a year ago I had a PC with running an AMD Phenom 2 x4 on an AM3 board I believe and it was shockingly good ! it wasn't a powehouse but for gaming and everyday classic stuff it was working perfectly !
AM2/2+, AM3/3+ and 775 are the best platforms ever made! I just built a phenom system as main PC and it is so nice! Does get bit toasty but nice in cold months. For anything that's not a new unoptomized game, I can't tell a difference between it and newer CPU. Fantastic video!
And the a lot of people don't know but the AM2 - AM3+ platform make amazing Win XP 32 Bit gaming systems with a wide variety of choices and quality of life connections and choices.
Aah the Q9650 would also be a nice upgrade of the core 2 duo. Probably gives you a lot of extra horsepower. I would like to see it compared to the Phenom II.
I thought about that too but I don't have a similar board for it (with usb 3.0 and sata600 ports). I guess I could put it in the $27,73 pc and see how it does in there.
Some would have try if the mobo post before putting it into the case haha. Nice video, reminds me when I was working in a computer repair shop at the time of this beast, around 2007 :D
Add a hot swap SSD bay instead of that card reader since you'll be switching it out a lot, and maybe some sort of mass storage inside for persistent storage
There is AM3/+ processors with dual cores. And to be fair there is Core2quad with DDR3 (OEM mostly but there is some retail with that. USB 3.0 too (have only 1 with that built in and its a single usb 3.0 on the board). Not certain about Sata 3 but plausible. And some can rival the FX series with 771 support (though i'd say FX will probably win most of the time)
@@ex-itguy and i'd keep the core2duo around, can still be a test machine, can test for lower configurations against the Pnenom II, and keep looking for more pcs free or cheap
Is that second PCI-E slot 16x or 8x? Maybe you could try putting that passive GPU in the lower slot and it would get more airflow from the PSU fan. You could also run an nvme ssd card in the other PCI-E slot for fast storage.
The psu fan sucks air from the case, so that won't improve airflow to the gpu in this case. Not sure about the second slot. Not sure if the gpu uses all 16 lanes either (I... I should check that 😅)
5:00 Does having the SSD loose on the PC case causes any problems to the SSD ? Like thermal dissipation of the SSD is OK ? Also i see you are using an SSD without DRAM so are those SSDs worth buying ? Because i am thinking of buying one !
No issues at all with these kind of ssd's. It doesn't require much in terms of cooling. This ssd I had for about 5 years already, similar ones are pretty cheap on sites like Amazon.
@@ex-itguy Thanks a lot for the info ! Now I can just connect the cables to the SSD and leave it loose inside the PC not having to worry about it at all !
i5 first gen has better IPC than the phenom. Also lga 1156 allows you swap in an i7 860 which destroys anything phenom 2 performance-wise, especially when overclocked
The only i5 I have sits in my 2015 MacBook Pro... hard to compare. It seems though that the Phenom II was a faster cpu than the first gen i5. I don't know as I don't have one around to try. :)
Hello. I have a neighbor who is having financial difficulties and I want to give him an old PC that I haven't used for many years so that his son who started some design and editing courses can hand in his homework at home. The PC has an Intel DH67BL motherboard with Intel Core i5 2130 2.90 GHz (second generation), 16 GB of DDR3 RAM at 1333MHz. A friend is going to donate me a 500GB SSD and I have a 1650 Super that I don't use and I plan to include it in the build. The only money I have available for the build will be to buy a second-hand power supply with a 6-pin connector for the graphics card. My question is, do you know if Illustrator, Photoshop, Corel Draw, Premiere Pro, After Effects can be installed on that processor? It doesn't matter if it takes forever to render. It is for someone who started studying and must do some work probably at 720p or maximum at 1080p. The important thing is that he can hand in his assignments. It is not necessary that the software be in its latest version. If I cannot install that software I will not be able to give them the PC as it will only be a paperweight and I do not want to give them false expectations. I have searched in many places but I find contradictory information, some say that they can install the software and other people say that they cannot. I also read that for some programs something called AVX2 is needed which came out after the sixth generation but the second generation has AVX1. If you can clear up my doubts I would really appreciate it. Excuse my English, I had to use Google translate
I wouldn't worry about that too much, I don't have experience with the software you mentioned but the system you describe should be able to run most software just fine. Unless you're doing high end stuff you don't need that much. Why not just try?

It's perfectly capable of running quite a lot indeed! 😃

The €25 pc from the previous video is a core2quad with ddr3, but that one doesn't have usb 3.0 ports.

Leuke video!
Dank je wel!
V-Sync was the reason why the FPS was capped to 60 FPS

unless the SSD is being heavily used then it does not matter since there are no moving parts

yes, phenom cpus was famous for beeing low power comnsumption in idle but eat a lot on high load. But have very good performance.
I recently saw someone in a discord group say that if your system has ddr3 you should throw it in the trash. I wholeheartedly disagree with that haha
