  • You’ll miss a bunch of great information, but if you want to jump directly to the tasting notes:
    Blanco is at the 4:03 mark
    Reposado is at the 8:47 mark
    Añejo is at the 14:00 mark
    I'm not one to usually reach for a celebrity endorsed spirit, but after tasting the new Teremana line of tequilas, I thought I'd share them with you. The celebrity behind this brand is the famous wrestler and now actor, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. From what I've seen, he seems to really be invested in the tequilas (and not just literally). Starting with the name, "Tere" refers to the soil/earth, and "Mana" comes from the Polynesian/Samoan cultures and means sacred or spiritual. Each of these tequilas begin with Highland grown agaves that are baked in stone ovens before being shredded by a roller mill. The juices are then fermented in open tanks before finally being distilled in their handmade copper pot stills. The Blanco just gets proofed down before bottling. The Reposado is rested in ex-bourbon barrels for probably about 6 months (I couldn't find an exact length), and the Añejo spends 1 to years in those barrels. All are bottled at 80 proof and their pricing is very reasonable - $30 for the Blanco, $33 for the Reposado, and $40 for the Añejo.

There you get to watch my videos before they're released on my UA-cam channel! Currently, I’m releasing a new review every 2 weeks (on Thursdays) first on Patreon, and then 2 weeks later it goes up on UA-cam. This allows me to use my Patreon channel as a launch platform - giving my Patrons that 2-week advantage. You’ll also be able to access to the large private add-free review library (that aren't available on my UA-cam channel), get bonus content/videos, be able to message me directly, and be eligible for giveaways. But regardless of where you’re watching, I want to thank all of my viewers! It’s that combination of my Patrons and the UA-cam ad views that have allowed me to keep my independence and self-purchase the bottles I review. By doing so, I hope you feel safe in knowing you’re getting my 100% unbiased and honest opinions.
    As of December 2021, my current bottle count is over 2,600. I am a Certified Specialist of Spirits and have also been accredited by the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT). I've been actively collecting for more than two decades and what started as a small basic home bar has transformed (with the help and understanding of my wonderful wife) into this collection and career. Speaking of my career, our new “Saints Alley Bourbons” are on most Total Wine shelves and they've been popular! We just finished bottling Batch 2, and given my knowledge and high standards, you know I’m working hard with my team to keep giving you some amazing releases! Thanks for watching and remember to please drink responsibly. Cheers!

    I completely agree with you: Artificial flavors completely destroy the essence of a spirit. It would be like putting ketchup on a perfectly grilled prime ribeye steak.

    Nice review as usual. I know some have issues with this Tequila but the Reposado is my go to for a nice margarita. I may try the Anejo as a possible sipper just for fun. I've made quite a few spirit purchases based on your reviews (as well as others) and have been quite pleased. They include G4, Fortaleza, Pasote and Siete Leguas. Thanks for helping me build my spirit collection. Cheers!

    Just finished my 2nd bottle of Teremana Repo (2nd was a gift). I found quite a bit of variation between the two lots. The second bottle was far better, less boozing and tannic. Overall, not a bad pick up that price point, although I find Olmeca Altos is a touch better for less money. I'll give the ROCK credit, he hasn't tried to overly milk the public like with a highly inflated 'celebrity' brand of bad tequila.

    I am not a tequila drinker but my wife makes margaritas and likes to try different tequila. I liked the Teremana neat because I will try a small bit here and there. Her friend brought Clase Azul Reposado once and that was my favorite so far, reminded me of a clove cigarette on the nose.

      If you prefer sweeter vanilla and caramel flavors, maybe try El Padrino from Total Wine. Just know that they do add some agave nectar - so think of it as a dessert style tequila. If you want pure unadulterated tequila, maybe try the Suerte Tequila line. Cheers!

    • @LiquorHound
      @LiquorHound  2 роки тому +1

      I don’t disagree at all, and personally also prefer unadulterated tahona crushed tequilas. That said, I do acknowledge that some tequilas add the agave nectar to create “dessert style” tequilas - and that market continues to grow. They know most people have a sweet tooth and aren’t necessarily interested in the complexity and purity that traditional/additive-free tequilas offer. All that said, stay tuned, as I do have a big additive-free lineup to review very soon. Thank you for the comment and cheers! 🥃

    One of my besties was looking forward to this coming to our market so bad, pretty expensive in Canada and I think it's safe to say he's pretty disappointed with the product. Too bad the Rock's wholesome angle on the marketing here (seemed nice and genuine) fell pretty flat in the final product.

    • @LiquorHound

      It’s starting to sound like it’s been a “batchy” product (some good ones and some not so good). That’s a problem when you’re launching a new brand. Hopefully they’ll get a handle on that soon. Cheers!

      From the batches I’ve tasted, it’s a good tequila (not great, but good). From a few comments on here, there were some rough batches along the way. I’ve run into this myself with other big brands in other spirit categories. I hope they’re getting a handle on their quality control, since “batchy” spirits never do well with consumer confidence. But you never have to worry about my reviews. I buy my own bottles, so they’re always unbiased and honest. Cheers!

    @FrankieMedina1 2 роки тому

    Are you serious? Those are some of the worst made at one of the worst distilleries, that make a ton of shitty contract brands! Diffuser cooked, acid hydrolysis process, meaning cooked in acid using inferior immature agaves, then later additives are added to make it drinkable. Total garbage! For the newbie inexperienced clueless consumer who dont know any better. Artificial AF! WTF!

    • @LiquorHound
      @LiquorHound  2 роки тому

      Well, I haven’t been there myself, so I can only go by what I’ve seen and read online, but from what I can tell, the main plant does have a diffuser, but the smaller sub-plants (with their own NOMs) have their own separate roller mills, ovens, fermentation tanks, and copper pot stills - and don’t use the big diffuser for those brands/lines. So until I can have confirmation otherwise, I won’t spread unproven information. Do I know what diffuser made tequilas taste like compared to tahona crushed? Of course I do. Do I enjoy tahona (or even roller mill) made tequilas over cheap diffuser tequilas? Yes I do. But know that I always try to judge every bottle by itself, and leave preconceived notions aside. I simply go by taste, give the most accurate unbiased tasting notes I can, and let the viewers decide if it sounds like something they’d want to spend their money on. I self purchase 99.9% of the bottles I own/review off store shelves, so I never feel like I owe anyone anything and eliminate the possibility for “hand selected” (better) bottles being sent to me by manufacturers. As for these Teremana Tequilas, the batches I had at our friends home (the first time I tried them) and my own bottles were both good for the money and didn’t have any horrible flaws. There was a slight batch variance as the first lot had more tropical notes than mine (and I’ve heard that other lots have just not been good). To me that doesn’t sound like a diffuser made problem (as they’re consistent at doing what they do). It sounds like a small producer problem where cook/fermentation times and blending skills aren’t perfected yet. I hope this helps explain my position, and I thank you for your comment and being here. Take care and cheers!

    • @LiquorHound
      @LiquorHound  2 роки тому +7

      Well they’re using roller mills and multiple copper pot stills, so a good amount of tequila can be made (just ask Patron). Now I agree, it won’t be at the quality of those that use full traditional methods, but unless I have some actual production numbers, I’m not going to create or spread bad information. What I will do, is give the most accurate tasting notes I can, and let the viewers decide if that’s something they’re interested in (which has always been my goal). Cheers!
