    • @SolarShado
      @SolarShado 5 років тому +3

      From what I've heard about Simple Rockets 2, it might seem a bit simplistic if you've already put a lot of time into KSP. It does sound like it could be a great stepping stone/intro to the "genre"(?) though!

    • @charliembta2400
      @charliembta2400 5 років тому +3

      @@SolarShado funny, so far I think it's actually the opposite. I've put over 500 hours into ksp but I've found that having to use a specific part can really limit your creations. I've gone to every single body and back (except eve) and I've gotten quite bored with stock parts. I think, as it introduces more ideas, simple rockets might actually prove to be the go to choice for astrophysics enthusiasts. We'll have to see though.

    • @SolarShado
      @SolarShado 5 років тому +1

      @CharlieMBTA How deep have you gone into KSP modding? I've not gone too far beyond QoL stuff like KER, but I've seen some pretty crazy extras. Stuff like RSS and FAR seem like they'd come close to making it an entirely new game (for those specifically, one with a fair bit steeper difficulty curve). Though, to be fair, I've only got just over 300hrs and haven't actually landed on anything outside of Kerbin's SoI.
      I'll definitely be keeping an eye on SR2, though. It does look like a promising start, based on the couple videos I've seen.

    My wife got a very cool item on our last trip to Kennedy space center, my wife is a quilter and while she's interested in space items I figured that I would enjoy the space shuttle display much more than her. But much to my surprise, one of the employees working there that day was actually one of the women who did the quilting of the outer soft surfaces of the space shuttles, much of what I had always assumes was solid material was actually just highly advanced fabric that a bunch of women (as I recall I think she said there was only a couple men in that job over the life of the program.
    So, if your wife us a quilter than you realized i spent far more time exploring the shuttle display than I planned as my wife and this woman, whom I wish I could remember her name, chatted away merrily with my wife and gave her a tour of the outside fabric coverings, explaining how they were put together and what they did, it was actually very interesting. She also showed us a few mostly empty rolls if the various threads they used when sewing the coverings.
    Well she gave my wife her business card, and through it she fastened a piece of each of the various threads, some metal, some not, that the woman clipped from the rolls for me wife as a momento. It was, and still is, very cool.

    For the more technically-inclined, another great book idea is Ignition!, by John Drury Clark. It's an informal history of the development of liquid rocket propellants, and it really drives home how we ended up with the currently-used propellants -- and why all the other options faded into disuse. Amusingly, I also got hooked on astronomy due to a little 50mm refractor which I bought from a thrift shop for $50, but man, by comparison, that little brass Celestron is really expensive - that's about as much as I paid for my Celestron AstroMaster 130EQ reflector which is a much more capable instrument. Of course, that's when there is something to look at - from mid-november to mid-march the planets will all pass during the day and the sky is predominantly overcast... so no stargazing for me until spring.
    Bear in mind, if you want to buy one of Oli Braun's models - he can't provide decals for trademarked logos because he doesn't have a licence for them, so the SpaceX logo will be missing - instead he provides blank decal paper for you to print your own.
    Also, I have one of those moon night-lights. it's awesome and I recommend it to everyone.

    I really like quality, lasting, heavier fabric t-shirts, and I can testify that RocketLabs shirts are perfect. Not like those “soft and nice feeling” (but will fall apart after 10 washes) t-shirts at all. I went back and bought some more after I saw how excellent the quality was

      Oh good!!! I agree. I switched my store to ringspun cotton because it’s still soft and lightweight but plenty durable. Best of both worlds. I kind of think Rocket Lab uses something similar

      I can’t find any size guide on your website. Are your sizes similar to the RocketLab shirts also? I’m a 2XL from some stores but only a XL from Rocketlabs.

    I've had the same feelings when I've seen Moon, Venus, Mars, Jupiter or Saturn trough my TAL-1 telescope. This was amazing experience. So yes Tim, if you've never seen it with your own eyes only on the monitor .... then yes, it is amazing!!!!
