@@anonymousidea9119 imo the main advantage of TV mode is the higher clock and improved graphics thanks to unrestricted power draw. It might be possible to display undocked graphics on a TV (if they modify the hardware to have AV out), but at that point might as well have it on the portable screen.
@@ark14700 well I dont think it's not possible to overclock at all, as the normal switch is overclockable in handheld mode and the switch lite isnt much different. You could likely get more than just a handheld experience if you could dock the lite, as then heat would be the main issue vs heat and battery loss among other things in handheld. I guess graphics are a part of it but I think some of the bigger games like BOTW deserve to be played on a TV even in lower res. And there are ways to send AV to a TV without hardware mods for example video capture on the 3ds without a capture card but I'm not sure if it's possible on the switch lite or worth doing. There could still be ways to send video through that usb c and it was just disabled but you would think they would remove all the video out stuff entirely... its yet to be seen.
From early teardown photos it seems, that they removed hdmi/usb multiplexer IC, so it's not just the software. But there are other differences on MB layout, we'll know more once someone gets hi-res photos.
I remember seeing a teardown of the lite vs regular, the switch lite is flat out missing the video output processor to use the USB for output. Hardware limitation.
The reason the lite has the outcove (notch) is that it's used for more than the dock. I have an adjustable charging stand that uses the notch. It's to hold it in place.
I have a great idea. A special dock made for the switch lite. Has the same inputs and outputs besides the hdmi and looks just like the original Nintendo switch dock but with a "lite" added to the logo.
It couldn't be the same form factor as the original dock though because that one covers the screen (very poor design if you ask me because it has a tendency to scratch the screen) if you wanted to make one for the switch lite it would need to be a tabletop model similar to something like the Jumpgate dock. It probably also wouldn't really be right to call this a dock since it doesn't connect to HDMI a better descriptor would be a charging enabled USB hub.
I like that it retains the docking groove. I think they probably kept it for the 3rd party stands, like the mini stand you displayed it on. Admittedly, I own that same one (especially ‘cause it is so space efficient). I don’t think I’d even consider getting a Switch Lite if it didn’t have that groove. ^^;

Nintendo most likely only designed the Lite (and its heat management) to deal with the lower clocked portable mode, so forcing it into docked mode would overheat it.
I would imagine it's not a software lock but an actual hardware one. Usb-c is just a plug, there's no real standard as to what can be sent through it. The Switch gives HDMI, an unconventional USB-PD and regular old USB 3.0 out of it's type-c port, the lite ditches the hdmi alt-mode, presumably on a hardware level
Probably not because inside the switch lite, they took away the thing that pairs the switch to the tv. Nintendo is always doing weird ish. No one asked for a switch lite.

If you're planning on getting this which I would look into getting one that's suitable for you for example if you aren't really looking to play on your TV the switch light would be for you and the switch light actually has a whole bunch of color variety

The dock connectors on the lite: “It should have been removed.” well, yes, unless they planned years before to have a special dock and the feature was just cancelled
I think they really dropped the ball with the switch lite. It should be lower price but if you wanted to "upgrade" to get full experience you can buy a dock separately and joycons with the controller grip bundle, which would add up to the full price of a standard switch. It just makes more of an entry level switch with the option to pay more if you wanted to later on.
This is one of the things that is making the decision on which version of the Switch to get my daughter very difficult. I kinda hope someone makes a 3P accessory that allows connecting to a TV.

The alcove that is in the lite may as well be used for a charging stand dock for easy plug and play. Can be compatible with the regular switch too

The alcove wasn't removed because a lot of stands also use it to keep the switch (lite) stable.
