Bruce Springsteen on Elvis: "There have been a lot of tough guys. There have been pretenders. And there have been contenders. But there is only one King...Elvis Presley is all there is. There just ain't no more. Everything starts and ends with Elvis. He wrote the book."
Chuck grew up near me, in Norfolk Virginia. Chuck was a great musician, but came out after El is. When Chuck was ask about Elvis, he said "Elvis was the best, the most and greatest there will ever be". Elvis and Little Richard went into his show in Vegas Chuck didn't know it, and Elvis kept screaming out requests and it was coming from the edge of the stage, he saw that it was Elvis and nearly had a heart attack. Elvis and he were great friends . Elvis acknowledged Chucks talent many times. I still wish you would react to " Elvis Presley and the Black Community". That's where Elvis came from. Thanks.
Great reaction. I love Chuck Berry's writing also. The man could definitely come up with great tunes and lyrics. Elvis is my all time favorite for all types of music. He was a phenomenon and still is.❤❤❤
Elvis didn’t claim the title of king of tick and roll. He said Fats Domino was the king. If you listen to a lot of Elvis, you can hear that he has the ability to sing any style, adapting the vocals to his interpretation of the song. Elvis made anything he covered his own.
A great version by Elvis who could when really interested adapt himself to any style of music by the nuances of his vocal intonations, and in this performance he clipped his delivery. What is also forgotten is that Elvis really turned the world outside of the US onto Rock n' Roll before Chuck a great talent even made an impact some 15 months later.
Guess everybody “steals” from everyone LOL .. or rather isn’t it called being “ influenced” . There’s no one really who isn’t influenced by their predecessor or contemporary.
The very much under rated James Burton was the lead guitarist and if you still think Chuck Berry played johnny b. good better, then watch the 1977 version where James plays the entire song- including the lead break with the guitar behind his head....now thats talent.
I was listening to Tom Jones who once stated in an interview that he and Elvis between 70 and 71 were both on their way to watch Chuck Berry perform in Vegas. While sitting and watching Chuck Elvis turned to Tom and said ''you know who's up on that stage Tom?'' That's the true king of rock n roll!!
Can just imagine Elvis moving to this one, I bet it would have been frenetic lol. There was a clip I've never seen in this montage, where Elvis was on one leg, bent over backwards and laid down! Wtf, was he made of rubber?
Your information on Johnnie Johnson is spot on, also Chuck played in odd guitar keys which were more associated with piano further backing up your point. A lot of Elvis`s live performances are quicker than the originals, the exception would be tracks using orchestral backing as these would be charted with time signatures. Elvis didn`t like the tag of The King and often said that God was the only King. The fact that Jerry Lee and Chuck had a fight over it, say`s it all.
Just found this -- no idea why i didn't see it on my sub list. I have to agree w-you about the Chuck version -- CB was amazing. Btw, basing it on Elvis' voice that was from '69 Vegas.
Maybe Elvis couldn't play riffs like Chuck but he didn't have to because he had James Burton and Chuck didn't have the voice Elvis had either. But I'll give credit where credit is due Chuck Berry was a great talent. Enjoy your reactions.
The Black Hillbilly as he used to be called was an energetic performer who wrote significant lyrics for teens. But his singing voice was not as good as his other talents. He borrowed a lot of guitar skills from Sister Rosetta Tharpe. As for the opening riff, many musicians used it long before Berry; carl Hogan, Count Basie, Andy Kirk, Blind Blake, Blind Jefferson, Wilber Sweatman among others. But Harry Gibson probably deserves the most credit. Elvis' band, with lead guitarist James Burton was tight. Hardly anyone out-due Burton. In 1966, the band was not composed of the same members as from 1969 tp 1977.
This doesn't even sound like an actual recording. This is taken from a concert and that's why it's rushed through. They had a number of songs to get through within a certain amount of time. Also, Elvis always changed up his voice depending on what he was singing. I realize you think that Berry is the king, but no way is it true. There is only one King of Rock N Roll and that is Elvis Aaron Presley. Without him, you may never have heard of Chuck Berry. Let's also be clear, Elvis wasn't only Rock N Roll, he was a number of genres. Nobody compares to him and he wasn't competing with anybody anyway. If he performed someone's song, they should consider it a compliment. Elvis breathed music and only the best.
Vocally Chuck Berry was no Elvis Presley. I never thought Chuck could 'sing' at all, it was more talking-style. Chuck certainly couldn't sing Hurt or Now or Never. But I'll give Chuck the guitar over Elvis, but then again Elvis wasn't a 'guitarist' nor did he want to be. He only played to accompany himself. But as far as guitars go, James Burton could do circles around Chuck. I heard all of chucks work, and much of James' too. James was on another stellar level than Chuck.
Big Elvis fan (especially the early stuff) but not a fan of this cover. It's too fast and as such, has lost the rhythm of the Berry original. No desire to hear this again.
I love Elvis. Everything he sings. His voice, his looks his walk his talk, everything about him.
Wow, ELVIS THE BEST ⚡️🔥👏🏾🕺🎸🎶🎵❤

"dune autre planète set pour sa qui a qu'n seul Elvis 😇💞👽💥💥💫💫👏👏🙏🙏🙏🙏"
Your knowledge of rock music history is very impressive and adds greatly to your reactions. Thanks for sharing it.
That would be the epic James Burton on on his royal guitar !😅😊❤

The great James Burton.

That is a hard rock version in my opinion and the best take of J-B-Good I've ever heard
Elvis didn't even want to be a king..Although the truth is that Elvis is the king of music
👑✌️
You’re missing the point, Elvis spead this up this is hard rock dude, Elvis owns this 😂
Can just imagine Elvis moving to this one, I bet it would have been frenetic lol. There was a clip I've never seen in this montage, where Elvis was on one leg, bent over backwards and laid down! Wtf, was he made of rubber?

Great points about slowing down

James burton on the guitar solo with elvis

Another great version of Johnny B Goode is By Grateful Dead, Skull and Roses album 1971.
You can't beat Chuck's original sound for sure.

You meant that Elvis had Burton and his voice.
The Black Hillbilly as he used to be called was an energetic performer who wrote significant lyrics for teens. But his singing voice was not as good as his other talents. He borrowed a lot of guitar skills from Sister Rosetta Tharpe.

James Burton could Play the Riff behind his back. That is True
How about The Doors When the Musics over … I can’t seem to get anyone to react to my doors requests

How can you steal music, either you do it worse or better than others, and Elvis did it better than anybody most of the time
