Its not about the value of the house. Its the cost of money that you borrow. That is not robbery! Its business! It is what it is. Dont go into situation if you cannot be responsible for it. Robbery is taking something with out your consent. You got into contract meaning you agree with it.
After listening to this I can confidently say that Mr. Ali Khan is ignorant in what makes Real Estate Valuable. 1st its the land that appreciates not the structure. Also he is equating Riba as mentioned in the Quran to Interest amounts paid on mortgages. Define Riba 1st properly. He also isn't taking inflation, increased labor cost, and population growth into consideration. Riba is predatory loans as in payday loans, Pawn shop loans, shark loans, etc. Buying property is the very best thing someone can do for their children and loved ones once they are gone from this world. I bought a House for 600k with 30% down lived in it for 15 years and sold it for 1.8 million. His examples of the mortgage cost completely neglects to mention property appreciation and demand. Also if you decide to rent you will be paying your landlords interest payments all while building zero assets. So your still paying interest just indirectly.
While I highly respect Nouman Khan, his logic is flawed. Btw, I am not justifying Riba here. For one, the 200,000$ you hypothetically paid in 1980 for the house is about 550$/month for 30 years. That is way less than renting a house. Unfortunately, no matter how I look at it, the value of the house will always appreciate and rent will forever be rising. This is all due to the economy depending on interest rates and inflation. When you have things like dollars and euros, which are in of themselves haram due to them being riba-based, then no matter how much you think about it, the end result will always benefit the borrower for real estates.
they aren't making any more land. it will always appreciate. Riba first needs to be defined correctly. From all the mentions in the Quran it reads as predatory loans.
