Cool inspection Terry. Man folks do some crazy stuff sometimes. Was very interesting to see the old girl was working. Soon as I saw that monster modulation resistor I was like WT? Two taps? Then saw the terminal was not connected on the end and knew what they had done. Always good to see the master at work, thanks for sharing.

How the heck you have 32k subs and only 169 likes? People need to give you some recognition. Thanks for sharing.

I have the Viking II CD model in my station. Finally got an original Johnson VFO. Had been using a Griefkit one for years. 73'

Hey Terry, I didn't see the fork lift you used to pick that thing up with. Real radios glow in the dark, and they keep your shack warm in the winter.

When I saw you break out the gloves I couldn't help but chuckle. :)

Nice, good thoughts as always, Terry! I would actually think it would be better if that big, hot resistor was on top under the cover and not under the chassis, maybe the previous repairer was into a good thought about this..

"So all in all, I believe it's safe to turn it on".. Still trying to figure out how you came up with that (lol!) I had to stop the video and shout "What the heck?" My wife asked what was the matter and we both watched as you fired it up.. the drama was too much (lol!) It was great to see it come to life though.

Many thanks for all the information and videos on these great old radios.
I have one here I have been in the process of "de" moding and seems like there is always something else or another surprise in this thing.
IJust this morning discovered another mystery capacitor in the form of a Mallory 10 mf 450 wvdc from screen of 807's to chassis instead of the 0.5 in the schematic.
I don't mind mods so much as long as they improve reliability, component stress and life.
Is there any source for "valid" mods on these things? Im seeing other "enhancements" that I don't know what they are or purpose.
Thanks again for this excellent resource.

Ohhhh... I was hoping to see... THE COBBLER make his dastardly appearance! This seems tailor-made for this radio. Oh, well - maybe DICK from the Internet could show up?
Very good job doing a pre-operation diagnosis, Terry!
