You can date whoever you want, no matter who they dated in the past. If you can't handle your ex being with someone else, no matter if they're related to you or not, that's your own problem. It's none of your business who your exes or relatives date. As long as there is genuine love, commitment and respect for each other, be with whoever you want, and everyone else be damned.
It is understandable that the daughter felt the way she did. Honestly, who would not feel weird and uncomfortable if your mother or father is with your ex?

Well, it doesn't matter for people to date someone older than them (as long as they are the age of consent) but it will be hurtful for the daughter to see her ex become her stepdad and have a relationship with her mom. I feel so sympathetic for the daughter in this case.

If I were in Cynthia’s place I don’t think I could let go. I wouldn’t give the mom an ultimatum. Would however let mom know that I would go low contact and no contact with the boyfriend.

I don’t think it has anything to do with age. It’s the fact that the guy was the daughter’s boyfriend. I couldn’t get past that. In my case I would have immediately gone no contact with the both of them.

Even though I have never been in this situation, I know people who have. It has broken relationships and/or built relationships.
