I've often wondered if just bashing it up and down the wall over and over again is actually teaching you bad habits because you're actually hitting a length where you can hit it back - either hard so it bounces up off the back wall, or short so there's room to swing. i.e. not a dying length.
I always find I warm up for a match hitting the ball up and down the line to myself, then my opponent comes on court, we start crossing to each other and I realise I am barely warmed up at all. How often do you hit a static shot straight back to yourself in a match, I guess!
My tips: always ensure you keep hold of the racket, and that your laces remain tied.
