YOU CAN TELL JEAN SHEPARD HAS SUNG IN ALOT OF PLACES WERE SHE HAD TO COMPROMISE...SHE IS A TRUE PROFESSIONAL AND A REAL COUNTRY MUSIC SINGER...ONE OF THE LAST REAL ONES.
My Daddy watched The Grand Old Opry all of my life. It is beyond me how I could have forgotten Jean Shepherd but thank Heaven for UA-cam. The music of this amazing woman is in my life again. ❤

Jean can't be beaten by anyone when it comes to singing country songs. Moreover, her love for true country music is unmeasurable: she never restrained from voicing her displeasure for pop-country, even though she knew she'd have paid in terms of airplay and, therefore, sales. That's why she was locked out of the Country Music Hall of Fame for over 30 years and never won a major award (CMA or ACM). Anyway she doesn't need no "Female Vocalist Of The Year" or "Entertainer Of The Year" awards: she's the female vocalist of the CENTURY and the entertainer of a LIFETIME.

Jean never became a big country star ...but she was a legend ....she never had a gimmick like dolly or loretta but sings just as good and has just as good of a voice!!!

About 10 years ago I went to the Grand Ole Opry and she opened up the show and it was the very first time I heard her sing and she sung that song and I fell in love with her honest country voice and became a fan right then! May God have her singing up in Heaven when I get there cause I want to hear her sing again!

Thanks for posting this David. I have been a major fan of this grand lady for many many years and I have had the pleasure of meeting and corresponding with her many many times. Country music only has one Jean Shepard. Country music will never see another Jean Shepard. She is a true legend in her own time. jean is also a very classy lady with a very big heart !
I had the extreme privilege of meeting this remarkable women, when I took my mom to hear her sing along with Miss. Kitty Wells, Johnny and Bobby Wright. They put on a hell of a show, that would put many of today's country singers to shame. Pure talent all around.
The GREATEST . She along with Kitty Wells knocked down doors women singers had never been through before...THEN THE LEGEND BEGAN ! RIP DEAR LADY.
She was amazing!! Now she is reunited with the love of her life, Hawkshaw Hawkins!!

My grandpa actually got to see Jean in concert and when she was done she came down and talked to my grandpa and my grandma and now my grandpa is up there with Jean rip grandpa and Jean
The older you get the better you get she is terrific
The really good version of this song by Jean was taken down for some reason. It's the one where Jimmy Capps (now deceased) screws up for one of the few times in his lifetime. And everyone cracks up when he goes off on an interlude in the wrong key. Even he cracks up, everyone stops singing, and the song pauses until he finally finds his way back again. It was shown recently on Larry's Country Diner and I have that show captured (so I actually have it). But I cannot imagine why it was taken town. It is one of the great all time CM videos. As great as he was, even he had an occasional slip up. After the song he places the guitar on his head and grins.

Jean Shepard will be missed
Several years ago I was listening to some of her songs on you tube. Three of the songs I listened too were made famous by three great artists. When noticed that Jean Shepard had sung the three songs just as well if not better than the three famous artists I realized then that she was one of the greatest singers that ever lived. Thanks Jean for having blessed me and others with your great voice, wonderful sense of humor and all you have done for traditional country music. I will really miss you.

This lady is tops. There are other great country music artists, but Jean is my very favorite. I just love her voice. And I am only a 30 year old male. Her voice sends chills up my spine because of its great sweet sound.

On November 21, 2015, Shepard became the first female to be a member of
the Grand Ole Opry for 60 consecutive years. A feat that only one other
person has achieved. She then retired from the stage that night.
On September 25, 2016, Shepard died of Parkinson's Disease.

Ms Shepard I don't know if you ever read these but I have heard your song since I was a child. I never thought it was a sad song I always thought that I we didn't try hard we would lose our love and your song reminded us that if we didn't try what a waste. We just celebrated 24 years because we didn't want our love to "slip" a way Thanks for the beautiful song.

Just to clarify myself,all her fifties and early sixties stuff is readily available,everywhere,for buttons,but NOT her '64 to '75 and to my mind,her best on disc. I've got all her LP's in the shed,but would like the tracks digitally....but NOT re-records.
