I thought when you cut the tape with the saw and had your fingers there if it binded on the tape it could of thrown your hand into the blades You don't want to go threw life with one hand. A zip cut on a grinder would be safer than the saw! Peace and love!

I can’t see anything wrong with playing with tools, I’m a teaching assistant who used to run a gardening club and work in reception class, we always use adult tools for kids in our school and supervise them, no problems. The best thing you can do is be first aid trained to deal with any problems. I’ll be amazed if I ever meet a child without a bruise from walking let alone taking further risks. Life happens by learning. Also children’s toys and tools are expensive and poor quality and usually end up in the rubbish dumps. Kids want to be like their parents and use the real deal, it’s fun! X

Safety tip time. When scraping/chiseling out glazing, wear safety eye wear, preferably ones that seal against your face and forehead as compound chips or embedded broken glass can fly into your eyes. It can fly around normal safety glasses and into eyes. It was nice to see Ashley have ear muffs on at least. Your barn is looking really great. You 2 do very good work. Doug, you once said that this type of work "is not our first rodeo", and it shows. You know what you are doing and are versatile with the tools. I was wondering if your fingers were going to meet the blade when cutting the tape roll. But you know, I think most tool users, including myself, have at times here and there have taken chances and put ourselves at risk. Its ALWAYS nice to see the kids in your vids, and my wife now stops what she is doing to come watch your video with me, as she did with this one.. Another fan.....yaaayyyy. Protect your eyes and ears. You only have 2 of each.
I normally wear safety glasses for these types of jobs but this time I just didn't. It wasn't as bad as it looks though, the lighting may have made it look worse than it may have been. We try to be safe but sometimes...you know. Cutting the tape was a bit of a cringe moment for sure.
Cut many things on the crosscut saw. Tell you the truth I had to close my eyes when you cut the roll of foil tape. That old broke down barn is looking very good. Most of the time getting the work done is more importan then filming I know you two work very hard making your place your home.
Whoa the windows turned out great! We had to use plexi glass for our sky light. A tree came down on our house. Went right thru the first layer of the sky light. I love and hate these trees. We had one fall on the house....some damage, but the home owners covered it. I can't wait to find out what the news is!!!!!! I'm sitting on pins on needles. Love your story. LOL UGH!!

As someone who worked in home renovations when i was younger, watching this video made me uncomfortable. Using with a box cutter without wearing a leather glove on your free hand is unnecessarily risky, and cutting the roll of tape with a miter saw could have resulted in a serious, permanent injury. Most injures happen late in the day when people are tired and in a rush to finish, so they don't stop for a minute and think. When working with dangerous tools, or putting yourself in any risky situation like doing repairs from the top of a tall ladder, the question you should ask each time is "what is the worst that could happen" and always err on the side of caution, safety first. These are only small risks, but year after year the odds will catch up to you.
It only takes a second .. I have had enough close calls to now be very careful.. Cutting that tape made me cringe.. But we did not see the actual cutting of it..

I’ve been trying to find a material like this for about a year now. Everyone always suggested to me “try glass or plexiglass” uhhh which is way too expensive for what I want to do. I looked it up and only saw roofing ones at Home Depot. But Lowe’s carries it and other similar options for very cheap! Thank you!!!
I did see a young man make his own rolling Tiny Home using a LOT of this polycarbonate for his windows. It worked well for him and tolerated quite the road trip in good shape. Good choice! I would put some glazing compound or, maybe, that bead of silicone just to keep the moisture from freezing up during the winter and causing some warping. Beware the Ticks! Nasty critters---them and leeches always were my bugaboo as a lad. When you're raised on a cattle ranch, those two beasties were always on hand to mess up your swimming hole or chores.

I like what you do. A piece of 2X4 through the roll of tape would have kept our fingers further away from the blade. I have taken a few chances like that. Window glaze is available in a calking gun tube as an FYI. Stay safe.

I used those sheets of polycarbonate in the winter here in Oregon during the rainy season. I place panels on the outside of the chicken run. Great job, good decision to use the polycarbonate!
This poly could work for inside window inserts to seal drafty interior windows. I have seen vids of people making wood frames and using hick shrink wrap, but using this poly you apparently can skip the wood and just tape the edges to make a smooth surface to stick the weather stripping foam around and you are done. Only thing is you don't have the visibility if shrink wrap, but if you don't mind that, then it will work.

I plan to try this out but to also add a bead of silicone down the open ends of the corrugated slots to prevent and seepage.

If you have a bunch of those windows to do your best bet is to soften the beding compound with a blowtorch. Then it'll come right out with a putty scraper. We had 150 windows to do an ours...

Fortunately he’s not lost any digits! He has used a table saw that’s over a 100 years old. It was his dads. We got a dewalt one back in 2012 that’s more portable. Great video, it's been some years now since you did this. How did they work out? I heard polycarbonate gets a yellowish tint to it after a while. Did you notice that at all. I think uv resistant polycarbonate would prevent that
I think the polycarbonate can yellow over time, but these panels have a UV coating on them which helps. I think pvc panels are more prone to yellowing. We no longer live there so I can't say for sure how they are doing.
Cutting tape with a chop saw is extremely risky. Glad you are still safe. Tape has sticky gummy surfaces and this could have caught on the blade and dragged your hand into the blade in a fraction of a second. You should have used a 24" long piece of wood inside the tape roll to hold it against the saw fence with a clamp. A finer tooth blade would have also provided a cleaner cut. But the best would have been getting the industrial grade double sticky rubber foam tape about 1" wide to seal the edges as well provide a weather water seal on the window frame. Otherwise corrugated or fluted clear polypropolene or polyethelene is great stuff for quick shed windows.
Been Subbing for a while, but I have to call you on this Video, so many things wrong with this. 1) please where safety glasses when chipping things like glazing. 2) never cut tape like that again, it would be nice to have fingers on that left hand, round items tend to roll when a circular blade contacts them. I saw another comment about putting a board through the center and I think this would be good. 3) Child Barefoot in the barn, there is lots of unknown in old barns. When cutting something that small hold the piece down with a scrap of wood not you fingers that close to the blade. Great solution for your windows!

They are made for greenhouses and sun rooms so they should do fine. As long as they let the light in and the wind out, we'll be happy.

I think the polycarbonate can yellow over time, but these panels have a UV coating on them which helps. I think pvc panels are more prone to yellowing. We no longer live there so I can't say for sure how they are doing.

Cutting tape with a chop saw is extremely risky. Glad you are still safe. Tape has sticky gummy surfaces and this could have caught on the blade and dragged your hand into the blade in a fraction of a second. You should have used a 24" long piece of wood inside the tape roll to hold it against the saw fence with a clamp. A finer tooth blade would have also provided a cleaner cut. But the best would have been getting the industrial grade double sticky rubber foam tape about 1" wide to seal the edges as well provide a weather water seal on the window frame. Otherwise corrugated or fluted clear polypropolene or polyethelene is great stuff for quick shed windows.

Been Subbing for a while, but I have to call you on this Video, so many things wrong with this. 1) please where safety glasses when chipping things like glazing. 2) never cut tape like that again, it would be nice to have fingers on that left hand, round items tend to roll when a circular blade contacts them. I saw another comment about putting a board through the center and I think this would be good. 3) Child Barefoot in the barn, there is lots of unknown in old barns.
