One day the foreman came down the hall to my teaching studio and told me a customer was enquiring about a Bachenbrahms piano. He told her a tale about how the two famous composers had gotten together to design their own piano. He came to ask me if the two had known each other! Another scam technician, not in our shop, sold a piano where he had replaced the tuning pins with nails!
Yeaaaaaa I almost fell for the free piano scam. Then they started saying they needed cash up front for the moving and I never even saw it physically I was like...yeah no I don't care if its free I still wanna see it because what if it takes thousands in repairs. Also the whole "We accept Bitcoin" I was like yeaaaa this is a scam.
Yep, almost fell into this trap...I was given the same story (widow lady who's late husband wants to gift it to a person who is a "passionate lover" of the instrument. I was put in contact with a fake delivery website where "Raul" from Fresno, CA told me the delivery cost. RED FLAGS ABOUND! I immediately disengaged from the "Chat" and realized what was going on.
Just came across the same scam pretending to be in Metairie Louisiana, guy wanted me to deal with the trucking company because he was going on vacation today. Trucking “company” was called M.Dante Trucking Service. Had a website and everything. Avoid avoid avoid!
I recently encountered this scam at multiple places. All along the lines of: "If you pay to ship your piano to us, we can restore it for X amount of dollars (over $10,000) and then it will be worth a lot more than that and we will try to find a buyer." The problem is that the piano in question is virtually unsalable for over $500 in ANY condition!
People call me to try to play the insurance scam at least a few times a year. THey want me to give them a replacement value on an old piano with the promise they will buy a new piano...low and behold after they get an estimate in writing they never buy a piano. Sketchy!
I live near Columbia SC so I was looking on Craigslist and there is a digital piano that is listed, for the last 2 years. Said they paid 850 but only wanted 650. No mention of the brand or model. Huge red flag.
For example: Hi, I have a grand piano in my possession which I'm looking to give away to a passionate music lover. As a child, I had two or three piano lessons but now I'm older. My left pinky is useless due to ganglion cysts on my palms as well as rheumatoid arthritis. Unfortunately, that has a bad effect on my bandura playing, this is the main reason I'm looking to give this instrument away to someone who will value it and take absolute care of it. Only one owner, 4’7" inches long, made in 2008 , has been in the same home the entire time and it has been properly maintained and very well taken care of. Truly exceptional tone and touch, you ain't gonna be disappointed with the Tone.
What about Masterclass or literally piano from zero by Stephen Ridley? Is he a scammer? He keeps talking about everything else than how to play 4 cords without even showing them properly. People have 1h time to buy over one grad dvd course. He keeps harrashing by emails. The ee is nothing free in it..
He's a Scientologist who invites people to marketing pieces. The one I just watched was supposed to be 90 minutes with 60 minutes of Q&A. It lasted just under 4 hours. When they went to give away the piano, it was a clusterf*ck. Read Reddit reviews and others talking about the Ridley baloney.
And theres a scam advertisement from a Scientologist on your video wanting to give away a free piano

Plus, I would only take lessons in person, not follow a book or lessons online.
