My only nitpick at this scene is that he is holding a book in camp before you trigger it, not a mirror. It would be nice if the player had a hint for the next scene to be unlocked because a character is doing something different, or is somewhere else in camp. PS: I also agree with some people below that it would be nice to have options to lightly touch/hug characters. I'm the kind of person that likes to place a hand on someone's shoulder when I'm "trying to connect" to their emotions. As they say, actions say more of who you are than words. It would be nice if a few options like that would be in the menu, it would add many layers to our character's persona.
@Ammy Hideyoshi - That is an Excellent point there ! I never paid much attention to it. That would have been a nice touch to see him looking into a mirror before triggering the scene. The same with his drunk his scene - have him standing around off balance or for his scar reading scene - have it happen some where at the edge of camp as a private moment for him & the MC. It can be done, we see it for his morning after nightmare discussion scene where his lying down in the mud by the log before we talk to him. My first few playthroughs of Patch 5 I had no idea when his scenes would trigger :/ many times where random. I hope to see in the full release some minor details at least to let us know when specific scenes are going to happen, similar to what was done in Dragon Age Inquisition. I'm the same :) I love being able to lightly touch or hug my beloved characters ^_^ I feel much more connected to them & makes it special. Fingers Crossed all those options will available to us for full release :D
@@aranellavellan in the datamined preview for this scene, there was an option to caress his face and offer to be his mirror. Kind of upset that was removed, even though it may have been difficult to CGI/motion capture it with the various races (maybe they could lock it to certain race tags?). I would've loved to have seen that
@@rocky7885 It was very disappointing they took it out :( It was something I was really looking forward to experiencing. It would have been a very special moment and given how previously he refused to be touched at all (when you try to give his shoulder a reassuring squeeze option) . I can understand how difficult it must be to mocap especially for the shorter races. Although older games have been able to do it with tall and short races like the Dragon Age series if your playing as a Qunari or Dwarf. I just really hope for future patches or full release Larian are able to put it back in :)
You know what would be a really cool option for this scene? An option to offer to sketch a portrait. It could be a performance, slight of hand or perception check. If successful It would be cute to have a follow up scene where you catch him staring at it. And if you fail it would be funny to hand him like a stick figure drawing and he gets all frustrated or roasts you.
Yes!! Or there could be an option to take him to a painter who could do his portrait (for a fee), for those who don't have the right skills to do it themselves lol.
He sounds so sincere when he wants to know what we and people see of him 😭 My only gripe is an actual choice and animation to gently hold his face as we describe his features. Thats how i picture it everytime 😭
But is it sensible? He had a violent reaction when you wanted to squeeze his shoulder after Cazador dream. And it's not like a lot of time has passed. Also, some people just don't like to be touched.
@@dominika3762 I get the feeling that touch is something this character needs to be in control of. Being touched is triggering for him, especially when he feels vulnerable like in this scene. Fighting or sex are one thing, because he can control those interactions and he has a mental script for how those work. Casual touch is another and much messier in some ways.
I am So Happy we got this scene. I thought it was beautiful & heartbreaking especially the first part & when he says "What you see" 🥰 it's a shame they left out the option to hold his face. It would have been a wonderful moment especially if you romanced him.
I love this scene so much, because he gets so vulnerable and tender about it. I think you need to know what something looks like in order to duplicate it. In his case it has been 200 years. His reflection may quite literally be a faceless figure; terrifying.
I wish he showed a bit more of his vulnerability, asking for more details instead of just going "call me pretty and we're cool." The potential for angst is big here lmao The competition line is so playful, I love it so much.
Likely because mirrors in that time were made of silver, and I think even with the tadpole he'd still be affected by silver, just as he is with running water.
@@rachelhughes8487 i think lorewise it would be probably too much of a hastle for the tadpole. The other things may be useful for the hosts do do some unknown task for the tadpole. But what does it care if you can't see your reflection or uf you have to find a bridge to cross?
I've been thinking about it and... if the tadpole fixes his vampiric traits so he can be a better fighter, it would fix him taking accidic damage from the water too. Moreover, stake through the heart shouldn't kill him but we know he can be easily killed this way now and thus the tadpole made him more vulnerable. I guess that his weaknesses will be further eliminated if you keep using illithid powers like he wants, crooking his personality even further. Why not use the worm to mentally show him how he looks in your eyes

You can get a portrait and even a statue made of him but Sadly Astarion can't interact with them ,hopefully Larian will fix this
There should be an option to draw him a picture of himself and if you fail the roll it's just a little stickman with fangs or something
