Make sure the router has the 4G and 5G bands for the providers your gonna use, but also since that router and antenna looks to be only 2x2 its most likely gonna be worse than your phone, if you can get a router and antenna thats 4x4 it would most likely be faster
Great video! The only thing bothering me abit is the fact that the antenna was a few inches from the top, the bar blocking the sinal abit ... Obviously we dont get enough info on the distance to each masts on each scenario, the antenna signal patterns and dbi's are important aswell :) I havent looked at that perticular brand, however Poynting and Quwireless have great motorhome produtcts...
Hi, thanks for watching! I totally get what you're saying - the placement isn’t perfect, but with the solar panel, roof bars, and the slope, I didn’t really have many options! It’s been working pretty well so far, though, as you saw in the video, there are occasional anomalies. As a side note, I don’t really use the roof bars, so I might remove them someday. Then again, they do protect my skylight and antenna if I ever drive under a low barrier as they sit slightly higher than both 😂
Question please: if I didn't have the confidence to drill the roof, any reason why I couldn't just mount the aerial pod in a cupboard? My only use for this would be to run a ring security camera off the hotspot, so I can keep an eye on the van when I'm out walking.
Hi, thanks for watching 👋🏻 For me, the van itself was reducing the signal, so having the antenna on the inside wouldn't have been as good. Obviously this will depend on your vehicle, and how strong your signal is in the area. Have you considered using an old or cheap android phone as a hotspot? You could just leave this in your van for your camera 🤔
Hi 👋🏻 At £400 upfront and £50 a month, it's just too expensive for something I'd only use perhaps 15 days of the year. If they release a pay as you go option (perhaps per day), I'll definitely consider it!
Did you consider that the antenna could be faulty? I’ve purchased the same set up from an eBay seller. I have been testing the unit before I fit it and so far the antenna seems to attenuate the signal, never boost it. How are you finding the system? Great video.
Hi 👋🏻 thanks for watching. We went camping shortly after uploading this video, and we were in an area where I couldn't get any signal on my phone at all. Using the antenna we managed to stream live TV for over an hour in HD with no problems, so it's definitely been worth it for us! On the odd occasion where my phone performs better, I just use that. It's strange, as you'd think the antenna would always do a better job but I'm guessing it's something to do with supported network bands, or perhaps the position of the van. Either way, it's good to have options 👌🏻
Lovely thorough test and well presented / edited. Liked and subbed.
Cheers, appreciate the support ✌🏻
Very useful test and information.
Glad you think so! Thanks for watching ✌🏻
Good job. Braver thanks me, drilling holes on a roof. To date, I have mine sorted but temporary with no drilling 😅
Cheers mate. I have to admit it was a bit scary 🙈🤣

Thanks for doing this , the instructions are pretty poor, now I know where the two antenna wires go into the router from the base plate 👍
Thanks for watching, glad it helped ✌🏻
What about Starlink instead?
