Frequently Asked Questions:
😇 How old are you? 23
📝 What are you studying? I am set to start my masters in English Literature at Oxford University this autumn. Last year, I finished my English Literature degree at Exeter and am currently on a gap year.
📚What are your favourite books? • 200 book recommendatio...
📚 Do you have a book club? Yes! You can join it here for free: fable.co/club/reading-with-th...
📝 Have you written a book? My life goal is to be a published author and make a living from writing and I am using this year to gain experience, build up a portfolio and work on a book with my agent. I have just finished the final draft of that book, as you can see in this video. I did self-publish a book about bullying when I was seventeen which is available on Amazon (amzn.to/3mdJKLm), but I'm slightly embarrassed by it now!
🎃 Do you have merch? I don't have merch in the traditional sense (I can't imagine selling something with my face or name on haha!), but I do have a stationery company where I sell planners for students. These are all designed with students in mind and follow models which I've used when planning my studying. Our products are printed in pastel colours on recycled paper: bit.ly/3wgsR85
🍵 What's your favourite tea? That's a REALLY hard one, but I think I'd have to say the B&B Chocolate Digestive Tea: bird-and-blend-tea-co.sjv.io/... (affiliate link)
I live in wales and many years ago my now husband and I went on a date to Hay - he bought me The Complete Works of Keats. 25 years later I still have have the book and many fond memories of the place. Planning to take my 16 year old daughter to the festival next year❤
Watching your videos is like drinking a warm mug of freshly brewed tea, they are the definition of wholesome and I always feel so comforted and inspired, even on my worst days! Thank you Ruby for spreading your enthusiasm and joy for life! ❤
Oh how charming to describe her channel that way. Very nice.
i feel exactly the same! i am just so happy she exists and chooses to create this wholesome content for us so consistently for years! she is precious ♥️
I think Ruby is what the world needs. She’s just the most enthusiastic cheerful little bookworm. She’s a more intelligent version of me 🙂
Secondhandbookshopping? Is that one word? 😅
Like drinking a warm cup of Candlelit Library ;)
"It was very tempting to spend all of my lifesavings on books at this festival". Haha, I feel that! I could buy books all the time. Also, as a fellow Introvert, amazing that you made it 4 days!
Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read. Isaiah 34:16
I went to see Margaret Atwood too and I wanted to cry as soon as I saw her because I was so overwhelmed with gratitude, both for her work and for having the privilege to see the woman behind it! She truly is the Elizabeth Taylor among the book community!
Elizabeth Taylor, the actor or the author?
Sorry to say but she is a white feminist 😢
Lily, this may be totally useless info, but I actually used to care for a lady in my first job, and when she got married, Elizabeth Taylor was her matron of honour, and Richard burton was best man (the groom is rather well known in the movie world)
@@themoores9817 Thank you so much for this! I've always been incredibly interested in the Burton-Taylor marriage and I'm actually reading a book about them right now. It is safe to say that I envy her luck! Thank you again :)
@@lilybrown4180 I don’t know if you have seen the musical Oliver from 1968, but it was the cinematographer Oswald Morris and his wife Lee who had Taylor and burton as best man and matron of honour. I cared for Ozzies wife until she passed away in 2003. They had so many wonderful stories about their time in movies.
I can only imagine how much joy you must have felt; a huge book festival and spending some time with your far away best friend. Glad you had a wonderful time.
I saw the Margaret Atwood event too - and many more. The Matt and Richard Osman event was surprisingly entertaining too. Another great book festival is the one in late September in Wigtown, Dumfries and Galloway. Actually held in the centre of Scotland's national book town rather than Hay's out of town approach. There many bookshops but fewer so you can manage to scour them all. And there are lots of other quirky things to see and do too. Well worth a visit - and probably more than once.
Second hand books are my fav right now, and the vintage editions are lovely, love them. Also the yellow pages and all the extra "imperfections" they come with, love it💜
Thanks so much for taking us along, Ruby, attending this book festival has long been on my bucket list!
My goodness, the idea of visiting each and every book town is amazing... would love to see you visit more, Ruby!
What a wonderful trip! I’m so jealous of the festival, the authors’ talks, and a town with 22 bookshops! Wow. I agree with you about mood reading and being in the right headspace for a specific book. I have Yellowface set for soon and The Grapes of Wrath was such a fantastic book. I hope you love it. Thanks for sharing such a fun trip.
I'm thoroughly impressed Ruby! Your editing skills are on point, and you did an incredible job presenting the book festival to us viewers. The way you captured the essence of the festival and brought it to life through your video is truly remarkable. I felt like I was right there, experiencing the vibrant atmosphere and the joy of exploring countless books. Margaret Atwood, on top of it all, makes it even more special haha
Your passion for books and festivals truly shines through in this video. It's inspiring to see someone like you sharing their experiences and spreading the joy of reading with others. xx
We NEED more book festivals in the UK! 🥰 I have to try and go to the Hay Festival sometime in the future. What a wonderful video to watch as well. Your videos are always amazing, but this one was just so heartwarming ❤ x
That looks so much fun!! Glad you enjoyed yourself! Keep up the good work 👍🙂
Thanks for sharing this experience with us, Ruby! It’s amazing 📖
I am so jealous!!!!! I have always wanted to go there. It's definitely on my bucket list
those tents look like in Harry potter's quidditch world cup scene....
Catching up on your videos as I just found you a couple weeks ago. I agree with your thoughts of waiting to read a book until you are in the right headspace for it. I notice I look at it differently because of that. You are so inspiring to getting me to read books more and I’m going to the library a lot more.
Loved this video, Ruby! What an amazing experience! ❤📚📖✨
That's a great festival for book lovers 👍🎉 and it's good to see you having fun 🥳
It was so lovely meeting you at the festival (I was the strange girl outside the bookshop drinking hot coffee on a boiling day…)
You capture Hay beautifully in this video
I had no idea book festivals were a thing, definitely on my bucket list now.❤
I love what I see here. It's just remarkable. Even the castle is pretty old.
Thant was so wonderful rubyyy.watching your video is like drinking a warm mug of teaaa❤❤ thanks for sharing your experience
Hi Ruby waiting for this month book reviews and also productive and cozy vlogs
You are glowing lately, both inside and outside
Ruby, it must had been exciting to visit all those book stores with all those interesting books to read. I saw Margaret Atwood with her husband in an Italian restaurant in Stratford, Ontario in Canada.
Oh no, I was going to go but had a really stressful time so I forgot about it and missed it! I live close to Hay-on-Wye and I LOVE going there. Ah well, hope to be there next year, it looks like you had a great time! ♥
I’ve been to Hay but not to the festival. How wonderful that you were able to go!
Working men's libraries were popular in Wales from Great Depression onward and centres if learning. These gradually began to close from '60's as the demographic changed. The library stock was sold off and books were bought by the cwt (weight). Hay, a Welsh tiwn, was the emergent centre where many of these books ended up and were saved.
This is probably one of the best videos of Ruby
How nice that you came over here to Wales. :)
I LOVED Lanny! I cant wait to read Shy! Thank you for your review.
im glad that you and blakney are still good friends after uni!!
Best sort of video to watch with a cuppa! ❤
We wish you well, Ruby. Just know we will always support you no matter what.
Stay focused on pouring your heart out onto the page, and one day, you will be the writer on the stage.
i love how the rose and the thorn plays in every video
Love your luggage! ♥ and your hands full of ink, it reminds me of me 😄 when I am using my rubber stamps and markers. Thanks for sharing! 👋
Oh my... I just saw Richmond in South Africa, I didnt know it was a book town as well. Will check it out.
So wish I could have been at that festival! Been seeing all the videos. I have been to Hay before but it wasn't during the festival. Maybe sometime. :)
I love your videos Ruby I’m really excited for the Oxford videos like moving in, etc. will you do a Babel themed day in Oxford?
Id be in heaven at that book festival. Looks amazing. 📚📖
Can we have a book festival like this in Greece please? It looks like an awesome experience!!!
I am pretty sure you gonna love the Grapes of Wrath. I read it some time ago along with other steinbeck books and it is definitely my favourite. I'd like to know what you think about the finale ad soon as you finish it, if you don't mind.
I had already heard about Hay... maybe one day I'll be able to shop there. BTW, Next time you come to Italy let me know in advance...who knows? We might be able to meet up. Keep on going Ruby! ❤
It's truly amazing! I love your aesthetics & vlogg!
I am so excited to watch 😊
Hello. I am latvian/finnish writer from Helsinki. I use an old typewriter and I have few Bronte books and I collect old books as well. I have been obsessed with my typewriter and coffee for a long time. I have been watching you channel for several years. I dress in black and I love poetry. On my way to second book. Have a great summer!
Looking forward to reading Yellowface, glad you enjoyed it.
Young people of every generation try to "change the world" it is a right of passage.
I remember the hippies!
The book festival sounds like heaven on Earth ❤ I would like to visit one. I'm a truthy bookaholic 😅
That was so interesting. Thank you for sharing. I think I read Grapes of Wrath in 9th grade. Enjoy ! 😊
What an ideal trip for our smart and adorable heroine! Glad you had fun Ruby.
Wow, amazing place, I’ve never been too a book festival before ❤ but will love to attend one.
If you want to go to Hay start planning 18 months before and Clyro is worth a look. If money no object, stay at Baskerville Hall in Clyro and yes it that the Baskerville Hall.
@@paulotoole4950 thank you so much, I really do appreciate
What a lovely festival 😃 thanks for sharing! A pity I life so far away 🥲
I went too! It was truly amazing 💞
Yellowface was indeed great. OOOH I LOVE The Grapes of Wrath. I re read it every year.
Elle Mcnicoll was also there. Her book: A kind Of Spark, was recently placed in the top 100 children's books of all time (she is also the youngest ever author to get in this list).
Your 3 star rating of this book on goodreads has been noted. ;)
I honestly love what she did with the book and it’s one all y7 and 8 students should read - I gave it 3 based on my enjoyment, not it’s importance (just because I’m reading it as an adult maybe!). Maybe it was too harsh a rating 🙈xx
@@RubyGranger8 She's an absolute diamond :) If you get a chance to meet her then you should jump because she's simply the loveliest woman with the most lilting voice. It's hard to believe stories so powerful can come from someone so warm and gentle. One in a million, and a real trailblazer :) (she's working on a YA book btw so hopefully you can cover it. I'd love it if you did. Much love from London
I went too, was amazing. Got very merry with Margaret Atwood and Tracey Emin in the pub, they are an absolute hoot! I didn't even know who Margaret Atwood was until after, she is super modest and just said she was visiting the festival.
I've always told to my authors colleagues to arrange like these festivals but unfortunately we couldn't do it due to the economic crises that faced us. I hope someday we could do like this big but humble festival.
I love this video✨️
A girl in my year at school was at this with her new book 'catfish rolling' she was just like you in school always reading ❤
If you're ever in Columbus, Ohio, USA, then you must make a visit to German Village's Book Loft. It has a plethora of nooks and several levels. You can also make a virtual visit.
I love your videos 💕
Love u ruby always ❣️
Max Porter's Shy sounds so interesting... I would love to read it!
I want to read it, especially as a mum to a teen boy.
This has got me looking forward to going glamping in October (I’ve paid £420 for 2 weeks- as I go to visit family)
I'm from Wales but don't live anywhere near there (I'm close to the Snowdonia National Park), but have always wondered what Hay-on-Wye is like.
Not to be picky or anything however the Hay Book festival is in England. The current Welsh border runs about 20 yards from the river so you can swap countries by swapping sides of the road.
I really like this video✨️
You should have bought Mat Osman's The Ghost Theatre (which you are holding in one scene of the video), I think you'd like it!
awesome video ruby
Spotted Richmond, South Africa, in your book towns book! 🤎
I love your suitcases! Where did you get them? I'm currently on the hunt for some and would love to have something similar.
Ruby your videos genuinely make me happy. You have fantastic content. I love watching your videos at the end of the day in my bed.
Just a recommendation, in the community section you could have a post for video recommendations so people can go there if they have any and they won't get lost in the comments. Also, I got a reply to my other comment on the last video and it was someone impersonating you saying I won a giveaway. Thought I should let you know. I love you. You are who I aspire to be.
That’s such a great idea! I’ll set that up :) and thank you for telling me! It keeps happening and I’m trying to keep the accounts blocked but they keep popping up! I’m sorry this happened! X
Hello Ruby! Lovely content as always! Just wanted to suggest an author I love, that you might enjoy trying. His name is Nikos Kazantzakis and has a good selection of gems such as Zorba the Greek!
Literally as soon as I read the title, before even clicking on it I thought Hay festival because my other favourite UA-camr Jack Edwards went and made a video on it really recently
Have you tied up the loose ends with your previous facebook bookclub that you abandoned before opening up a new one? I think you should at least put up a notice there and close it officially because the facebook group really became a mess and it just does not look good on your brand. I also think it’d be respectful for the mods who took the blow for your irresponsible management and all the members who cut you slack if you would bring that bookclub to a proper closure.
how was the book festival ruby. did you have fun going ❤
you should read The Poppy War trilogy by RF Kuang, it's historical fantasy but definitely her best books !!
WOAH!
Thanks boss
Have a productive day 🏹🌺🧚♀️💄🕊🌠⚘💘
I really like your top/shirt where can I get it 💕
OMG! Did you hurt your left hand? 😮 I hope you are Ok, and its nothing serious, get well soon!❤
Have you ever been to the Jane Eyre festival that takes place every autumn?
I didn’t even know about it oh my gosh!
My dream is to go there. 😍
Your videos are so good we have so much in common i live in the us i think your acent i don't know if i spelled that right
Whats about art books?? Is there a special bookstore for it???
💛🌻
Hi Ruby, I like to check out what you’re reading and sometimes follow through. This time I’d like to tell you about a book that I found wonderful to read and it’s called “The Light Between Oceans” by ML Stedman. I hope you make time to read it, and I would be very surprised if you didn’t thoroughly enjoy it. Greetings from Downunder. 🦋🌷🦋
loved this vlog! :) What font do you use? :) x
Thanks a lot bye
I just left London but gave you been to Peter Harringtons?
❤
Yayyyyyyyy
Are books kind of cheap in the UK? I live in Sweden and here books can be expensive (especially if you want to buy a lot of them), if they are not from a second hand shop.
About £7-£20 but we have so many second-hand bookshops!
@@theavodkadoyes and for what I see online second hand bookshops are amazing there, you find many gems
PM me if you plan on going again as you missed what use to be the best place to visit.
Do you saw algebra and trigonometry books?
You kinda look like Ruby from the webseries Ann with an E and your name also Ruby but your nature is more like Anne🤩 so that's interesting...😃and also your surname is Granger WOW what a combination😍
Ahh that is such a complementary comment to read haha! Thank you!
i luv her and i don't kno y (well, kinda i do)
Have you read babel?
oh , Ruby ....
what will you do/think if cpu's expert filter each frequenz of your voice ?
- european song contest with selfmade lyrics ...i will catch till i'am in first line in front of the stage ...your voice is same level like franco-canadian diva mado**a ...only miles away 😘
