MUCH easier to use any 3 pin voltage regulator , and use the center pin as the output . It then becomes a current regulator, regardless of the load or the supply. Thats what I use to use as a battery charger.
its possible to replace the zener with a resistor divider? i dont see why make the circuit more expensive for a real aplication and the potentiometer can change the current output
