Fully agree with all your comments on both the Easee ONE charger and Bumblebee as an Installer/Installation Manager. My set up was installed in March this year when they were going flat out to get installations completed before the OLEV grants were finished. They were cool, calm and collected and ensured that the job was completed to my satisfaction. Can't recommend them highly enough, (and I haven't been paid to add this comment, either)!
I've just signed up to the Octopus Intelligent tariff which gives 5 hours cheap rate of 7.5p/KWh between 11:30 - 04:30. But it can also charge during the day at the cheaper rate if electricity prices are cheaper. I have the Ohme Home Pro Charger which is tethered. With cheap home charging and free charging at work, it saving me a fortune in fuel costs! Especially with current petrol/diesel prices.
The first split second I saw the charger mounted on your wall Jim, I thought it was Darth Vader's mask. Looks a neat install. I had my main electricity feed moved about 4 years ago, as it was overhead. I wanted it underground, as it was running right over where I was building an extension. My local DNO did the work in around 2 hours, after I had dug the trench for the new conduit and cable. Thinking ahead, I specifically asked the engineer to fit a 100 amp main fuse on the input, which he did..... A couple of the cheapest overnight EV rates at the moment Jim, are EDF at 4.5p per kwh, and Octopus Go! at 7.5p per kwh. Understandably, the day time rates are a bit higher than normal, but if you can live with that then these prices seem good..... Bumblebee looks great Jim. The receptionist isn't by any chance called Honey, is she?
I’m not going to justify the receptionist joke with a reply Brian, poor effort Sir. I’ll keep my existing tariff for now as will probably charge a car 3 times per month max at the moment but if it becomes more regular or I win the lottery and buy an EV I’ll surely make the switch 👍
Looks good! I would always recommend a tethered charger (unless you’re buying an old Leaf etc), bit of a faff getting the charger out of the boot each time you want to charge (although I know you said you could lock one into that)
Yes, I have no real interaction with it other than to tell it to start or stop which it very reliably does. There’s a Facebook group that suggests Easee customer support is pants though and suggests some reliability issues for some - but for me the Easee One has been great.
@@DefinitelyNotAGuru thanks for the response. I guess there’s a facebook group for everything. There’s negative reviews for pod points customer service too. They all need to do better. We’ve ordered the Easee so fingers crossed we have no issues!
Hi Jim, Really good video - ticks all the right boxes, especially the dual tethering facility. For your own peace of mind take a look at the video of The MacMaster of 10 days ago (lasts almost 11 mins.) re.EV's.You may well be pleased you have dual tethering. Big Al.
great video. i cannot decide what ev charger to install, but im getting closer to choosing. Quick Q - how do you decide on which ev charger installer to go with, any tips on that to avoid 'cowboys' ? cheers.
I’d give Bumblebee a ring, they’re really expert and the installer that did mine was first class. I got the Easee one as it seems fairly future proof and is a piece of cake to use.
I don't think I missed it but you said you were going to cover the planning process and I didn't see anything of the planning process, only how the cable was run. I enjoy your video but I think the main concern people have is what do you have to do before the actual installation, with DNOs and the like. And I have liked it.
@@DefinitelyNotAGuru DNOs, the Distribution Network Operator, are the people who say if the supply is suitable for an EV charger, I assume the installer requested the permission but I am certain you should have got a copy of the permission. I would have thought that would have been part of the planning section.
That's the rub. Not all of them do. I think this Bumblebee can. I know the MyEnergy Zappi does, because that's what I have..... Zappi can handle input from a domestic wind turbine too, although those aren't exactly common.....
I presume this allows you to charge multiple cars? That is, you can plug it into any car and it immediately works? The Ohme doesn't do that, you'd have to effectively wipe your car details from the app to make it a dumb charger, then set the whole thing up again. What a faff if you have a guest over

Glad to hear it Nick, the experience couldn't have been much better for me.

Great stuff 👍

Yes Jim definitely a thumbs up 👍 very informative won’t be long before we have a home charger fitted .
Thanks Steve
Looks a smart bit of kit. Very similar functionality to my wallbox charger. Welcome to the wonderful world of EV's you'll be a convert in no time 😃
Cheers Adam
great insight to something we all have had to guess at up till now, thanks
Thanks mate

Yes, you can do both with this one which seems like best of both worlds 👍
Good move .. thanks for sharing your experience
Thanks Jock
Thanks for this video. Looking to get the Easee charger this week. A year on would you still recommend it? Thanks

Very cool looking unit , nice one so guessing your going to reviewing a lot more EVs or you going to buy one at some pont?
Anything I want I can’t afford at the moment but around 50% of cars I review are now EV and that number will only ever increase.
I hope all goes well Jim. Sounds like the company has done a great job, except they arrived without cakes and booze… so no 10 out of 10 from me 😆🤭😉
I know, the nerve of it 😂😂

Just clicked the Bublebee link and wont work. went onto the website and the Easee one charger isnt there????
It’s an old video and Bumblebee are under new ownership I believe

DNO’s? I took a few pictures of what I showed in the video and explained it. That’s was basically it.

Thanks Jim, interesting video. Does that charger support linking to solar panels / batteries?

I’m not sure I’m afraid Tony bug Bumblebee will be happy to answer your questions. If this one doesn’t suit they have plenty of others to choose from.

Yep, I plug all EV my press cars in to it, no further action required. Great piece of kit.
Can you input different charge rates for different hours of the day in the app so you can work out exactly how much it’s cost you.
I don’t think so.
Hey great video! Does it come with a cable in the box or do you have to buy separately?
No cable included with mine.
what size cable did you use from the consumer unit to the Easee One?
I had it professionally installed so no idea
👍👍👍
Thanks Pete, have a good weekend.
The bumblebee link is not a hyperlink (on my PC anyway). I needed to copy and paste. It needs to be embedded.
Same here if you copy the text and paste it works in browser but not if you click it - seems to be the emojis on the end of the link are messing it up
Thanks for the heads up, hopefully now fixed
