Although strongly indebted to Prokofiev and Shostakovich, this little sonata written when the composer was just 19 years old already shows what a fine and capable composer he was.
What a terrific little Piano Sonata! Well, "little" only in the sense of length, certainly not in content. It's a delightful work reminiscent of Prokofiev, although the second movement also recalled Shostakovich's Preludes and Fugues.
I like these "neo-baroque" pieces of some XX century russian composers (likewise the Suite in the Old style of Kapustin). Wonderful here the 3rd movement that is sort of Toccata but extremely fascinating also the 1st one that is sort of Allemande and and 2nd that is sort of Sarabande. Will listen more of BorisTchaikovsky, indeed
Just discovered Boris Tchaikovsky and his music is quite wonderful. Of course, the Piano Concerto stands alone for what it does in the first movement, but, really, a great composer. Hope to hear more.

Indeed, the Sonata reminds one of Prokofiev's first output in the genre, good ideas marked by at times undeveloped ideas and inconsistency.

Interesting piece, somewhere between Shostakovich, Hindemith and Prokofiev. And an amazing performance. Thanks for sharing.
