I have three Hohner ST59 Professional Strats, Turquoise Blue-Green, Two tone Sunburst (1-Piece Alder Body!) and Black. I play this modell since 1998 and there was never another guitar who could've put her at shame. These guitars are Made in Korea, built flawlessly, have high end parts like graphite nut, Schaller Tuners, Göldo Electronics, micro-tilt like only American made Fender Strats have....a Hohner Professional easily matches an American Elite Strat with no effort.
@@FlorianGuitar85 Thanks for this testimony. I recently got one from Guitar Center for 3 hundred bucks and then spent some bucks on new tuners, nut and pick ups which are now Seymour Duncan Antiquity IIs. It has a dark wood fret board. No where on the exterior of the guitar does it say where it's made. On the back metal neck to body fastener plate, it does have a serial No. though. So, I'll just find out where it's made. Hopefully Korea or USA. I'm a novice. But, coming outta the shop, this guitar is pretty great. It's good to see a good testimony from another musician. Thanks again.
It was my first guitar in 1993 , paid 150$ for it . I always wanted one of them again , I finally found one on line . I’m going to up grade it big time just because!
I owned, from 1992-1998, the same model as demonstrated here. It was my main guitar; I had a homemade Lead One from Fender copy as my 2nd, backup. That had 1 DiMarzio S/D him in the bridge, only pickup. H/T bridge, sealed tuners. But my Hohner ST Special also had sealed tuners. 3 s/c pups. The bridge I had was not a 2 point. 6 in line. Skunk stripe, 22 frets. Bright n chimy pups. It was lt wt. Played well enough. Only thing I did was, in 1996, I replaced the bridge pickup with a Select by EMG SC. Didn't radically alter the sound. By this time, that Hohner became my 2nd; I acquired a MX-Z hot rod Charvel type with a Kahler, Select by EMG (2 sc n a humbucker, bridge). Purple glitter. Got it for $140 new. The Hohner in 92 also for $140, used. Get one if you find one. Recommended!!
I came across this video a little more than a year ago when a family member asked me to keep his HOHNER Professional ST Special with me for sometime and I began to search on the internet for more details about where these particular guitars are made and etc. This time when he gave it, I told him I am not going to give it back to him as I never owned an electric guitar. He already has my Korg PA 500 and a Dell laptop with good configurations. ;) And here I am again watching this video. Mine is 85 model as per the serial no. Thanks for the video
I agree with you - I think they are really good guitars. I had an ST Special S (the solid body version with gold coloured hardware) from 1986 which sounded wonderful, but i found the neck a bit too flat (for me)
Nice video, I'll have to check out your others. I bought a Hohner ST Olympic, at a yard sale, for $50.00. Beautiful guitar, little to no wear. Mine has a humbucker at the bridge, with a 2nd small switch. When I plugged it in..., nothing. Also the pots are very loose, so it will be a project. Serial no. is 8818279. No ID, as to origin. Thanks for the post.
Thanks for your video. I am fond of Hohner Guitars. I have a Hohner Revelation RTS and a L59+L75, and today got a dirty Hohner Special ST. The last one I have to clean/change pickups (bought a couple from GFS ) You are right about the neck. It is very flat ,and this one ned a ajust/ wrong bow.
Yes it's pronounced like "HO- Ner". They also make Trumpets and harmonicas, etc. I had a Hohner St Ferrari as my first electric back in the mid 1980's. Similar to a super strat with humbuckers, a floating temelo system and locking nut.
I just bought a Hohner arbor Mx series se604 off eBay for 85 British.Salmon pink sparkles! 88’ I think. Needs work- cracked pick guard, tuner replacements and LOTS OF CLEANING! 😂 I’m hopeful it’ll be a nice little player after that, I hear good things. Also trying to get hold of a Marlin, same company I think but made specifically for the UK market and distributed from South Wales.
I got one today, looks like same body, colour and neck but mine has HSH and split coils switch. Mine has 88 serial number..so must be from 1988. The guy i bought it from had out the heaviest guage guitar strings, maybe acoustic strings..making the bridge lift. I added another spring and it lowered the action. The pickups sound great..very pleased with my Hohner.. I know as harmonica player, german company..had no idea they bought out great guitars too..
I was given one of these years ago and recently started to remind myself why I stopped playing (fat finger syndrome).. But this one says "Hohner ST Special X" - Can't find any info on that version anywhere. Sounds nice though.
Hi Joseph. Nice video. I have a chance to buy this guitar in very good condition for 225e, but didn't know if these guitars were worth the money. I guess from your video that the price is about right, but they actually play better then they cost?
These are great guitars. I have an '85 I bought in Germany. I'm not a great player but as I've become more knowledgeable about guitars and play more guitars I realize it's a great guitar. My 5 way switch went out and my guitar guy replaced it but it was not the same type of course. He modified the pick guard to accommodate the range of the new switch. Besides that it's original.
I have one my brother bought me through a Sears catalog from about that same time.Like you I'm not exactly Hendrix(Got a white on white because of him),but still have it.All original except for the tuners.Funny that my only problem is with the 5 way switch. I have to give it a wiggle and hope that the guitar doesn't cut out on me.
I moved to Wa State in March of 1992 for school. Worked a gas station job and made a friend. Fellow guitar player. He owned a tuxedo B/W Hohner Stratocaster. I found a blonde one just like this one in the video. Excellent shape. $140 used. Played it for 8 years. I don't remember what happened to the guitar. I might've sold it. Foolishly. Great instrument. Ah regrets..
i've got about a dozen hohner guitars. They're my favourite brand. Prince's most used guitar was a Hohner Telecaster copy, so good enough for Prince then theyre good enough for anybody
Great video! Keep making more of these! I found one of these exact guitars for sale for $75, roughly in the same shape with minimal wear and tear. What are your thoughts? Should I drop the money on this guitar and add it to my collection? or pass? for $75, I can't go wrong, am I right? Would love some feedback! Thanks!
@@derYosh886 I agree, although sometimes having a trem system isn't great for a first timer. Some of the Ibanez Gio guitars are decent starter electrics, especially the ones that have a hard tail design or no trem. They generally are comfortable to play and the action can be set low which is a plus for first timers. The sound isn't great from the pickups though, and would probably be much better on the Hohner.
b gilley Yep! By no means I wanted to say that the Ibanezes suck. They have been a great start for thousands of players including me. I just think that you get more of your moneys worth with the old Hohners IF(!!!) you know what you are looking for :)
@@derYosh886 for sure, I've owned a few Hohners over the years, and they are usually great guitars at very cheap prices for the most part. It's getting harder to find ones in good condition at good prices though, same with Hofner and Framus, which also made fantastic guitars if you know what you're looking for. My favorite acoustic guitar is a 1968 Hofner and it sounds and plays phenomenal.

In your experience, which one is better, the ST-Special or the ST-59?
