- Mississippi State and Texas played in the opening round of the 2021 College World Series. This part of the CWS is double elimination. The winner would advance to play Virginia in the winners bracket, while the loser would play Tennessee in an elimination game.

I have a combined 4 years of experience as a Baseball & Basketball Play by Play announcer, which is where I learned my skills for commentary/breakdowns.

His dad (Danny Ardoin) was an MLB catcher for 8 seasons so he’s been coached well from the start.
This pitching was insane. Even with the most inconsistent strike zone I've ever seen.
Bednar is a gem, i hope we can see a Mississippi State vs Vandy for the title.

I know Stone Simmons from when he was only 5 year's old. He will be pitching one day this year for Mississippi.
He used to play music and hang out with my niece! They are both almost grown ups now...man time flies.

I love listening to Texas fans crying blaming the umps when they lose…. When your team strikeouts 21 times out of 27 outs that’s not the umpires fault…. Texas benefited from missed calls just as much as state did. 9 out of 10 games missed calls balance each other out. You benefit from them just as much as the other team. The difference in the game is state got the big hit when they needed it and Texas didn’t plain and simple
Texas will be fine. Mississippi was better plain and simple. Will they lose the next 2 games? Very likely.

I’ve played at that field and in the day time it’s almost like the ball blends in with the shadows. So I already know balls were insanely hard to hit.
At 3:49 the announcer said Rocker also hit a guy after settling in. Crazy thing is they were both breaking balls that broke right into a lefty batters back knee.

That umps strike zone turned into the size of penny that last inning. Some of those pitches were knees right down the middle or the dude was painting corners. Terrible inning for the ump

He spent most of the game trying to drown them ( and several players on the other team as well). He was bad the whole game, not just at the end. The backwards K against Cam Williams with a runner on in a full count earlier in the game was at least 8 inches off the plate and low. Texas can't blame the ump for being behind any more than Miss St can blame him for nearly blowing it though.

Great game. Madden left some fat balls there in the 4th. Other than that he was great. The umps made some questionable calls IMO. Both ways. 3rd base ump on a check swing. Most of the Tx. Ks were of the swinging type. Loved the aggressive nature the horns had.
Dude had two more strikeouts that I guess the ref ate a Gummie in the eighth.
Blue wasn’t great...he wasn’t even biased towards a team, he was just so inconsistent
U must not have watched the game? He had a very established zone, anything inside was a strike it had to be really close outside to get a call tho

As a Texas fan I saw this coming from a mile away...the regionals were fouls gold for our offense. The pitching was horrendous and they scored the vast majority of their runs because of wild pitching, bad defense, stealing bases, and sacrifices. Naturally Texas earned some of that with patience and good running but you can't steal and you can't sacrifice when facing a pitcher that doesn't let you on base for free...you have to hit the damn ball hard...and even against the poor pitching in the regionals they had very few hard hit balls. They wont all their games by a large margin but left sooo many runners on base in every game. I knew once they got to Omaha that a good pitcher was gonna expose them.

The irony is that they should have been swinging sooner most of the game because the starter was killing them early in the count by just pumping in strikes...but the closer was clearly getting rattled, so thats the worst time to go after a pitch with no strikes.

Texas' coaching was terrible...they were clearly not seeing the ball well, they needed to start jumping on aggressive pitchers earlier in the count instead of trying to be patient against a guy eating them alive from ahead in the count. But the biggest sin was when they finally had a runner on with Cam Williams up to bat who has been one of the few guys on the roster hitting the ball hard lately, and he had a 3-0 count where everyone on earth knew a fastball right down the middle was coming....and they had him TAKE IT WITH TWO OUTS....WHY....you haven't made contact all night and you got the most obvious pitch coming in with one of your best power hitters......SWING THE DAMN BAT....what good does it do to try and get a walk when you know damn well the next guy up and doing shit....
