know Prim was there. Even if he did, he didn’t expect Prim to be killed as well.
This is why I get so annoyed when people say Gale did it. HE WAS WITH KATNISS. There was no way he could stop it. He did make the bomb but that was for the enemies. Also no one has a problem with Beetee and he made the bomb too
I believe Gale is definitely partly to blame simply because of his intention. If Prim had died, say, after Gale's bomb had killed some Peacekeepers who were a threat to the rebels, then he wouldn't be to blame in my eyes because his intent was somewhat good. However, his bomb was designed to target the compassionate, and Prim happened to be there. Just because his intent was wretched and simply cruel, he's at least partly to blame for the innocent that paid for it.
I think it's MOSTLY Coin's fault. Gale didn't know it was for Prim. But if I were Katniss, I would also end my friendship with Gale. Mostly because he didn't even care Prim died.
Am I the only one that thought the medics, including Prim, were wearing suicide vests without knowing? Because all parachute packages seemed to have exploded and I didn't see or hear any more drop...
Here’s my opinion gale is partly to blame because he did make the bomb in order of president coin but coin did place prim there and did order for the bomb
I didn't even know this was a discussion, the only way Gale was blamed was in the own movie, but for "not being able to protect her" no for being responsible of her death, and honestly, as much as president Snow is awful, strategically it made no sense for him to do that. (Thought it could have someone else taking the decision for him, since he is also somewhat of a public face who is ocasionally controlled by others, just like it happened with Plutarch convincing him to kill Katniss in the hunger games instead of in an accident. And if that was the case that someone must be another rebel infiltrated or just someone that saw there was no way to stop the rebels and wanted to take part in the supposed free election that would come afterwards)
gale thought of prim as his sister (in the very first book he promised katniss that he would make sure her and her mom survived) i think it was coin because she only cared about power and status.
I always suspected Coin mainly because I thought that it could've been a way for her to push Katniss to her side since at the end of the day most people would look to the Mockingjay that rallied everyone rather than this sudden figure claiming to be the true mastermind after bidding for so long, with her being distraught she could've then been comforted by Coin since she's lost family too therefore reducing the likelihood of Katniss turning against her and slowly take control as a result. Or even lower her (Katniss) guard long enough that she could just kill her more discreetly under the guise of suicide due to grief. As for how Prim could've gotten there Coin might say that Prim made the request herself out of worry for her sister and they possibly lost track of her afterwards. If Katniss hadn't had that conversation with Snow then she'd most likely execute him as planned out of vengeance then slip quietly away to mourn for Prim too upset to even work out if it really was Snow that did it.
Hi, I really like your video but I wanted to just add my version of what I think happened. As Katniss realized in the book, Prim was much too young to be on the front lines of the war as a 13 year old child. After the war, 13 would have many people left from the districts to expand the gene pool so I don't think that would have been a problem either, not to mention the fact that many people from the districts would try to migrate to 13 because their own district brought back too many painful memories. But why would Snow bomb his own children? He gains nothing and loses everything. In the book, Katniss realizes that the bombs used were the exact same ones designed by Beetee and Gale. So what I think happened was this: Coin issued the go-ahead to drop bombs onto the pen of Capitol children in a Capiol hovercraft to make it look like the Capitol/Snow was bombing their own children hence turning the rest of the Capitol supporters against Snow. Because this would benefit no one but the rebels, Snow is less likely to have done it. I think that Coin made sure that Prim was there on the front lines so that when the bombs dropped it would kill her without a doubt. I think she did this because she knew it would guarantee Katniss's vote for the Capitol Hunger Games. So basically, I believe it was Presidant Coin that used the bombs made by Beetee and Gale to turn the last remaining tides of the war and guarantee Katniss's vote for the last "symbolic" Hunger Games.

Gale killed prim
i agree ( i always hated gale so i kind of want to blame him for something)
Joanna is to blame. Partially Coin, but mostly Joanna.
"The whole country loves your sister, if they tortured her or did anything to her, forget the districts, there would be riots in the damn capital." -Joanna
Then, when Joanna has been rescued and is now a part of 13, now conveniently Prim is there when Coin does the double explosion attack... After which there are riots in the capitol...
It is my strong assumption that Joanna brought this concept up to Coin and they made sure she would be sent in as a medic there.
I blame president coin. She is a very cold hearted person.
I vote for Coin, she only wanted political power, and she was no better than Snow. I didn’t see the movies, only read the books, and I rememner from that that I felt very suspicious towards Coin. The fact that Katniss even kills her later only affirms that.
Coin was a very interesting character, and I agree with you that she seems the most likely!
You Should Watch All The Movies!
Yesss I watched all 4 of them UwU
Gerrit Keuter 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The movies are really good, especially the first one
I Know for a FACT that Coin took Prims Life! All Coin cared about was the Power she wanted.
Very true!
True , and gale cared for prim as if it was his own sister
Bella me to very true!!!!
@Jack Parker Well, with all due respect Jack, it wasn't presented as "fact". It is a theory video.
Bella yup
I thought it was obvious that it was Coin, but I do want to bring your attention to something. In the movie, Gale was clearly distraught about what had happened, that Coin had used his idea for this atrocity. However, in the book, he seemed pretty indifferent towards it, like it didn't matter either way. To him, the ends justified the means.
Very true!
Yes! In the books, Gale didn’t care about Prim‘s death, all he cared about was that Katniss was all mad at him.
In the book Katniss even says that Coin is no diffrent than Snow. All she cares about is herself and all she wants is power.
Somehow, she was even worse.
Coin definitely did it.
I completely agree!
barbieholic defenily
100%
Remember Gale tho... he was part of the revolution and was the best bomb specialist in the country (^~^) I feel like it was Coin because she had say in every little thing and controlled everything too(^~^)
I feel like coin could’ve still won had she not overstepped and chose to kill Katniss’ sister(^~^)
Snow wouldn’t have bombed the children because he was using them as a human shield.
Very true! That rules him out
You are so right I totally forrgot about that.
what do you mean? shield against what?
@@holliebrooke7327 He was using them to shield his mansion, so that the rebels would not be able to advance without hurting them. At least that's how I understood it.
Gracie | omg i never thought about that, thank you for answering! even if you’re not the person who wrote the original comment :)
Another detail regarding how Prim ended up at the front lines, there was another untrained civilian who was sent into the Capitol during the siege: Peeta. And whose direct orders sent him there? Exactly.
Peeta did have training, he's seen to be training multiple times in the book
Ye
I think there’s one main flaw in your analysis: you forgot the fact that when (presumably) Coin sent Prim to be killed by the bomb, District 13 believed she had died and already began using her death for propaganda.
Coin and the Capitol knew Katniss was still alive, they had only found two bodies in the apartment, neither of which was Katniss
Wow... the deep thoughts... I wish I had someone to go back and forth with.
All my friends blamed gale, but, I KNEW IT WAS COIN DA-M IT
Same bro
Yeee
He thought it would be used for something else if he wanted her dead he would not have saved her from distract 12he could not have gotten coin to one send prim out or make the bombs explode

@@mollyelizabeth2009 why do you hate gale???
It was coin! Gale would never ever purposefully hurt prim and only coin could have gotten prim out there! Good point
I agree.
@@niamhcawley7862 weren’t they designed for the Nut?
Prim was too young to be a first responder. And even if that rule was broken there was no reason to put her on the front lines. Only Coin would have put her there. I think it was an attempt to kill Katniss, she knew Katniss would run at her when she saw her there. Remember how badly burnt she got in the book.
@@fitnesswithsaswatsahoo2116 yeah to add onto this I’m pretty sure in the book Katniss did try to run to prim before she got exploded back.
@@sindelscat9336 Very true. I don't think Coin would have cared what weapons she used, just the end result. Heck, Gale's saying "I don't know" could indicate that he isn't sure if they went with HIS MODEL or if they used a similar one created by another rebel, like Beetee.
@@DigiDestined13 I know however I don't really care about The hunger games anymore since it is a cliche
I agree with your breakdown. I think even if Prim hadn't been killed, the fact that Katniss knew he could design weapons like that might have crossed a line for her.
Very true! She was already pulling away from Gale after his decision as to how to deal with the Nut in District 2
That damn Coin smh. Thank you for this video!
It all comes back to Coin. I'm happy you enjoyed it!
I'm really late, who knows if anyone will read this, but here are my two cents : It was Coin who dropped the bombs, (to be honest I alwas thought it was quite obvious and I'm surprised it was even a discussion) and there are 2 options :
1) Maybe she didn't intend on releasing her own medics here and there, we don't know, mistakes can happen, it's a war after all.
2) She did it on purpose, which seems more likely, as we know she saw Katniss as a threat to her rising to power, and she knew that killing Prim would break her. The scene with Boggs is a clue for me, since I believe Suzanne Collins never writes a scene that has no purpose to the story. As Katniss said, Coin knew that Katniss would be likely to see it no matter where she was, as it was probably televised
When it comes to Gale, he helped create the bomb, therefore is a fault, but not directly, he never knew it was going to be used on Prim.
Coin wanting power could have threatened them to hurt someone they love if they didn’t help her win the war
olivia8oof Yes exactly
@@olivia8oof That's true, I admit I didn't think about that when writing the above comment.

Just gonna say that how in the beginning you said that Snow was lying when he said he wasn't wasteful of children, I just want to point out that to Snow the hunger games have a reason (to remind future generations about the dark days and to show that even the strongest of people cannot overcome the power of the capitol) even if it doesn't have any reason to us
Very true!
Plus the Games became much more humane thanks to him. I just got to the chapter in the Ballad where the tributes appear. That's just living hell.
Very true!

Sameeee
i literally cried at the scene were the kids died, it was such a heartless scene!
Gale and Betee would not have designed the bomb if they knew that Colin would have used it for nefarious purposes
It's not her fault really, Prim probably wanted to prove she could do great things like Kattniss and had an order from Coin which she couldn't refuse
You probably shipped gale and katniss
Donna K never shipped Gale and Katniss. Like ever.
Gale created it to kill enemies like the guards but coin used it to kill People... So its like i created somthing to helo People but there is allways som1 who use it againts People...
Exactly the point I made 😃
@@StoryDiver I have to disagree. Next time the other one would start even earlier or cheat in a different way.(pushing, drugs)
Gale justifies his wicked plans with "the enemies does it as well, we are at war and this is how you win it" is not okay at all.
The new book is definitely not a rumour 😉It's coming out in May this year

even if Gale did have command he would have to know where he and katniss would be and when so that they don't die. And since he knew where everyone would be that means he would know Prim would have come and Gale loves Prim.
It was coin. She wanted snow to look bad.

That was definitely a huge detail that should have been left in
i'm currently bingewatching your hunger game analysis videos.. they're very interesting 💜
I’m sooo glad I found your channel, you expand on the Hungers Games and it’s so interesting to listen!!
Gale and Coin did it, Gale made the bomb so he helped. Coin told Prim to go there so she did most of it.
I just got into The Hunger Games series this year, and I love your videos about it! Super fun to imagine different theories. I know I’m a year late to this video, but as soon as I learned prim died I immediately came here. I agree it was President Coin!
Thank you!
@@StoryDiver I told my sister about how Prim died and she was shocked to say the least
Thank you, answered all the questions I wanted to know
Thank you for makimg this!
___ Tigress had it right no one knows what to do with you girly__
nice thanks for explaining prims death i was extremly confused in the movie when katniss told gail to leave after the scene of prims death.
I think it was Coin due to how twisted she was and only cared about power infact Snow said she is going to take my place we've both been played for fools.
Exactly!
Story Diver Thanks!
Even though Gale didn't actually drop the bomb, the fact that it was meant to kill innocent lives only seemed to matter to him when Prim was killed. If she didn't die, he wouldn't have felt guilty about all those lives.
Katniss only cared because prim was killed. What’s your point?
i thought in the book it was very heavily implied that district 13 was to blame? when katniss and gale were talking at the end, gale admitted that he didn't know if it was his bomb, which implies that he was working with coin to make the bombs to kill capitol children.
whoops i meant coin not 13
I know that you had to be over 13 to go out on dangerous missions and prim was 13 so she wasnt suppose to go out and coin wouldn't would have stopped but she didnt
I think it was Coin's fault as she was just hungry for power and she didn't care about the outcome of what she did.
That makes sense!
I find it so sad that coin was willing to kill katniss just because she was afraid of her being a threat to her power
Was it not one of gale plan in the book they say “let set one bombing and set a second stronger one
Gale created the bombs, but as I said, he wasn't able to give the order to use them at that moment, because he was in the Capitol
I think it was Coin's idea to do it, but Gale should've known better than to help her make those bombs and use that tactic
That makes sense!
The look of horror on his face right there…
Gale designed the bomb but he did not know coin would use it to attack them so I blame coin
That makes sense!
Yesh UwU
And Beetee helped make them too.
I think it was Coin. A lot of people think it was Gale but I don’t think Gale would have wanted to hurt children. I also think Coin was trying to make it look like it was snow so everyone would side with her and go against Snow. That’s what I think.
Stephanie Kempert I agree even if Gale hated the capital he wouldn’t kill the children.
Why would anyone expect a hardened warrior like Katniss, who has survived two Hunger Games and fought through an uprising, would have her spirit broken by losing her sister and all of a sudden decide not to fight?
ur hair looks so good in this video!!!! i love it
Thank you so much 😀
Great breakdown. I completely agree 100 percent!
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it!
Prim should still be alive 😥😥😥 Katniss looked against the 2nd bomb idea from the first second it was mentioned and gale didnt seem to care that innocent people were dying, he had a dark soul but I dont think he wanted to kill prim at all
Very true!
I agree with you! I don’t like Gale for his views on life and war, but he can’t be blamed for an act he didn’t do
Coin has the greater guilt, since I believe she's the one who ordered the bombing to take place, in order to secure power.
Beetee could definitely have been involved, you’re right
Story Diver it only makes since because in the conversation everything that happened he was around katnis and gale as they explained everything that would happen
It’s definitely possible :)
Story Diver alot of people didnt think about him being the one but i honestly think so
Story Diver i think coin would have had to have an insider to make it all possible because he got close to gale who was close to him she wouldnt have been able to get the double shot bomb without help from him or gale
So I haven't read Mockingjay in a while, but I remember Katniss thinking "Who let a 14 year old to the front of the lines?" when she saw Prim before her death.
Would love to see a video breaking down and explaining the way sponsors worked in the hunger games. Can’t seem to find a turning in that topic
I didn't realize this was a point of contention. The book spells out that your conclusion is the same one Katniss reaches, and why she kills Coin.
Thank you, this really explained so much.
I haven't read Hunger Games in a while, so I was like "Wait, Prim didn't die. There's no way."
After all there must be a reason he ended up moving to district 2, the other place where he made plans to bomb an area filled with living people n
thank you for explaining all of this!
Glad you liked it!
Also no one has a problem with Beetee and he made the bomb too
Very nice video! Thanks 🙏🏼
My heart broke when Prim died
I believe Gale is definitely partly to blame simply because of his intention. If Prim had died, say, after Gale's bomb had killed some Peacekeepers who were a threat to the rebels, then he wouldn't be to blame in my eyes because his intent was somewhat good. However, his bomb was designed to target the compassionate, and Prim happened to be there. Just because his intent was wretched and simply cruel, he's at least partly to blame for the innocent that paid for it.
8:58 : they probably needed as much help as they could get. Also I think it might be Coin
But I’m sure we all cried during the buttercup scene with Katniss
I think it's MOSTLY Coin's fault. Gale didn't know it was for Prim. But if I were Katniss, I would also end my friendship with Gale. Mostly because he didn't even care Prim died.
Coin is more of a monster than Snow.
I’d say she’s more like a different kind of monster
Am I the only one that thought the medics, including Prim, were wearing suicide vests without knowing? Because all parachute packages seemed to have exploded and I didn't see or hear any more drop...
That's because they were the double ignition bombs Gale and Beetee had been working on
@@StoryDiver Oh? Is that stated in the books instead of the films?
I love these videos do much I’m obsessed with the hunger games and definitely think coin did it
even if coin is more likley at fault, me and my friends will never not laugh at calling gale “the prim reaper”
Here’s my opinion gale is partly to blame because he did make the bomb in order of president coin but coin did place prim there and did order for the bomb
Gale suggested the ruthless idea against the capitol, Coin puts it into action, they are both equally guilty
Little did Coin know, Katniss would just kill her. Meaning that she know or at least believed that Coin was at fault
Exactly!
@@StoryDiver I always tell ppl that Gail might have made the bomb, but he couldn't have set it off bcuz he was in the capital it had to be Coin
You can tell by Katniss reaction how much Primrose death effects her
I’m obsessed with the hunger games it is my favorite book series after the Twilight saga
8:39 she wanted to damage Katniss beyond repair
My mind is set on President Alma Coin!
Oh it was definitely Coin
