“Considered a "high risk, high reward" weapon due to its high powers but slow firing rate, reload speed, and movement speed, the AWP is one of the most used weapons in the Counter-Strike series.”
More thought went into the back-up iron sights of the Arctic Warfare than into the entirety of some weapons.
@@Shaker626 I think into the zip gun actually went a lot of thought, just really shitty thought :D
@@andreashabeck1155 Or just some shitty execution, i don't know if it was made correctly it would be that bad
@@zikof5646 with an aluminum bolt it actually runs fine. The part that burns is that the stock bolt is polymer.
(Although nothing is fixing the charging system lol)
He forgot to mention that you can bypass the need to work the bolt if you quickly draw your pistol and then reshoulder the rifle. Its weird, a bullet just magically chambers itself.
Dont most guns do that? Really unless someone that doesnt work it should be assumed
British manufacturers just have that easy access to magic tomes smh, but the magic only works if the users are fighting in some random middle eastern town in a 5 man team.
I don't see why it's so wierd.
Switching to your pistol is ALWAYS faster than reloading.
@@georgesheffield1580 in the first games of the counter strike series the equip animation was faster than the animation to cycle the bolt. and the games had no check to see if the bolt was worked since it basically just a 'cooldown' animation between shots and not an actual reload, so youd quickly switch to secondary or melee and then back to the awp to be able to fire again faster. this is no longer the case in the newer entries of the series tho.
Not even a few minutes after the church opens, already thousands flock to hear the gospel of Gun Jesus.
"Hear Ye, Hear ye, the gospel of Lapua: how a very good rifle required a second coming of a more powerful cartridge!"
We heard the Call to Prayer (UA-cam notification) and came to receive our blessing from Him.
Anyone else aware of how Ian’s voice changes when describing a “very nice” trigger?
Had a friend who bought this rifle (well, such a rifle, not this particular one in the vid) and I can honestly say that I understand why Ian sounds like he does. Best trigger ever. And the SuB scope is pure magic.
Forgotten? Only to people who haven't played Counter-Strike.
if you haven't played CS, you technically never forgot about the AWP since you never knew about it.
@@YasserS19
Most of the guns on this channel wouldn't be forgotten if we followed your definition.
*Listening to Ian explain about the 2nd bipod mount* "I guess they can shoot at the occasional low aircraft with that much elevation". *A minute later* "Well, I wasn't far off the mark". An interesting gun.
Damn you youtube, I no longer know how to screw on a suppressor, God I wish i knew. If only there were something similar to screwing on a suppressor that I could use as a reference.
I did learn something today. Never seen or heard of a mirage strap.
that's nothing new. More than 40 years ago, mirage straps were quite common on Hämmerli National 300m Matchstutzer back in Switzerland.
It seems to be the same idea as the handguards fitted to Lee-Enfields, and other rifles, but in a different context. They were fitted to reduce the effect of heat haze rising off the barrel during rapid fire (And to prevent burns, of course.) Modern I.R sensors are so sensitive that barrel heat from one or two shots can 'white out' the device.
When you see this gun in real world, just realize so unreal you can hold this gun steady with only your hands in CS.
To be fair the Arctic Warfare Police version of the gun is shorter and lighter. Games are still pretty unrealistic when it comes down to it, though.
@@riks081 yeah but in CS it's a standard Arctic warfare in all but name
I know this is deadly weapon made for killing but that camo pouch is adorable.
Interesting fact: If you immediately draw and reholster your pistol you actually chamber a round far faster.

I know this gun. It's the one my Russian team mates always want.
i swear this gun got more coverage in Counterstrike than in real life :D
It's because it is a sniper that was adopted by most counter-terrorism units

I know gun Jesus will probably never see this but seriously, Thank you Ian and all who make forgotten weapons possible, your channel is by far one of the most entertaining, informative and wholesome UA-cam content out there, I have watched just about every one of your videos since I was introduced to your channel about a year ago and I always learn something new, again thank you Ian, auction company’s and all who are associated for making this channel possible. all your hard work and proper research has truly enlightened me and made me a far more knowledgeable gun enthusiast!!!👍🏻👌🏻🤘🏻💯.
This weapon is a prime example of a manufacturer thinking of every possible variable a marksman could encounter, an absolutely wonderful and thought through product
Can’t belive a virtual AWP was sold for more money than an actual AWP. (I’m talking about a factory new Souvenir AWP | Dragon Lore that was sold for 68,000$)
Fun fact: Sweden bought a fairly small batch of these; but they have performed excellent ever since. However the limited batch is kinda running out since we can't domestically produce parts for it, so now we have had to (partially) switch over to using the AK4D or when really long range tasks are needed, the AG90 (Barret m82). Great gun, should have bought more.
What a bad ass rifle! Especially for its day. It's amazing what a few British blokes in a shed can knock up.
I did my Norwegian basic training in the fall of 1976, at that time I was going to become a (very) forward artillery observer, what we called "Artillerijeger". We had what was probably the very first Simrad night-vision laser range finder which we used to measure target locations to ~5m precision, which is almost overkill for an 18-gun 155mm battery. The scope was tripod mounted with a huge zoom lens and a big warning sign about not pointing the IR (i.e. invisible) laser at personnel, particularly at night time.
Just as an aside Ian, my brother in law's father was a WWI sniper. He hid in an artificial dead tree all day, only able to slip out quietly at night. Remarkable stuff really.
my grandfather was in the Signal Corps. out of Duluth, Minn. and he always joked that he was far enough away from the action the only person that would get him was your in law! Hey, wait. what side was he on??????:)
Okay, he just giggled a little when he broke that trigger. It really is the simple things in life that bring the most joy.
its like lockhead martin designed a rifle, it has literally every possible thing they could cram into it
I usually find older firearms more interesting, but that's one fine rifle!
I couldn't wait for this video, and now I can't wait for the L115 keep up the great content!
Shot that rifle when I did my military service in Sweden, was designated as the psg-90. From 300 meters you couldn’t miss!
Paul Harrell holds group at 300 yards with an iron-sight shotgun firing 1 oz slugs.
This beast is intended for the 2-3 *kilometre* range.
I know, I wasn’t issued with it but we got to try it from 300 meter that was the longest range on that range. The snipers in the battalion had to have a good collection from 1 800 to earn their mark. I had the Swedish version of the FN FNC. I did make a good grouping on torso targets from 600 meters with iron sights with that baby.
Brilliant! I have been waiting for you to do this rifle.
My favourite sniper rifle has been finaly reviewed!
My life is complete, thank you, very cool!
There is no way anyone has ever forgotten the L118A2, that beast is legendary!
I saw this in my notifications at work and have been looking forward to watching it since then. Great video as always.
I love the way these look. Just serious classic cool.
Sweet, time to learn about the rifle that many fell in love with.
Loving these videos. I never even heard about a "mirage strap" so cool! Keep it up.
Wow, what a beautiful stock. I love the molded in hand grip.
To this day, the L118 is still my favorite sniper rifle.
Interestingly enough, it actually shares the designation 'L118' with the 105mm light gun used by the royal artillery, which sees far more use than the sniper rifle, hence why this rifle is occasionally referred to as the 'L96AW' in British military circles.
Also just got my copy of Steve Houghton's book it is amazing :D
All I could think of when he was talking about the bolt modification was Russel Crowe from Gladiator “Sometimes the frost, it makes the blade stick.
It's weird coming back to some of these old videos before some of UA-cam's policy changes to see the suppressor attachment scenes be blurred...
Because it's definitely hard to figure out how to screw something on...
Une arme extraordinaire. Un vrai confort et une précision démentielle. Dès que je revois ce fusil je pense aux années passées avec lui. Un vrai pote.
Please gun jesus show us the holy grail of Accuracy International: the AS 50
Thanks for that review! As someone who grew up with the first CS Betas as teen this one holds quite a special part in my heart. Just like the PSG1 from Metal Gear Solid.
Fun fact about the mirage strap: if you have a moderator/suppressor it's wise to put something on the suppressor too, because that heats up quite quick and with the larger surface you have quite the mirage after the second if not the first shot.
I've been waiting for this video for a long time. Thanks
ooh I've been waiting on this one! thanks for the great vid, very imformative as always
I love how every time you think he’s done adding accessories, nope, there’s one more. Scope, level, angle indicator, buis, suppressor, two bipod mounts, a thermal imager, a night vision intensifier. I’m surprised it doesn’t have an adapter to mount it to a Bofors carriage.
A mirage strap...wow learn something new multiple times per day on this channel.
As usual, an excellent and thorough presentation.
That is an amazing system, and looks solid and well built.
I always thought how it was cool you could actually just mount a thermal or NVD in front of a magnified sight like that. Even the PVS-14 which isn't made to hold zero in that way, actually functions pretty well despite the offset that the pic rail adapter would add... really cool stuff!!
The swedes adopted it as the PSG-90 btw.
Love your work Sir
You are very knowledgeable when it comes to guns and it is a joy to listen to you.
The Arctic Warfare Magnum has been my dream gun for so long.
Thanks Ian for a great video on a lovely bit of kit. Would be awesome if you got a chance to have a little visit to the range with one, if nothing else but to see the silly, happy grin it would put on your face.
One for InRange TV, me thinks ...
Even though Ian considers himself a poor shot, suffice to say I was truly impressed with how he managed with the Walther WA 2000 ... pretty sure he could make a reasonable group with the L118A1 at 800yrds, and, with enough practice, a 1000yrds shot ...
But I would definitely love to see him shoot the L115A3 ...
@@nigelft Ian's actually a very good shot. Did you see his video where he placed second in an informal competition shooting steel at 800 yards while using an M1917 Enfield and iron sights? Very impressive shooting, indeed.

One thing I can testify for is the trigger on this rifle and how amazing it feels to use. 10/10 would trigger again
Very informative and well presented as ever, roll on the L115.
Wow, what a rifle. Thanks for this.

Great review and a beautiful riffle I also love the colour!
Looking forward to that L115 video; the Accuracy International Arctic Warfare Magnum is an outstanding rifle.
Having seen two videos of these videos on Accuracy International guns, they do seem to have extremely well thought out and high quality designs. Not bad for a company that initially consisted of 'two men in a shed'.
And had to rent a factory to “prove” to the British Army that they weren’t in fact two blokes in a shed.
A friend of mine used these rifles as a Royal Marine sniper, If I recall correctly they used the .338 Lapua. He said they would go out in pairs for literally 4-5 days crawling through gorse bushes with this rife AND their L85A2 personal weapon in a 'drag bag'.
That's the L115. Good rifle. Held a world record for longest shot at one point.
@@JericoLionhearth Yes you are correct - the L115, I asked him (naively) about a .50 cal, but he told me the best sniper round was easily the .338 Lapua. Basically he laughed when I mentioned the .50 cal! (I'm not any type of expert TBH)
@@fitnready4 you don't need to be an expert to appreciate firearms. Please thank him for his service for me.
The l115 in 300 magnum A4 spec has greater range and accuracy than the 338 lap a1-a3 spec lapua but only spec ops have the A4 so far
The original Swedish Psg90 actually came with "Kikarsikte 90" a fixed 10x42 Hensoldt scope. In 2011 the rifle system was modernised into Psg90B and came with a 3-12x50 by Schmidt & Bender.
One of the more interesting things about the Psg90 is the 7,62 sk ptr 10 prick which was a sub caliber bullet catridge.
Beautiful bit of kit..
The only thing it lacks is the ability to make a brew. :)
Remington/Bushmaster ACR!! C'mon even the manufacturer has forgotten this weapon!!
These are just such beautifully designed rifles
Hi ian This is hardly forgotten - it's absolutely *aspirational* ! All the best, Rob
The day has come
The mirage strap is also particularly important in a place that's really cold. I imagine it'd only take a few shots in a Swedish winter to get the barrel hot enough
A mirage strap has nothing to do with changing your barrel, it has to do with preventing a "heat haze" type mirage from forming directly in front of your scope and obscuring your shot. Heat hazes are formed from temperature difference between an object and the air around it, not necessarily the extreme temperature of the object itself.
Great video. Looking forward to the L115 video.
Well done mate! As usual, it is a pleasure to be educated. May be one day you find the time to make a special about the .408 (no.... not a typo....). I would love to see more of this and it is not easy to find information. Ride on!

I already know what the comment section is going to look like

My A2 is an 02 batch, and predates most of those attachments. It also has the original style of steel transit case, and the earlier version of S&B PMII without parallex adjustment to the left. Although my rifle is 17-something years old, the button for the folding stock has only just worn enough to be usable by a normal human thumb - they are usually so stiff that they have to be pushed in with a wooden block or similar.
Incidentally, although the AW has been out of production for many years now, AI did recently make a brand new one-off batch for aficionados.
Alright Ian you convinced me I’ll take two.
Wow this rifle is amazing
That is one hell of a Rifle for sure.....One hell of a smart guy telling you about it....Thanks...Much..!
Thanks for all the great description of this rifle! I thought the AW rifle had flutes on the bolt that ran over most of the bolt length. It's interesting that the anti-freezing flutes were short ones in the area of overall bolt to action contact.
Ahhhh, so nice to see small business flourish! “Two guys in a shed” LTD is the greatest thing ever.
Thanks Ian, what a brilliant weapon. So well thought out. I've never seen the mirage shield feature, however it would make particular sense in its natural environment. Again, well thought out from the outset, so unlike the standard British automatic rifle with all its woes and initial flaws. Sometimes I think the boffins who have been designing weaponry for their army fell asleep at the wheel. The quartermasters must have felt the same shame as the armorers? Post Enfield, I guess since Britain owns H&K a suitable weapon they should be the preferred supplier for the next upgrade?
Man the L96/115 varialts are all pieces of art.
Man, I would absolutely love to own one of these rifles in this exact configuration.

Maybe it would be a nice idea to make a video explaining common sniper cartridges (7.62 NATO, .300 Winchester, 338 Lapua, .50 BMG, etc) and their specific uses in the military.
rolf ski i would love to see that, so far all I know is 7.62 is strictly infantry and has a high velocity whole still being able to inflict alot of damage.
And a second one on some of the more exotic, special purpose sniper cartridges throughout the years. I'm sure there are a ton of weird ones that I've never heard of.
@jad beydoun It can be (and sometimes is) used for sniping, though.
@jad beydoun exactly what i was gonna say XD it's an anti material cartirdge. it's not designed for accuracy. for fucks sake Browning Machine Gun. it was designed for mg's. it's hard hitting but you'll be lucky to hit the broadside of a barn. it weighs SO MUCH and its muzzle velocity is relatively low to its weight making t hard to get any precise long range shots. 338 though. great speed to weight´t ratio and is developed solely for precision at long tange
dont forget 7.62x54r
