Being a PSW is easy when you know you carry the proper tools in your mind tools like religion, knowing that there’s life after death Makes your understanding of death becomes a natural part of life and takes your emotional stress out of the equation. So if you’re not getting joy out of your PSW work, everything becomes hard another tool that you need to carry an inside smile if your spirit is a lifted and everyone you contact with will have the same reaction you can lift their spirits. I don’t wanna carry on too long so I’ll leave it there, but bring your tools to work and it’ll never become a job, it will just be the love you have to give to others

Psw all this yes its also hard when you try to speak up for the resident you take care of and no one listens until its too late sometimes you have to shut your lip and not say anything and also becareful in work place environment not everyone is nice i want to branch to lpn but afraid of the old saying thrown into the wolves because anywhere you go thats just what happens the people who you work with sometimes watch you fail and not stop to say maybe do it a different way or this is a better way of doing xyz the burn out is real and residents abuse is no joke its not talked about a lot ive been punched a women i worked with was pregnant and got beaten by a resident with dementia she lost the baby unfortunately ive been scratched had to remove knives from a resident had to hide from a resident who was confused and wanting to hurt people on the floor been told to f off some residents are sweet angles when family is there but become bitter when family is not there and take it out on you holidays are sad for them missing family asking where they are if they will take them out of the hospital or ltc and why they are put there it breaks your heart but its worth it you do need to have compassion and heart for the job palliative is hard but you learn to just numb yourself after a few passes and not to get to attached or close but again it is hard because you give care for then during covid they had no one but us you definitely have to ask yourself is this truly a job you want to see yourself in

I have worked as a PSW in the UK for several years and I completely agree with your opinion. Can I ask you one thing please? I’m planning to study a 2 year diploma in human services in Canada. Can this be sufficient to get a job as PSW in Canada, instead of taking a 1 year PSW certificate program?
