Welcome to Portland! I moved here a couple years ago and as someone in my early 20s I’ve found some great ways to meet people here is volunteering, hiking groups and indoor rock climbing is popular too! I also love taking myself on dates to the Portland art museum (free first Thursdays of the month!) and the Portland night market that’s coming up in February(:
Don't feel bad about accepting help. It is good for you & your mental health. Go to your local library, there are plenty of groups & activities going on. Congrats on surviving cancer!!!!! You rock. Just remember. . .On particularly rough days when you are sure you can't possibly endure, I'd like to remind you that your track record for getting through bad days so far is 100% and that's pretty damn good!!💛💚💙💜
Going to church is a great start! Having watched some family members move away to new cities, I think sometimes people set themselves up for failure by trying to make random connections into a support network. Younger generations tend to see going to church as something for established/married/suburban people to do, but that's not the case at all: in a new place, it's wiser to start with building relationships with people who already share deeper values with you - a support network needs shared roots to hold you up. Guaranteed you'll find like minded people in no time: your smile is infectious! ❤️🙏
Alex, just take it easy, everything will drop into place in it's own time. It won't be long before your a figure in your neighborhood and drop into casual conversations with strangers, it just takes time and patience and then you won't have to rely on your 'I'm a cancer free person' you'll just be Alex. Hi Alex! Love your joy and excitement! I’m in the exact same place your in. I’m a newly cancer free woman! I find that I’m putting a lot of pressure on myself too. The first reason for me is to make up for lost time and the second is that there is still so much I want to do. I have to remind myself that it will all fall into place in God’s timing and that nothing meant for me will pass me by.

You're bursting with energy and excitement. For good reason! ENJOY IT bro! I moved out at 16. Became a young father (one of the reasons I moved out). Army at 18 (03'-11' 4x deployments). My girl/wife moved around alot in the next 8 years. Had another kid inside that time as well. Moved again when I got out. We finally were into the right place as adults/parents all around to buy land and build a home 5 years ago. Moving still sucked!! It's fun before and after. I was cooking breakfast on an outdoor grill for almost a month. Looking back on that month it was SO AWESOME. I made it seem stressful at the time. I wished someone would've just said to chill out and live in the present. It's so rare to have the ability (be it because financial restrictions, time constraints, physical constraints, etc) to do that. You're an energized, good looking dude that seems well grounded and mature. So...enjoy it, cancer free man!! You've earned it!!

I’ve coincidentally moved away from home to live by myself at relatively the same time as u and seeing someone who appears so confident and accomplished and… handsome and charismatic have the same issues as me just forces me to remember that none of us are alone in struggles. U were always an inspiration to me, now ur relatable too ❤😂

Wishing the best of luck making new friends! The easiest way i found as an adult is asking something while waiting for the bus if someone around my age seems approachable. Sometimes you get a rushed answer, other times a heart warming convo with a stranger you will never see again and other times a new friend!
You have more friends and admirers than you know. How many of your followers would really love to be in your friend circle. I wish that I was nearby and we could go on a hike or go get coffee, whatever it might be. Your videos are always the first one I watch in my feed. I consider you part of my extended family.
"Waiting for that perfect moment" sounds familiar to me...and it will almost never happen. When it feels right, the process will unfold.....when you have the time, the inclination, not when you feel you must. An old book I read "Don't Push The River" is a goodie. Read it...when you feel the inclination. Have the book at hand.

25 years survivor and I'll tell you what the best thing you can do is dress up as a pirate and just make yourself known around bars. You've got character my man you've got spunk! Start dressing up as pirate and go to places you like and have regular conversations with the town folk. I'm a life-size dog because I trained a sled dog that would pull me around town and when I got the plush dog masks the joke was who's walking who. You got does you really did make it and we can see you!!❤❤❤❤
Join the human race! I'm 70, and I still have to kick myself sometimes to stop waiting for the perfect moment. That's something you'll never get over, but your awareness of the problematic nature of waiting may give you a bit of an advantage. Most of use burn through a half lifetime (or more) before we figure out that the only thing we're given is this moment - not next year, next month, next week, or even tomorrow - just do it now!
Please keep your intro forever! The best and easiest place to make friends is definitely church :) You can also join a club! Moving is a lot. Theres a lot to do, a lot to think about. For you, you've probably never done or had to deal with most of these things, so you're also learning while you're on it.. I think everyone at every age and life experience feels stress when moving. Perfectly normal! Maybe set goals for when you want things done by that actually align with your desire for it to be relaxing. Then you have a plan you can stick to and relax when you're not doing moving related stuff. I would also say to figure out the necessities and then worry about decorating afterwards. Rome wasn't built in a day! This also gives you more time to get comfortable in your new space and really think about how you want it to look. Sorry for the lecture, I've moved quite a bit lol 😅😅

Congratulations On Beating Cancer! I'm glad you had God, family & friends to lean on as you went through that part of the journey of life! I've been told those & prayers help get a person through the tough times of the battle against cancer! Welcome to the PNW, too! Things to try: Voodoo Donuts (just so you can say you have. They have quite a variety), Mo's around the coastal regions (everything just tastes better at the Old Town Florence Mo's, imo) & Albertsons or Winco's fried chicken 🍗 (it's just good chicken [esp. Albertsons] & definitely better than Walmordor, imo) Things to do: (besides church) Go to the Oregon Coast Aquarium, Haceta Head Lighthouse, Enchanted Forest (it's more of a nostalgic fun & giggles than a Six Flags), Portland Zoo, Wildlife Safari & the Raptor Center (when it re-opens). There's also the different mountain passes to visit if you like the snow & the coast if you don't mind cold water & sand. Things to watch: *Grimm It's based on an unusual cop who lives in Portland & was filmed in & around P-land & Northern Oregon! It's not like most cop shows but it's still a great show & a lot of fun! *So Help Me Todd A PI who works with his strict mother to solve cases. Also based in Portland & filmed there & around Northern Oregon. I've heard 'Portlandia' was good but I just couldn't get into it. I'm sure there's more to recommend, I just can't think of anything else atm 🤷🏾♀️

Cool I moved out at 22 I think. Lol I sat on a empty floor all happy about living alone. Before I was with a cranky roommate lol. Second move but first alone. I’ve been ready to always do everything alone even now. I’m a shy introvert pushing out. I just turned 30 this year and I’ve done a lot since then but lol still pushing always. I guess shyness doesn’t go away lol but it gets better. I’ve moved like 3 times and pushing to move to bigger city. Lol

Just be you. I assume everyone you meets' 1st question is....what happened to your leg. I am sure that gets annoying having to explain every time. Funny thing, I work with this guy that is 6'7. He hates it because every person he meets passes say, "How tall are you?" I told him to buy a solid colored shirts & just have "I'm 6'7" put on the front and back of them all. Congratulations On Beating Cancer! I'm glad you had God, family & friends to lean on as you went through that part of the journey of life! I've been told those & prayers help get a person through the tough times of the battle against cancer!

Things to try:
Voodoo Donuts (just so you can say you have. They have quite a variety), Mo's around the coastal regions (everything just tastes better at the Old Town Florence Mo's, imo) & Albertsons or Winco's fried chicken 🍗 (it's just good chicken [esp. Albertsons] & definitely better than Walmordor, imo)
Things to do: (besides church)
Go to the Oregon Coast Aquarium, Haceta Head Lighthouse, Enchanted Forest (it's more of a nostalgic fun & giggles than a Six Flags), Portland Zoo, Wildlife Safari & the Raptor Center (when it re-opens). There's also the different mountain passes to visit if you like the snow & the coast if you don't mind cold water & sand.

It's based on an unusual cop who lives in Portland & was filmed in & around P-land & Northern Oregon! It's not like most cop shows but it's still a great show & a lot of fun!

Cool I moved out at 22 I think. Lol I sat on a empty floor all happy about living alone. Before I was with a cranky roommate lol. Second move but first alone. I’ve been ready to always do everything alone even now. I’m a shy introvert pushing out. I just turned 30 this year and I’ve done a lot since then but lol still pushing always. I guess shyness doesn’t go away lol but it gets better. I’ve moved like 3 times and pushing to move to bigger city. Lol

Just watched 19 hours late. lol. I work nights, so missed yesterday. Congrats on being cancer free. Ted Talk sounds awesome, congrats on that. About moving....you def don't come off as a shy person. Just be you. I assume everyone you meets' 1st question is....what happened to your leg. I am sure that gets annoying having to explain every time.
Funny thing, I work with this guy that is 6'7. He hates it because every person he meets passes say, "How tall are you?"
I told him to buy a solid colored shirts & just have "I'm 6'7" put on the front and back of them all. Lol
