I'm a single-person household and buy in bulk where I can. I stock up on paper towels, trash bags and t.p. along with frozen fruit and vegetables and meat when it is on sale and I break them down into smaller packages using my Food Saver. I have a small upright freezer to store my extra purchases. I primarily shop at Walmart and get loss leaders and good sales from my local Kroger affiliate, Bakers. I also belong to Sam's Club and my next next-door neighbor belongs to Costco. She shops at both club stores for each of us to get the best sale prices.

Good day 👋🏾. Y’all should create a family cookbook. I’m sure that it would be a hit. I’d love to see a section on Solo’s Kenyan Cooking, a section on large family favorites, a section on what each kid would recommend and tips and tricks to getting a daily or near daily homemade meal on the table. You could even include a section on housing cleaning and home organization. I hope that you all consider the idea. Have a great day.

I wanted to comment on your video from this morning. I can't find it now. Anyway, your friend was on and talking about a tragedy that happened to her family. I sat there for 2 hrs stunned or something . I prayed about it. It is almost midnight and I am still in shocked by it.! Oh my, , she is doing the right thing by praying to Jesus in the morning and whenever she needs it.I am shooting up prayers for her and the family! Thank you for sharing that. I am still in disbelief over it. I will continue to pray for them over and over and over for them, and I will pray for her son the same. I cannot say I understand, because I don't. I am mortified by it all. I don't even know if that is the right word to use. I just know I am doing alot of praying for her. God be with you all!!Oh my sakes.😢😢😢😢❤❤❤❤❤

Hi, Sarah, I can easily see your older kids inviting some of their friends over for a post-Christmas gathering....and enjoying either the lasagna or the "emergency" pizza! ~ On another note, there is no shame in occasionally feeding your littles sandwiches and soup or salad for a quick, easy dinner. Much cheaper than a drive-through, and not too lengthy a clean-up.

Shopping once a month saves on the missed items you need as well...Now that my husband is retired, empty nesters :) yea...we cook extra portions of some stuff like meat balls for sub sandwiches, soups , stews and we freeze or can the extra portions for no cooking Fridays, it keeps us from eating fast food Fridays like we did in the past. My husband is canning navy bean soup this weekend. I'm making loaves of banana bread and pumpkin bread for the freezer.

Plant an orchard on your land. You could get farm hands rent free in your old house in exchange for a weeks work. You could then increase your farming and raise pigs, and when you produce more cows they could also do the milking for you.

Hi Sarah! One convenience meal I like to make is to make a big pot of beans for tacos, freeze in portions and also a big quantity of Guac to freeze (especially now when avocados are on sale). It makes for easy meals :) Also a big amount of spaghetti sauce that I freeze. I also like to make a huge pot of lentil soup and freeze in jars as I find making the broth and everything is a lot of work for one meal only. Also at the grocery store I noticed they sell indian paneer and bean curry in bag, and you could probably use 2-3 as it as a base and add some canned tomatoes and beans and serve with rice or quinoa. Hope this can help :)

I can't wait to see what you can for your convenience meals -- things I have done that work well: canned soup, chili, beef stew. The Ball canning recipe for pork cubes is so delicious -- we use it for quick tacos, or add BBQ sauce and make sandwiches. Ball also has a good recipe for beef stroganoff. Any of the meal recipes in the Ball Blue Book are good.

Sarah with your blessed large family consider canning in half gallon to gallon sizes. Just get a 23qt stove top canner and yes, nothing different just get to it and over it. Can't remember if you have one or even if you have a glass top stove. If you do, on the glass top buy a turkey fryer and use the element just like a gas stove. Ever think about a outside kitchen for canning, they are awesome!! God Bless y'all!

Easy fast, cheap and nutritious meal : cook any pasta you have according to directions, drain then add butter, and about an egg per person, mix until eggs are done , top with parmesan cheese, serve with a veggie side your kids like .
Carbohydrate + protein + vegetable = yummy, specially when you don't have a lot of money, not to eat everyday but I always went to bed with a happy tummy after eating this when I was a child.

My favorite home canned easy meals...
Canned meats-chicken, pork, stew beef. Precooked and doesn't need to be thawed can be opened and added to anything or sauced and put on a bun
Bone broths-never underestimate a quick soup in the winter (wr also always have freezer packs of onions, carrots and celery mixed so we can dump a bag and use it as a base)
Soups- since you have access to a pressure canner you can double most soup recipes and as long as you don't add dairy or noodles you can can most brothy soups. I do this with chicken soup and chili regularly
Beans- dry beans aren't hard but we always have quarts of home canned beans for the times I don't have time to soak and cook them. Canning dry beans is the easiest process. This was a game changer for my family!
Lastly for home canned grab and go we have a ton of jam but we add this to oatmeal for a quick baked oatmeal dessert (especially if we have extra eggs)

When you start Canning Meats you will save a lot because it is super easy to pull jars off the shelf to make a meal so much you can do with Chicken. I've canned ground beef a lot easier than I thought it would be ( cook it first, drain off fat then can it with a little bit of water in it). Canning Vegetable soups with cooked burger or beef tips if you want to. Next spring plan out how to grow green beans and Can them.. I grow Kentucky Wonder pole beans, use cattle panels for them to climb up they are very easy to grow versus buying them and if you don't spray them with chemicals they are Organic and let some of the beans dry out in the fall and you have seeds to regrow the next year. Another easy meal: Pizza spaghetti. Freezes well. Cook spaghetti noodles. Drain. Add spaghetti sauce and cut up pepperoni. Add any Italian spices you like. Mix it all. Put it in a baking casserole pan. Mix in shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Bake on oven. About 350 -375 for about 30-60 minutes. Time depends on if this is frozen or not. Makes great leftovers and snacks ( microwave to warm). You can also freeze this in freezer baggies, defrost in the microwave and then into a baking dish to bake.

Pressure canned beef stew is so simple since you can add all of the ingredients raw :). I think you've made that before though and already know that 😜. I've also done chicken soup and a beef veggie soup where the only things you need to cook ahead is the meat. I'm also looking to refill some jars with ready made meals as I empty them from our water bath canned stuff from this past growing season

We like making speghatti (can cook ground beef from frozen. Or something with sausage (sausage and gravy or jambalaya) because we just defrost it for 30 seconds until it's just thawed to cut up.

My son is stationed in Okinawa, Japan too. He's been there for 3 years and is ready to come back stateside. He always asks what I'm making for dinner. When I tell him he says he's jealous, lol!! You should can all those cuties. You just make a simple syrup of equal parts water to sugar. simmer it on the stove to dilute the sugar. Can the cuties whole or piece them out. That would be a good job for the kiddos, " One for me, one for the jar", etc. Fill the jars with cuties then pour the simple syrup on them. It's a fruit so you just water bath them for 20 to 30 mins.

I read somewhere the other day that you shouldn't use powdered detergent with leach field/septic tanks. I don't know if there's anything to it because I use liquid, so I didn't go any further with it. However, you might want to research it.

Hi from England Sarah, it’s dark here at 16:00 and very cold with more snow predicted. Regarding the wash, I used to use the same products as you in the machine and it totally wrecked my washer after a few years so I stopped using it, however I use a range of products that are environmentally friendly and not expensive from SMOL. It’s a small UK company, which I like and their products are better than my homemade ones. I found that my homemade laundry products made the wash start to take on a dullness with no bright colour or whites anymore as it doesn’t rinse as well. I’m thinking of your lovely new bedding which should last many years. You may want to use a good detergent for that. Love seeing you all at your homestead.

Our go-to, super easy convenience meal- “Southwest veggies”-
Equal parts canned black beans, canned diced tomatoes and canned corn (or frozen corn). Dump in a pan and add cumin. Boom.
    Variations:
-sauté a chopped onion before adding cans
-and/or roast some chopped/baked sweet potatoes. Turns it into a stuffed sweet potato or sweet potato bowl
-and/or serve with corn tortillas or chips
-and/or add sour cream, cheddar cheese or salsa
    -and/or add avocado
This meal takes about 3 minutes to make. Super easy.
