WAIT! I didn't know he was Steve on full house too! That's actually insane. Also he honestly should have been the Aladdin actor in the live action movie, that probably would have made it way better.
For the opening scene with the merchant, Robin Williams had to stand in front of a table covered with a cloth, and was told to just react to whatever he pulled out. Meaning yes, there's a good chance he did break something.
Dear Sweet Baby Jesus, please let Welchy watch Sinbad (the animated Dreamworks version) and convince him it’s a good idea to take a shot any time he’s attracted to a character.
You need to watch Twisted: the untold story of a Royal Vizer. It is such a good musical, and Ja'far (how his name is spelled in the play, ironically it's actually the Arabian/Persian appropriate spelling) is a good guy.
0:39 No, i believe the intent is to imply the merchant _IS_ Genie. He pulls things (including _a lighter)_ out of nowhere and somehow knows the whole story. His face also looks more cartoony than everybody else's. Also, everything after the merchant's babbling is foashback.

Yes please watch Aladdin 2 & 3. And I'll recommend Star Kid's Twisted as well. It's the only one of their musical parodies that I've actually been able to watch all the way through. I just could not seem to get into their musicals at all, but that one was really well done.
Welchy, despite never watching this before all I can ask is how much do you love Jafar? Would you watch a musical dedicated to him meant for adults? Thats what Starkids Twisted is! But seriously, your take on this film was amazing and very entertaining! Love your videos!
I don't know if someone already said this, but yes, Robin Williams voices the merchant in the beginning of the movie. The head guard (I think he's the head guard?) has the same voice actor as Pete the cat. You can really hear it when he says "I would princess." Or it is for me at least. Also, *PLEASE* watch the behind the scenes videos of Robin Williams voicing Genie. I watched it about a year after his passing, it was a bittersweet moment but I loved it and still love it now.
im actually so happy that you liked the movie, as Aladdin is my favorite Disney movie of all time. I had quinceñera (hispanic, usually mexican 15th bday party that represents teenage girl growing into a woman/basically a ride of passage clebration) in the theme of aladdin where my main dance was A Whole New World and my surprise dance was Friend Like Me

Robin Williams pretty much launched the use of A-tier actors voicing animated movies with Aladdin. He did such a great job that there was a sudden surge in terrible animated movies with famous actors, since Hollywood hadn't yet understood that just a name wasn't enough to bring in an audience, but Disney, at least, was able to combine both excellent writing and excellent acting talent.
No, you can still blame the Sultan, because he could have changed the law the whole time and didn't. This would have prevented Jasmine from running away, or Aladdin from having to portray himself as a prince to marry her, or Jafar from trying to marry her. He didn't change the law probably because he looks down on common folk and does not see them as worthy to marry her, which is obvious because he only changes the law for Aladdin to marry her after he's literally saved the country and the Sultan's ass. Before that, Aladdin was just a poor commoner street urchin in his eyes. So you can still rationalize despising him if you want, lol.
I honestly believed you were talking about Twisted when I read the title😂 (Again, you HAVE to watch it! I don't usually rewatch stuff, but I've seen Twisted 3 times. I even have all the songs on my playlist😂)

I believe the merchant at the beginning is supposed to be Genie, long after the film's events (when the mortals are all dead and he had to move on). Iirc the voice actor is the same, and the merchant's face is more cartoonish than the other characters'. He also somehow knows the whole story, including the stuff that propably wasn't told to the public. And there's the weird way the stall pops out, though it could be just cartoon humor.
Just commenting to add to the list of people recommending Starkid's parody musical "Twisted". It's incredibly funny while being genuinely sincere and moving, the music is (I am not exaggerating) Hamilton-levels of clever writing and catchy melodies, there is A TON of swearing, and it really pokes fun not only at Aladdin, but other Disney films and the corporate side of Disney itself as well. It makes you root unironically for Jafar as a hero and is written in a way that doesn't discount the original film, and still manages to make it so Twisted could genuinely be the "real story". I genuinely hope you consider checking it out, it's such a glorious masterpiece in every way. (Just in case you need extra convincing, it includes lines like "tiger fucker" and "a song is a dick in sheep's clothing" and no, I will not provide context lol 😉)
