Farthings are a tough coin to collect in the US. I am trying to complete my collection. A great video. Thank you for sharing your search.
That's a wow on the 1920. For a tin of copper its not bad haul. I have said before the ones that are bad or uncollectable I would make sure they are taken out of circulation. Funny you should bring up Dark coins, was the Penny not dark varied as well, think certain dates? I'm trying to dig out my old Coin book it is huge but had lots of info in it. I think its in the Attic.
Nice different pre-decimal hunt. I've been watching M Collects channel, and he has also been doing a farthing hunt, but I don't think he got anything earlier than 1910. There were some decent conditioned ones in this hunt, but you wonder how long they have been in that tin, to make some start to corrode.
A great hunt; thank you once again. I note that the general condition of the fathings is better than the comparitive pennies by year. I suppose that this reflects their relative usage, as they've obviously been in circulation for almost as long, especially the older ones.
Love these beautiful old coppers, great stuff as usual mate.
I really enjoyed that!!
4 Bingo lines completed 😊but close to completing 3 other lines 😊
A few really good condition ones considering their age 😊
the mug claimed a fair few dirty examples too.
Great stuff 👍🏻
Always enjoyable these videos. Some great finds.
Great video Paul. Lovely to see a Farthing hunt. lets hope you can find another stach somewhere to continue your hunt
My favourite coins are farthings because the obverse side of the coin where the monarch is are often in very good condition. By the way I think that the 1919 farthing you've found might be in uncirculated condition
Very enjoyable hunt! Thanks for the content!
First video of yours I came across and I subscribed! Really enjoyed this!
Nice hunt, the dirty mug is filling up.
I remember being able to buy an apple for a farthing and bread rolls were always one penny and a farthing.
I have the full date run of the farthing from1760 to 1956 including all the different variants and there are lots, You also need deep pockets...😂😂And from 1860 to 1868 there are over 20 different variants
Great video as always. I'd love to start collecting old coins. Where's the best place to obtain old pre decimal coins? I've not got a lot of money. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Never clean coins with soap and water!! A pure 100% acetone bath with an air drying on a microfiber cloth will remove everything without harming the surface. DO NOT RUB. Also Handle the coins by the Edge or you will leave Fingerprints on the coin. Coin collectors do NOT like Fingerprints.
Also yes those are alloy mixture issues, it's colloquially called "Woodgrain". The more extreme the more people like them.
Nice...a new collection of farting..😮
🚶♂💨 🤣
Is that a H under the 1860
Hi m8 Gr8 video as per usual
The name under the Wren looks like a dropping, would have better to put it somewhere else me thinks. LOL
don't like it when u keep speeding up
I had to do it on this occassion, otherwise the video would have been about 3 hours long
Yep.. watched to the end - mind you... each time I see the designer's mark below the wren's posterior I think it's a dropping!! 😁😁
Great video and info given. You did chuck the 1930 coin in the mug at 14:40 and you didn't put the 1885 one on the board at 32:50 :(
Another enjoyable video Paul thanks, @ 21:50, I believe the process of blackening farthings used Sodium Thiosulphate which caused a film of black Copper Sulphate on the surface. As you correctly say the UK dropped this process when the UK abandoned the Gold Standard in 1917. I also follow a sister channel 'Pennies & Shillings by Zac in South Africa. SA held the gold standard until 1932 as did Australia, SA continued to blacken their farthings, does anyone know if Australia did?
I have a one third farthing Edward V11 of 1902, although for use in Malta, it was considered part of UK currency as Malta did not have a stand alone currency. This is in AUNC condition but struck on a blanc that obviously been blackened too, does anyone know why, please?
Nice Video Paul - GaryWright - Charity Coins Coventry UK ...
The 51 farthing that is looking worn may be an error type such as a pressure die test piece which end up in bin but may have escaped the quality control process 😊
Excellent video love farthings still got alot gaps in my date run. First coins started collecting
👍👍👍👍👍
Acetone should help remove the adhesive without altering the surface of the coin.
Its good.. I maybe missed it but was there any commentary on values?
A good video! Like the hunt of another denomination. Thanks for sharing insights into collecting Farthings. I've been accumulating many of them. Maybe it's time to make a board like yours @CoinPatrol . Let's see how many different ones I've got.
such grand coins! how long do you reckon those coins were taped together?
That 1862 was gorgeous! 15:45
the 1901 was another beauty. 21:26
I struggle to find farthings pre1900.
The lesson about the 1953 variations is much appreciated, thank you!
500+ coins... hoped you'd have filled more gaps. It's still a lot better than my own farthing horde (for gaps).
Re. The oxidisation by fumes to darken farthings at 12:38...
Could this be related to the colour differences between the pennies produced at the different mints?
Mentioned on another video some time ago.
Suggested it could be related to the water used canal/varying levels of industrial pollution/etc.
Thanks Paul!
Some very nice Coins! Thanjs for sharing
nice to see a farthing hunt CP-- Even if so few varieties. i always wonder why the farthings invariably are in far better nick than pennies.. esp the early George V ones. Yes, the 1860's are a mystery-- in your previous Farthing Hunt you found TEN; surely the mintage figure is wrong.
Howdy, another great video! It's cool to learn about these British coins. Can't find any of these over here in the States😂Have a great day Y'all!
A little expensive in my opinion but some nice finds
That was a great buy Paul some great condition coins thanks for sharing mate. 👍🇦🇺👍
I’m sure there’s 2 versions of 1895 farthings.
Brilliant coin hunt 👍 I've always liked collecting farthings and have a near complete run back to Charles II
Love those little farthing
960 farthings to a pound, you wouldnt want a couple of pounds worth in your pockets on a night out. Thanks for the upload.
Finally a good video and as a American far things are my favorite British coin
I agree. When at my LCS, I pull all the older farthings to add to my collection. The are very inexpensive and most of the time they are in great condition. I've got a bunch of them. Maybe it's time to make a board like Coin Patrol's .
Great purchase and great hunt CP. Quite a few gaps filled including a few Smiffy bingo lines 😊
I agree with you about the 1860, I've got about seven toothed and one beaded.
Nail polish remover will remove glues with little effect on the coins.
Nice hunt that was fun to watch
Lovely video to tide me over until the next penny hunt. Thanks Paul
Loved it, nice buy.
Some great farthing’s a good buy
I am 16 farthings of completing my 1672 - 1956 farthing date run.
Great content, would love to see more farthings.
Keep up the good work!!!!
Worth paying £55 for this content alone Paul! Loving it 👏
Very good
Another awesome video !! Absolutely love the pre-decimal hunts ... can't wait for the next one 👍🏻
Hi enjoyed this video , I’ve just found 2 full whiskey bottles full of farthings , are any of them of value thanks
The 'dirty mug' appreciates this farthing hunt 👍
Great video, i'm 12 off completing my Farthing date run back to 1860. I didn't know that they were mislead for sovereigns in the old days, interesting!
Second time watching. There’s always a funny ending! And I love the disgust at the dirty and polished coins!
Really impressed with the making of boards 👍, been watching a few of your vids and have wondered.
Pure acetone will take that goo off without harming the coin.
Great hunt, thanks Paul. Love these pre decimal hunts
Very nice hunt Paul, interesting to see farthings for a change. I watch American coin videos as well and old some copper coins over there also have the striping from the alloy problem. They called it "wood grain pattern" and I don't think they look ugly.
Oooh lovely treasure. Usually risky purchases are backed up with the knowledge that the odds are you will find a rare beast or rather bird 👏😎🍀💜
Great Farthing hunt Paul 😊 There are 2 1911 with and without Hollow neck as on the Penny 👍Thanks for Sharing
Some really nice gems in that tin 😊
Lovely hunt, that tin of farthings was a great find! I know the fair you were talking about, been to it a few times. Looking forward to the next hunt.
The 1860 Farthing Is Over 3,000,000😮
Brilliant video as always, great hunt 👍
great hunt the Farthing looks to be about the size of our small Canadian one cent
What a great tin, and spread of coins. Thanks CP.
I did enjoy that.I do like the Farthings great hunt👌👍
The initials under the wren looks like the bird has had a poop😊
That's an unfortunate position to put the initials under the wren.
Call me a looney or any other name but can you help? Please in the 1970 s? I think be gentle did it really happen did a 25p coin happen? Or is me no value on it😮 i am elderly so be gentlle thank your for the memories about the penny and farthing
Hi Tony. Therevwere two 25p (Crown) coins in the 1970's The Silver Wedding and The Queens Silver Jubilee. Neither had the value showing on the coin.
Fantastic pick up ⚓️🧲👍
The 1879 & 1881 were in glorious condition despite the gunge. A superb search Paul
Don’t apologise for the lengthy videos. I love watching them! I recently found your channel and subscribed. Besides the fun watching the coins, the info you provide for variants and other interesting bits really is first class.
Thanks Jason 👍
Great hunt good show.
Enjoyed that.
🍺👍🏻
WONDERFUL.
That was a great buy. Wonderful to see all those older coins. The Parker wren farthing is one of my favourite coin designs. Thanks for showing them on your channel. Cheers
Nice to see Farthings in your hunt for a change. I prefer Pennies, but Farthings are fun too. Well done.
second?
Sad!!
First
Bloody hell, l better alert the media!!
As you know I won't be leaving a comment but it did help me drop off to sleep so thanks for that
Hi Paul, excellent hunt
