people are completely missing the point of this scene. Tommy wasn’t trying to test her to see if she would remain loyal to John. He KNEW Lizzy wouldn’t turn down the offer of sex for money, and intended to break Lizzy and John up so that he could have John marry a Lee and form an alliance. this was not out of compassion for his brother, it was manipulative and ambitious and he used both lizzy and john

Many women when they learn of any of your weaknesses use them against you. Lizzie tried to accept Tommy's weaknesses with him, as a trusted ally. That is why he kept sleeping with her and later married her. He knew she would have his back no matter what. The greatest gift a woman can give a man is unwavering trust and devotion, second to a having his child. Lizzie did all of these things, Tommy just wasn't accepting this truth as he was emotionally stunted...

Even the first time I saw this, I always saw this as a bit of jealousy. He's always liked and been possessive of Lizzie, even if he wasn't head over heels for her like Grace, and consistently ensures no one else gets her. I'm sure he knew John wouldn't be happy with her as well but this served a dual purpose for him. Imo.

With changretta, she was working for him already and the changrettas were adversaries and a possible way of getting compromised. one of the things that made this show so great is how difficult it is to understand tommy, both in the moment and in hindsight.
