You know I’ve felt a little guilty after my earlier comment in that I don’t want to make it sound like you have to be something special to do those claps.
You could absolutely do it too with a little practice. Firstly there are 2 (maybe 3, I can’t remember) different parts going on. Watch and see how the 2 parts bland to give a more complex result.
If you focus on one part only you will see it is much more do-able. Concentrate on one of the simplest one to start just keeping in mind where the beats are. 1 2 3 4.
Practice makes perfect, just like you can rest assured they did plenty of, and you’ll get it.

Great song. BUT Why that Clapping? Aargh.
Not gonna lie, really underwhelming, seems like the band itself has too many elements as well. Not thats it's a bad band. Maybe it was the song or maybe it seems like they were a lower skill quality of other guest bands but as is what it is, it is my opinion after all.
Well, terrible television audio quality. Sound engineer must have like 10 seconds to set levels. That's a large portion of why it sounds clunky.
I am really questioning his new band quality. The band of his previous album had much more fluid interaction. But, Hozier himself is always charming and excelent!
Hozier: the king of incredibly complicated off beat guitar parts to play whilst singing in a different beat to the already off beat guitar.

Yeah, the whole rhythm of this song is basically a mess that turns out perfect haha. Pretty hard to learn too.

Its the same pattern repeated three times with a clap at the end. Its called a clave and its a standard latin syncopation tool.

I totally agree, it's very genuine. you can tell everything she sings is coming from a place of honesty and real emotion.
lately I've been listening to the stuff she's done with the band HoneyHoney as well, and I'm enjoying that too.
