Windshield Wipers Won't Move But Motor Runs or Slapping Wipers
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 вер 2024
- Windshield wipers slamming hard, thumping, slapping hard or hitting windshield frame, do not work and motor is running are all possible problems with the windshield wiper transmission linkage or bushings.
Typically there are two rods, called linkage, on a windshield wiper transmission. There are plastic bushings on the ends of the links. The action of the transmission causes the bushings to wear and eventually fail.
For some models, replacement bushings can be purchased. The Honda Civic in the video did not have after market bushings available. The entire linkage was replaced.

this video is 3 years ago but this lesson is very valuable, it helped me read how the wiper link is driven by a dynamo motor. However, as a beginner, I had a hard time disassembling the wiper link on my old Hyundai Accent, when I opened the nut the bolt broke because it was eaten by rust. I believe the damage is in the bush link. Best regards, I'm from Indonesia.
Thanks for watching the video and taking time to write the note. It's my pleasure to help someone in Indonesia.
Very informative thank you, I replaced my Windshield Wiper Motor, had this same problem. Now, I need a new Wiper Transmission.
You are welcome.

Best wishes for the repair, Daniel. Thanks for delivering those pizzas!

Thanks middle of a snowstorm and this just happened!
Another great video. You make repairs seem so easy.
Hey Tony! Thanks for watching the videos and the compliments. Have a great day, Tony.
This was an easy car repair. I had been ignoring the passenger wiper hitting the cowl at the bottom of the windshield for some time. It was easy to get to the wiper transmission & remove it. The shorter linkage's bushings were so worn, I'm surprised that the linkage didn't pop off.
You saved me so much stress and money with this one video. I can't tell you how grateful I am. Thank you.
You are welcome. I try to do good things with the channel. For sure the world needs more kindness.
Thanks for the info. My 2018 f150 started doing this recently during a rain storm. Will check this out now
You are welcome. Best wishes for the repair.
My honda accord has this exact issue and it was the bushing on the transmissiom arms
Thanks for commenting, Car geek 101. I wondered if Honda was using the same system on other models.
Where did you find the bushings? My Honda Accord’s wipers just stopped working, but I can hear the motor, so assuming I have the same problem.
THANK YOU SO MUCH YOUR AMAZING, I’ve had so much trouble trying to figure my problem out and this video was so helpful ❣️❤️❤️❤️
You are welcome. It's nice to hear that the video helped you figure out the problem. Have a great day!
To those who wish this were in the title: it is stated in the video this is on a 1999 Honda Civic
Are you saying that there is a new mechanical concept for windshield wipers?
ALWAYS use a G-Clap and oversized Socket to fit plastic end to the Spindle. No Pliers or Hammer...
Thanks for the suggestion, Tony, that's better than the pliers, though they didn't do any damage in my case. I didn't think to use a clamp (I think you missed the M?) and a socket.
Excellent video
Wonderful video. You have a new subscriber💯

I need to know if its my fuses that are the problem. I have a 2005 Buick Lacrosse that the wipers won't turn on.
Clear and concise. Thanks
You're welcome!
grateful for all this information so fascinating!!!
It's my pleasure to help, Jacobo!
Gonna give this a try.
03 Lincoln navigator, hope it works with the model
Best wishes for the 03 Lincoln Navigator repair. If it's already broken, you might as well take a shot at it.
What if I changed the motor and the linkage. They work fine, fluid linkage movement, I see both gears that you place the wipers on spinning but wipers don't move as soon as I put them on.
Maybe you are not seating the wipers on the gears properly? If you grab the gears without the blades on them do they seem to have enough resistance to move the blades?
@@Know-How-Now you are correct, I’m not seating them properly and I have no markings to go buy. It’s strong enough to move it because I did get them to move but they were hitting the bottom on return. I keep reseating and reseating with no luck so I set an appointment with the VW dealership. I’m pretty sure they have tricks of the trade. It’s hard for me to go to the dealership because I’ve completed many more complicated DIY projects only to get my but kicked by wipers 😂
There might be a forums for your model VW. You might try getting on one of those and ask about your wipers problem or just do a search within the forum for "wipers". Someone may know the answer. Unfortunately, car repair has become too complicated for a lot of DIY. I am still hanging on the the Civic in the video for the reason that I can fix a lot of the easy problems myself. I am planning to give it up the Honda in two years and will be sad to see it go.
@@Know-How-NowHonda is a great car. I own a CRV. I think maybe the spline on the wiper arms are stripped. So I’m ordering new wiper arms and they don’t even have a spline. We’ll see how it goes. The dealership was too busy so it must be a DIY sign😂
@@Know-How-Now Thankyou
So Helpful
Thanks at least i know what the problem is.
You are welcome. Happy New Year!
very nice
Thanks for the compliment, Adam.
How to install toyota tazz wipermoter
My wipers have made thumping noises ever since I had a garage replace the wiper motor about a little over a year ago. I have a 2009 Toyota Camry. When I recently removed the wiper arms and checked out my motor and linkage they looked good and worked for a few minutes and then just stopped altogether. I checked the fuses three times recently and they are good. I just installed a brand new Switch and wipers moved about one inch when I tried it out. So why won't my windshield wipers turn on? Any ideas? Thanks 👍🙏
I'm not familiar with a 2009 Camry. There are likely repair forums for that popular model Toyota. Look for one of the forums. The question may already be asked/answered.... it not join the group & ask.
@@Know-How-Now Thanks for the tip! 👍
Im here because i was the victim last bight in the rain just had to give out in the rain smh
I just replaced my wiper motor. The motor moves the linkage arms, but when I put the arms back they don’t move on the windshield. Any ideas?
