Considering that biggest terrain obstacle in Poland is rivers, lakes and marshes ablity to swim is quite handy.
It is must have, this also was one of the reasons why anders was trashed.
Definitely agree
True. Also, the war we're planning for will be fought in the northeastern quarter of our country which features a lot of lakes (Masuria), marshes (Polesie), a major river (Bug) and a dense forest (Białowieża).
There's little urban terrain there, most of it is woodlands with a lot of water.
I am one of the original engineers, who developed the USA LAV vehicles. The original LAV-1 chassis version was actually subcontracted to a garbage-truck company. However, due to severe welding deficiencies with this company, General Motors decided to bankrupt them for contract failure, and took over the manufacturing itself. These LAVs evolved through many generations, with many different drive systems, different weapons systems (including TOWs, Amramms, 105s, 75s, 40s, 30s and the original 25s). The original hydraulic turret was terrible, so noisy that operators became temporarily deaf. The newer electric turret solved most of these problems, with silent mode, but not all. These LAVs, now Strykers, were always meant to be LIGHT weight, and easily transportable, inside a C130 cargo plane. Their armor is deficient for any cannon above 40, and they cannot survive overhead drone attack from anything above a 2-kilo warhead. All of the additions to the Strykers have made them so heavy, and non-transportable, that they can only be used in low-grade conflicts. The slat-armor alone adds multiple tons of weight. Overhead slats and chain-link add another two+plus tons. Any side armor makes these vehicles so heavy, that the tire systems are failing. You, in Poland, are no repeating all of the development horrors, that we did, during our early development of these wheeled vehicles. Their only benefit is the good reliability of the chassis and motors, but even so, the maintenance is difficult, when the added armor features are emplaced. Poland needs to look at this development history, so it does not fall into a black-hole of bad features.
The floating version has some reserve capacity for greater armoring if it loses the ability to float. However, a heavy IFV based on the K9 chassis, IFV K21 and the ZSSW-30 turret is being designed. Polish budgets are many times smaller than American ones. In the case of EFV to Anders it is 15:1. Unfortunately, when Borsuk was launched, a purely heavy version based on Anders was not implemented in parallel. Hence, the assimilation of Korean K21 is currently being considered. The very good effects of the M2 Bradley IFV on the battlefield in Ukraine confirm the need to have a heavy IFV as well as a lighter floating vehicle. When it comes to ERA armor, PANGOLIN is a development of ERAWA, but the question remains about its use in the case of thinner IFV armor - whether the explosion of the cubes will not kill the crew through flying fragments. Trials are being carried out with plastic tracks. In general, however, Badger is not cheap. APC Rosomak (Patria AMV) has a very good american Mk II Bushmaster chain gun, but the armor is too weak for a wheeled infantry fighting vehicle. The car is high and the soldiers are aware of this limitation. However, it turns out that Rosomak works well in Ukraine.
The Korean LAV is essentially a clone of the US version, as far as the turret targeting electronics. We transferred this technology to the Koreans decades ago, and also the design of the US M1 Abrams electronics when we did the KIT-1 tank design for them (Korean Indigenous Tank-1). Both those combat vehicles are as capable as the US versions, as far as targeting, accuracy, and shooting on the move. A good choice for Poland, as long as repair parts can be locally supplied or substituted. The mechanical hardware is fairly easy to replace, but the electronics are almost impossible to repair in the filed. F16s and similar platforms do this in depots, nowhere near any combat zone, usually some other country. Difficult to ship back to Korea, for these. Must have local repair capability.
I'm no expert by any means but maybe Borsuk's weight won't be a problem since we're probably trying to prepare for a local conflict with Russia. Your army on the other hand gets involved in many places overseas so the ability to transport these vehicles with c-130's (love these planes) is a must.
@@Nat_BLSK See above comments, addition for you, about heat signature. This is a major problem with the M1, ridiculous high heat signature, due to turbine (plus high horsepower). We did a covert project where this was addressed, but the cost and complexity of implementing a cooling system for a ground vehicle makes it totally impractical. The design was a total nightmare, and also the "dust control" system did not work at all. Ended up with the dust-collection system spraying dust all over the inside of the vehicle and engines. The theory was that you could lay it back down on the ground, after you passed by. For heat, you can store it in the fuel or chassis, but if you are trying to suck up tons of road dust, that just will not work for a high-speed vehicle. PassItOn.
Borsuk pięknie się reprezentuje👍brawo Polska💪🇵🇱💪💪💪💪💪
Fun fact, the Borsuk has those amfibious abillities because of the bwp.
Every time there were talks about armoured vehicles the army said „but can it swim like the bwp”
Much of the information in this video is false. Step by step: The chassis is a 100% Polish construction, it does not contain any elements from the K9. There are rumors that the design of the heavy version of the Badger (without the ability to overcome water obstacles) may use some suspension elements from the K9, but this is not certain. Another matter - Borsuk was developed by a consortium of HSW and the private company WB Electronics (WB was largely responsible for the ZSSW-30 turret). Another inaccuracy. Unfortunately, the engine is not a Polish design. Moreover, today there was information that all tests have been completed (successfully) and a report is being prepared. As soon as it is revealed, a contract will be signed for the production of over 1,000 pieces of this weapon. Things that weren't in the video: 1. Resistance to anti-tank mines Borsuk has better than K2 tanks. 2. In field conditions, you can easily change the gun to one with a caliber of 40 mm. 3. If my memory serves me right, the entire IFV was developed for ridiculously little money and the entire work cost ~55 million Euro
Well, you need to be honest here too. It doesn't have any borrowed design from K9, however suspension itself was... heavily inspired by K9 hull. Chassis itself is quite origial however - being welded from HHA steel, which is generally not a common choice due to difficulty of working with this material. No way around it though - armor itself on Borsuk is thin, being like 17-20mm all around. Considering how it was constructed though - it is quite original too.
Two HHA plates, internal and external around 10 mm each. Seprated by 40mm foam spacing. And indeed tests are showing that it can stop legacy soviet 30mm APDS, but it degrades fast with repeated impacts. Basically it will stop more than it technically should but only for a few rouds.
Engine is not Polish, however powerpack was designed and integrated in Poland. Only thing it changes is that we can modify what engine and transmission goes there quite freely, and there is room for slightly larger powerpack if need be in future.
Resistance to mines is also quite interesting solution - a sort of reactive v-shaped plate at bottom, which moves up under pressure from explosives, helping to disperse energy over wider area. Prevents penetration of crew compartment against TM-62 anti-tank mine which currently blows up any Russian vechicle in Ukraine. Generally tanks don't bother with mine protection much and K2 is no exception here, it's not really a point to brag about.
40mm Swap is a manufacturer gimmick, it will never be used. It's not worth it. That 40mm is not a NATO 40mm, but 40mm "Super forty" which generally has less kinetic energy than 30mm, and nobody produces ammunition for it in meaningful quantities. Just something americans tried to sell to make buyer fully dependant on one source of ammunition for little real gain. So best this " capability" is simply forgotten.
The problem is that Poland does not seem to have enough industrial capacity to manufacture those vehicles at scale. It will take too much time to cover Polish Army's demand for those much needed vehicles.
@@panjacek6674actually we have a lot of old factory buildings we could easily adapt as military factories with enough money
@@panjacek6674 We had a big military industry back in the days actually (manufacturing T-55's, Mi-2's, PT Twardy's, etc. We just didn't really invest in it after fall of USSR because we didn't see any need.
@@panjacek6674 I mean it will take a while. Likely a decade. Declared ability is up to like 60 a year. Which is a lot, but it's still 600 within 10 years. Including specialised platforms, could be that it will take 20 years to fully get rid of BMP-1.
So ... there is room for another type of IFV.

Borsuk has a big sense - army in need to cross a river can deploy Borsuks ahead and secure the other side of a river then mobile bridges can be deployed to move tanks and other units. Clever thinking with this amphibious IFV!

Amphibious capabilities of Borsuk are much needed. Unlike in the Western Europe, Polish rivers are crossed by relatively few bridges - there is no bridge every few hundred meters! That's why western experts are so wrong when questioning this design. Armour piercing capabilities of modern infantry weapons makes additional armoring on IFVs useless. It should protect against random bullets, grenades but not pretend to be a safety barrier.
I appreciate the fact that you've put both Metric and Imperial systems. Good work, keep it up.
Poles know what Putin is capable of.
It is the West, especially the USA and the UK, that are the common enemy of Belarusians, Poles, Russians and Ukrainians, and as long as we do not understand this obvious truth, our nations will be played against each other. The conflict in Ukraine is the final confirmation of the end of the global American hegemony.
A do czego jest zdolny?! Uważam, że nie Putina powinniśmy się bać.
Currently, the first 17 models have already been produced. They were forwarded to selected military units so that the army could express its final opinion.
It's important to notice that Poland's main concern is defending eastern border from Russia. The weakest spot on that border is what is called a "Suwalki Gap". If you look closer at that spot you can see Masuria, "a land of a thousand lakes" as we call it on Poland. Next line of defence is Vistula river as well as many other rivers in the eastern Poland, that are the only geographical advantages that Poland has. This is why it is so important for Polish IFV's to have amphibious capabilities.
Something is ringing out there somewhere, the Suwałki gap in a straight line is a myth
but if you go through the lithuanian forests to Königsberg close to a Polish border, in Vilnius they will be trying to figure out what to do next in +6-8h after invasion unless you see an armoured-mechanised rus div doing 20 km/h through a swamp on T-54 :)
There is an urban legend, that Polish military did not want to work with Polish companies so much for some reason, they set up ridiculous requirements that any other model could not meet, and in a twist of fate the Polish companies came up with ideas to meet those "f*** off" demands. I don't remember if this was said about Borsuk as a whole, or only about ZSSW turret (which i believe is used also on wheeled armoured transport vehicles)

@@warmianinshoty338 i highly doubt that the fire control systems are comparable to those of ANY tank since they pretty much have different objectives to begin with. leopard 2a5 fcs is focussed on first hit and longer range engagements which are just irrelevant to an ifv since its not operating in comparable distances with its machine gun. additionally german fcs are 100% build around data transfer to a general data center thats used for coordination in "Kampfverband" usage which is a unique german strat thats used since ww1 and which isnt used to this extend by any other army worldwide since considered a "bad strat" by the americans. so still i cant see the relevant advantages this turret gives over any other heavy armed ifv.

It needs a Trophy system that can defeat incoming anti-tank missiles and Kamikaze drones from the sides as well as from above. This should have been one of the lessons from Ukraine.
Ditto US vehicles and NATO vehicles.
To my knowledge the Trophy-like systems still only protect from side attacks.
And I think that Trophy-like systems need to be be able to eventually defeat incoming tank rounds and artillery rounds. It will be expensive, but not as expensive to losing vehicles to drones and artillery rounds that cost only several thousands of dollars.

Borsuk is basically a coffin, an easy target to hit.
BMP-1 is 7' in height.
Borsuk is 11' in height.
The Polish have been invaded by the Russians, so many times, they don't want them there, Poland is a dynamic country with a lot of I. T smarts.
This is one nice "metal box"
Armored forces updates are all well and good, but the key to everything's survival is the Polish air forces. I hope they are putting equally massive efforts into developing effective air dominance forces. If you control the air, you control the ground, in that order.
the tower is also of Polish production, it is called ZSSW 30
Great movie about Borsuk and you must do more reserching information about this polish construction i give subscribe on youtube and greetings from Poland.
Huta Stalowa Wola where Borsuk was built translates as Steel Will Forge, a forge that is made of (or with) will as strong as steel..
Thx for the good News.

Borsuk is an "additional" replacement, and not a full stop replacement.
Right now, BMP is being replaced by KTO Rosomak.
excellent
looks badass
Badass? Dupa borsuka.
These water crossing was forgotten until Kursk happened. but some country had a tank for Swimming in Sea water. Sure it isn`t a Gun Boat but u see in kursk it is needed. a bridge building Tank and his bridge getting Destroyed by drones and rockets while stationed. a moving target or many moving targets at the same time hasn`t this problem this much. these problems was in Kursk and also in Cherson....across the river. to build a bridge head. a country do not need all IFV to swimm but some of these have to have this feature.
That's a good badger

It looks like that cannon can tear some things up.
Swimming capability means this IFV is relatively light, it gives ability to be deployed in places where more heavy IFV could not be deployed, for example a bit quaggy terrain.
Borsuk chassis was not designed based on K9, it is fully original design.
Ministry of defense requirement was that front armor should resist armor piercing ammunition from 30mm BMP-2 cannon. This requirement was achieved by placing engine in the front... basically front armor will be penetrated and engine will stop 30mm round... i have no idea why ministry of defense accepted that, this is mobility kill, crew will escape, and vehicle will be out of the fight.
How it can be counted as being resistant to 30mm ammunition?
Basically, ballistic protection is not sufficient, and everything else is excellent.

Polskie to najlepsze
The heavy version can stop a 30 mm but you are looking at 45 tons or more dependent on the add on blocks. The light amphibious is barely able to stop a 12,7 mm at most angles of attack. But it will all be sorted for civilians once the design becomes public knowledge.
Well its not a question anymore if Polish IFV and APC should be able to swim, they both can :D There will be another type of Heavy-IFV that will support Tanks and this one will not swim. It will be something like Israelin Namer - very heavily armored one. Work is under progress (at least 5-10 years, but in that time the Industrie has to build almost 2000 IFV-Borsuk and APC-Rosomak that are so so needed).
Imagine if they would name it Bober
Bober 500 MM

Yo we already have bober otherwise known as kleszcz 😂
the engine is not polish - this is Rolls Royce design - its relatively new (so potentially higher risk), but compact and powerful power-pack (engine + transmission). True - Amphibious requirements were and are wide debatable - even in Poland, but this is some of PL military traditional requirements. Its because lot of polish territory is cuted by loads and loads of rivers. As far as I know the protection level is somewhat modular and varies between Stanag 4 (swimming) and Stanag 6 (not capable to swim). Good Video.
Looks promising. The occupants' protection level concerns me a little. Active service will tell.
100% Poland technology.
As a Pole I can say that this program of developing Borsuk takes too long time and why they aren't huge orders in fabrics? Politics from PO and PIS are killing the polish military, should be convicted of high treason
I think if we can change this to electric vehicle then it will be perfect to drive every day to grocery store for shopping.
*Eight* 81mm smoke mortars "in two banks of six"?
Something must have gotten lost in translation... Because 8 is not two times 6 in my book.

If the World had even heard of it.
*OMG I am so SHOCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*
We need Poland tech tree to war Thunder
Its strange that the Russian based AFV and IFV are all very low profile but the people that are supposed to ride in them actually sit on the top as there are issues with the armour
They need to swim, they will be operating in a land of 1000 lakes. Just take a look on north east polish territory.

Where is the anti-drone defense system? It's essential today.
NATO can into ECM, but these toys are too prrreeeecious to export where ruzzians could capture them. another day, another world shocking thing...
Poland is undergoing army modernisation, because most of the older vehicles were compatible with Ukrainian army and wer given ore sold to Ukraine. Thy found there proper use :D Most older polish tanks like PT91 is deep modernisation of Russian T72 and their live time was nearing the end. I think around 360 of them are fighting in Ukraine. The modernisation of (IFV)BWP Borsuk to replace obsolet BWP-1 and BWP-2 was planed since Years. This Vehicle is now ready to go and the change will by only faster. And the rest old BWP-1 will by used in Ukraine ore as parts. Other very important army vehicles like (APC)KTO Rosomak, (SPA) Krab and Transport platform Jelcz is already in his 3 gen. were produced in last 10 years. Update are already in modern Nato kompatible. Also many smaller vehicles were bought in recent Years. Poland still lacks many crucial abilities, and has his neads. Polish naval is producing new Frigates but that program will takes some more Years, Polisch Airforce bought now the F35 but the first will be operational in 2026 and already Polisch F16 need upgrade to new version. The antiair defence is waiting vor next delivery from USA (its a nice mixed USA-Polish system)... production takes 10 yers and we will get the rest firs in 4 years. The best part is that the politics sees now army modernisation ans years long process, and is good to see modern military equipment. I think in around 3-4 years Poland will get his maximal Power peek, where many of this equipment will be operational and ready to use.
I want one.
