Saw them at Interlochen School of the Arts last week. Fantastic trio...virtuoso performances and outstanding musicianship and interpretation. They have so much fun when playing it is infectious.
A very welcome addition to the Orange Blossom repertoire! A great deal of energy and connection to railway sounds despite the likelihood that these fellas have never heard a real train sing. I especially liked what seemed to be a blend of jazz riffing that mimicked the spontaneous and surprising change in pitches of a real train and also the touch of classical in honor of the beauty of those pitch changes. These guys are soooo amazing! They are my favorites, and they're so nice! I met them a few years when they came to Griffin and they gave me some tips for practicing my violin. Two thumbs up!!!!!
Phillystarlight - I agree! Met him at a Suzuki Institute - trying to get a local bass player to get interested in Suzuki - he just invited him to jam right on the spot - the two took off...very nice guys and humble and purposeful in all that they do. Kids can look up to them. Gotta' hear their National Anthem at the Colts game...catch it on You Tube!
There's a "The Farmer and The Duck" (Chris Thile & Edgar Meyer) quote happening around 1:10. Please someone tell me I'm not the only dude nerdy enough to notice that!
It's interesting watching the three of them play; it's rather like watching children jumping around in a bouncy castle. However, the performance is one of the worst versions of Orange Blossom Special I have ever seen. Nothing in the song is recognizable. There are three distinctive parts of the song that mimic the sound of the train whistle, the ringing of the bell, and the "ch ch" sound of steam escaping from the pistons. None of these elements are recognizable in their mangled version. Maybe the three of them are nice guys and maybe they are really proud of themselves but their music leaves a lot to be desired.
They are SO DAMN GOOD! Just saw them last night for the first time. So good, so funny, seem so nice and they just rock the house.
Sweet Mother of the Messiah, that was amazing!

I don't understand how the people in the audience are sitting still through this amazing knee-slapping performance!? Amazing!
I just fell in love again.
