-From Indonesia-, i must admit this is the best game i ever played. I'd been feed with Wu Kong tales when i was young, watch the 1986 Xiao Lin Tong version movie, watch the 1996 Dicky Cheung version, when 1st trailer announced in 2020, Covid came. Tought the game will be cancelled due to pandemic, and yet here we are all survivors finally can experience this tale thru the game. My grandpa once said that there's many version of Wu Kong story just like the old monkey told in the game. Thanks for Game Science team for bringing and share this legendary Chinese tale to all of the world. Really hope you guys win the award for your hard work, kudos for all of you
Actually, only utill recently did I know that people in Indonesia, Vietnam, etc., also watched the 1986 TV series Journey to the West. It's really wonderful to know there are other people who also enjoy this masterpiece, and can have the same feelings when hearing the adapted music from the series in the game.
i have a feeling that this is not yet finished.. my own speculation is that the intro monkey is not sun wukong but the revived six-eared macaque 1:48 (sun wukong carried his dead body) and 2:04, sanzang chanting on both of them.. i think sun wukong did ascend.. and he left his last attachment towards the realm of the living which was his "chang sheng bu lao" body, 7 layer OP immortal body, in which, he also left behind all of his 6 senses which then manifested into being once again (six-eared macaque).. six-eared macaque is actually wukong's six senses manifest into being.. that means.. we will surely have a fight with nezha and lijing in the upcoming DLC, and also a fight against the "victorious fighting Buddha" himself, AKA the real Sun Wukong.. the premise is the same with the original, the destined one becoming too strong and wreck the heavenly court into disrepair, and this time, Buddha Wukong would be the one who intervenes.. my speculation is based on the thought that i really want this game to become a true masterpiece and not degrading the original lore and buddhism.. i mean, the more popular speculation is that erlang shen plotting rebellion with wukong and nezha.. but nezha is the patron deity of filial piety.. and this game has been hailed as a great representation of chinese culture.. so i don't think that nezha will rebel, coz filial piety is the core of chinese culture.. this game is not yet finished guys.. i thought it hard and thorough on how would this game finishes in a masterful manner, and how can this game become a true introduction into the black myth upcoming games as in "rolling the red carpet".. this is what i came up with.. just imagine the hype, the victorious fighting buddha, the real sun wukong as the last boss.. fighting lijing and nezha.. meaning that the destined one is somewhat an antagonist?
What a love letter to not only fans of Journey to the West, but the fans of the original TV series from China. I'm so proud of the team at Game Science, you guys achieved everything that you set out to accomplish.
They really have, and not only that! They've also truly pushed forward the West's Overall View on Chinese Culture, Religion & Mythology! And given how SHOCKINGLY well this game has sold, I can only hope for the Amount of Great Influence & Impact this Game will have on Popular Culture (in a similar vein to the 1592 Xiyouji Novel & the People who read or were inspired by it, such as the Wan Brothers & Osamu Tezuka) in the Future, especially for the West!
I had to replay this video dozens of times because it was moving so fast with so many frames thrown in, and I didn't want to miss all the intricate details. I don't think ever been this in love with an animation (and I've watched many in my day). There is just something about the style, the voiceovers, the emotion, and the music that plays that makes this short film so powerful. You really get a feel of Wukong's character and backstory. Every scenic moment is timed so well with the bg music, which does the narrating since spoken dialogue is absent. I love how they opened the scene with the confrontation between Erlang and Wukong, with no music playing, but just the sounds of the celestial winds and fabric blowing, and Wukong's powerful last words after having a spear ripped off his chest with his blood gushing everywhere. Then it transitions to his backstory and all the memorable moments in his timeline. From the start of his journey, to him facing demons, flinging the paintbrush, stop moments battling the Celestial guards, to him finally wearing the cape of a King. There is so much indescribable love I have for this animated masterpiece. The developers did a magnificent job bringing Wukong's character and the JTTW story to life. I will cherish this game and my moments with it forever.

Please, add the red cape, and tiger cloth you see around Wukong's waist while he's wearing the Gold Suozi Armor as seen in this animation. Everyone probably wouldn't want that though so at least probably make it an option to toggle the red cape and tiger cloth on and off. It looks really cool and I would love to see it ingame. In these cutscenes, there is a Chinese artist named Huang Chengxi. Maybe you don't know him, he was the artist of Naruto before, and the Nezha in these cutscenes was drawn by him, so Chinese netizens think that Nezha's expression is a bit similar to Uchiha Madara's, hahaha
4:07 made me feel sad knowing he imagine his friends are alive with him enjoying the feast and drink before he go to fight alone to finally die and maybe reunite with them and breaks free from the seal same time
No, this animation plays backward events in the Journey To The West. We start with Wukong entering the cave and getting the weapon and armor. Then he makes friends with some yaoguais. Then they fight with Celestial Palace Officers. And so on.
And it seems that these brothers are not dead. Except for Bull Demon King and Six-eared Macaque, the stories of the other four are very few and confusing.
I just realised the animation after the true ending is because the destined one finally achieved taking up wukong's mantle and got back all his memory.
As much as i loved the original 86 tv show growing up, it is quite dated going back to watch it now but hopefully with the huge success of black myth maybe theres an incentive for a full animated series
The events of Wukong's life are played in reverse because he's unlearning the Journey to The West, and going right back to crashing the Celestial Palace one more time.
Wukong could not be a part of the oppressive system. This attitude caused his death. That’s why in animation of chapter five, he said: For someone like him staying alive is enough to be a transgression. Since his death is inevitable, he will exchange his death for a chance to free his will from the golden hoop, so it is a bad ending for the destined one to wear the golden hoop in the end.
As you guys seeing it, that head band restrained his broken shell even in death, golden hoop is an nasty object used by Buddha to control Wukong.Erlang fought Wukong was just to test whether the golden hoop was really lifted, but it turned out that the golden hoop was still there.
The last scene is the begining of the original "The Journey To The West" story. This whole animation is actually a flashback of Sun Wukong's life narrated from the end. The beginning is the end, the end is the beginning.
I'm putting my game designer hat on and am going to guess the "normal" ending with the old monkey putting the headband on Wukong was added last only to serve as the "ending" to a game that they kind of have to release in order to gauge its success. As you know a game in development is a money blackhole and everyone is tense from execs to devs as to whether they're going to make any of these money back, so I get at some point even if unfinished they want to just say fuck it release what we have if it's a hit we'll have the funds to finish up. Typical business practice nowadays for every studio when the cost is raising to this new level. Back to my point, so the original ending for this chapter ought to be the old monkey simply holding onto the dropped circlet as he approach the player (whether he was going to put it on is irrelevant, since he doesn't' have pocket he's got nowhere to stow it), then Wukong awakens as foretold now with all his memories infused into the Destined One recounting everything that happened from start of the game, to Journey to the West, to his loss to Buddha, to Havoc in Heaven, to his brethren in Flower Fruit Mountain, then it switch to the current cave being empty and everyone dead, as Wukong turns and heading off to Chapter 7 instead of the credit and end theme. I say this because with them saying they cut 6 chapters from the game, but with its current state the game still makes sense with each chapter being Destined One recovering a piece of WuKong (along with hidden treasures that help with the 6 chapter boss fights) so the DLC chapter isn't going to be placed within this part of the adventure where Destined One go off track to do something that has nothing to do with the relics, or get something else that'll help with Chapter 1-6 boss fight. So they HAVE to be sequel chapters starting at 7 after he recovers his memory and is fully revived. It's just whether he'll go straight to heaven in chapter 7? I don't think they can milk that for 6 chapters. So I think from 7 8 9 he'll still have to take care of whatever business Game Science has in store for Wukong on earth, here they have to explain what exactly happened to his Victorious Fighting Buddha title and why is he ostensibly going to kill people again, and for those who said Wukong barely have any voice lines well you're about to get them past this point now that he's back. And another havoc in heaven is inevitable because the prologue Wukong already stated he can let it go that they want to control him, etc, but he can't let it go that they murdered his monkey brethren so either Buddha have to come and settle this again, or he's going to go settle it himself (in a very non-buddhist manner).
And I saw some Koreans had the odacity to say this 1986 theme song somehow stole their 2010s kpop ... Now I know where the kpop melodies come from , the original journey to the west TV drama music is definitely not their only "inspiration".
Hi Game Science, Just a suggestion: Are you able to allow players to change the cycle level flexibility just to enjoy the game better? Imagine if someone reached NG+10 but there's a new DLC story that needs to be completed and people end-up stuck because it hits harder. It becomes pointless if players have to repeat new cycle just to get the stories done. Anyway, it already an achievement for players to reach NG+10 with their own efforts.
You think fans of the book and the original 1986 series were the only ones captivated by both the original story and the game? Well, I’d hate to disappoint but, think again! You do realize that we’re already half way through finishing both the book and the series after finishing the game multiple times! We only missed out on the Nostalgia part when the music kicked in at the end! NOTHING ELSE
The last scene when he finish drink the wine and take out his magic stick from his ear is not wukong anymore but it's the destined one who carry out wukong's will, and he prepare to start the war again .
This game has given me such an appreciation for Chinese culture and mythology that I'm actually planning on buying some copies of Journey To The West so i can delve deeper into this amazing series! Does anyone have any recommendations for a good english translation of the original works?
Freaking GOTY!!! If this doesn't win GOTY then I'm afraid TGA and this award would cease to exist for me. 4:07 really shatters my heart....he's going alone to take them all at once.
For some reason, I feel like we're gonna have to fight Buddha or a "Fake Buddha" in the DLC. It just seems like he's lurking in the shadow like in 1:26, 1:30 they're being watched, 1:38 there are eyes everywhere. Wukong's headband was also created by Buddha. If Buddha in this game is the one who prolonged the cycle of suffering, then "Wukong" may have to fight him to become truly enlightened
Please Game Science we need an animated series. This art style is top notch. Masterpiece.
It would probably cost them all the money they earn from Wukong if this is the quality they're aiming for throughout the series 😂

Wonderful animation! this one is essentially flashback of the quest for scriptures. I like the artistic expression used in this animation. Looling forward to DLC of Black myth🎉
the animation quality in this omg I AM SO PROUD OF GAME SCIENCE
Thank you for all of this, Game Science!
My childhood, i love this game so much❤
I got this ending a couple of days ago, I loved it, it was very epic. ☺
Congratulations on the success, you deserve it 👏👏👏
Having a number of best Chinese animators the anime industry have seen the recent years working on the whole Wukong's animated scenes is definitely a great blessings to the fans who appreciated their past works.
Black Myth is definitely the most excellent Journey to The West's spin-off 👍🏼
PLEASE I WANT SHA WUJING , LIL WHITE DRAGON, AND MONK TANK , ALL OF THEM REUNITED WITH THE DESTINED ONE & ZHU BAJIE
😭😭😭
Nezha!
i have a feeling that the 3 chapters in the first DLC would be wukong saving them 3, second DLC would be war in celestial palace.

Fantastic game! I hope they continue making content for this game. The gods that we didnt even get to meet yet would be awesome to see.
If any of Game Science team saw this, try to submit these animations to the Oscar, and see how far we can go

So Beautiful, i love every scene of it!!!!😊
My favorite game! I cry every time when hearing the 云宫迅音 bgm.
This is such an amazing game.
No, not the tiger skin
This game fellates Wukong so much especially towards the end, but by God that's exactly why I'm here.
This game is amazing 🤩 I hope I can buy it as soon as possible, the soundtrack, artwork, overall gameplay is great 👍 🎉congratulations on making a masterpiece right here hopefully to win 🏅 for game of the year

If Game Science makes another Wukong game that's about Journey to the West, I'd throw a fuckton of money their way.

Hands down the last scene!
I love the credit music so much...
And so on.
I feel like the last scene is still a memory, and then it connects to the Erlang battle plot at the beginning
And it seems that these brothers are not dead. Except for Bull Demon King and Six-eared Macaque, the stories of the other four are very few and confusing.
Precisely this.....I was so emotional when he was walking straight to take them all down all alone....this final part hit like a train man.

Years of works from game science paid off! Congratulation on your success
Thank you for making all chinese fans dreams come true ❤
I just realised the animation after the true ending is because the destined one finally achieved taking up wukong's mantle and got back all his memory.
As much as i loved the original 86 tv show growing up, it is quite dated going back to watch it now but hopefully with the huge success of black myth maybe theres an incentive for a full animated series
The events of Wukong's life are played in reverse because he's unlearning the Journey to The West, and going right back to crashing the Celestial Palace one more time.
呢度應該係天命人(悟空轉世)攞翻自己前世回憶先啱嘛
This should be Destined One(Wukong reincarnation) getting the memories of his previous life, would be more correct
Masterpiece Damn
THE GAME OF THE YEAR 💯💯🔥🔥🗿
these alone deserve game of the year
I'm putting my game designer hat on and am going to guess the "normal" ending with the old monkey putting the headband on Wukong was added last only to serve as the "ending" to a game that they kind of have to release in order to gauge its success.
Hands down Game of the century

The best of the year
Hi Game Science,
Just a suggestion:
Are you able to allow players to change the cycle level flexibility just to enjoy the game better?
Imagine if someone reached NG+10 but there's a new DLC story that needs to be completed and people end-up stuck because it hits harder.
It becomes pointless if players have to repeat new cycle just to get the stories done.
Anyway, it already an achievement for players to reach NG+10 with their own efforts.
I NEED A MOVIE BLACK MYTH WUKONG SOON OMLLLL

You think fans of the book and the original 1986 series were the only ones captivated by both the original story and the game? Well, I’d hate to disappoint but, think again! You do realize that we’re already half way through finishing both the book and the series after finishing the game multiple times! We only missed out on the Nostalgia part when the music kicked in at the end! NOTHING ELSE
