Half the hater-punks here have never been to a Dead show with Jerry. It's a joke. JM does the Dead a great tribute. He doesn't try to be Jerry. He's himself and also one of the most exceptional guitar players in history. Bob Weir doesn't just call up the guy down the street to play with him.
I think the term you seek is "young and stupid"✌️
Exactly 💯
Well said!
Thanks Bob and John for documentation of these shows and broadcasting them for free on UA-cam
John is sounding so 1977 with that tone and the Fire on the Mountain solo... absolutely unreal. So clean and fluid...
I will NEVER get tired of O'Teil singing Fire on the Mountain

Always thankful to the person who posts the setlist!
Jeff is so on fire at all times. The guy just blazes through these classic tunes adding his own distinct flare and it sounds amazing. This whole band is so on form. Tight, but beautifully sloppy in the way that only the Dead can master.
4-yrs ago...damn; these guys are GOOD. And thanks to whoever captured this show and got it posted(!)
Their music is like spaghetti sauce - even better the next day. Enjoying the show all over again while working. It's a beautiful ting.
Thanks! I couldnt find the words and yes I ❤love it better every time.🙏⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘

This is a great show. Theres a lot of depth and raw power to it and it makes up for the sometimes slow tempo. These guys arent young bucks anymore. I respect and appreciate their music, fast OR slow tempo.

I love it that u have the songs down in case we don’t know what’s playing next ? But I do mostly know because I was there form the beginning !❤️🌹☮️💀🫶🏼✌️👻👽🪐☮️🥲😥😢but do I miss Jerry most of all & Brent also ! 🫶🏼✌️
@@bunnybeckman8029 You are right on with that call sister. 🎯
I completely Miss Jerry and Brent. I really miss Brent, what an amazing musician. And of course, the legend of the great mister Garcia speaks for itself. I believe those of us that have been to some of the older Dead shows when Jerry and Brent were performing on stage are very fortunate indeed to have personally witnessed the beautiful sounds and magical songs performed live by the Grateful Dead. Greatest band ever!
The look of absolute joy on Otiel Burbridge's face is an inspiration!
Beautiful Summary
John Mayer Making The Dead Grateful Again!
It's tough to come behind a legend. Especially one as loved as Jerry Garcia. But John Mayer is not a nobody. He's a consummate master entertainer and a guitar god in his own right. Before too long he owned that spot as a respectable replacement blessing everyone with his unique blend of himself + the Dead = vocals and guitar playing at their finest. There are no disappointments here.
Well said. Yes, JM does it justice.
U r so rite about John who I think is the best replacement of Jerry that anyone could b ! ❤️🌹☮️💥❤️🔥☄️💀🪐👽👻😍🫶🏼😇
I love to hear him sing as well.
And as good as he is at catching Jerry's sound and vibe, he's not trying to be Jerry 2.0.
Anybody who plays knows how difficult are the physical endurance coupled with keeping intetesting, changing lead lines flowing over 3-hrs plus remembering different set-lists every night(!)
I hated that Jerry was such a druggie but most of us couldn't pull that off night-after-night stone-cold sober.
@@docwill184 almost as if the drugs helped him find that endurance! Impossible don’t you think
Deadhead since 1st show in '68. Still on the bus. There's TONS to like/love/groove to here. Thanks to the band!!! Carry on, fellas. Thanks to Nugs--or whoever is all responsible for sharing/documenting... Loved Scarlet Begonias, Bird Song especially. That's as far as I've gotten so far...
Is the sound quality still legendary as reported in the old days?
same, since day i was born in 2006
@@dvdny I saw the wall of sound in 74 at colt park/dillion stadium. I had friends that listened to the show from there front porch in East Hartford on the other side of 91 over the truck traffic. said it was very clear. jerry came out dressed as captain trips as I remember but I could be wrong.
@@johnlarson111 Thanks. Must've been a blast.
@@CheriRichards yea weak cover bands sell out stadiums
i'm so not here for the technicals. Anyone on the live chat sounds like you techies missed a real good time! and Thank you from the rest of us who are just here for the vibe the family and the friends, our way of life taught by Jerry, Bob , Phil, Pigpen, Keith, Donna, Mickey, Bill, Brent, and learned so willingly by all of us too old and too grateful to be hateful beautiful DH"S with a smile wrinkle for every show that we danced straight thru, pissed in mud, made sliding boards out of that same mud. twirled and spun, still on the way home but never to shot out for the next nights show! Thanks, but no thanks kids, share that tech shit with maybe like an audience that wants to hear it. Get trippy lil' hippies, if you get confused, you should know what to do... just listen to the music play! Be KIND, AND keep on keepin on!
Ok, boomer
right on. we are lucky we have what we have, Bobby still has it, and I think Mayer is a perfect fit. it took some time for Mayer to grow on me but he has surpassed my expectations. The long strange trip continues. hope you experience good vibes...

I love everything u guys & girls have said ! Thank u !
what a perfect life, playing in the band.
I'll go see Bob play whenever I can. He won't be around forever. I'll take slow and tight instead of fast and sloppy. Shakedown has some heart. You just gotta poke around. ..
Dude, you are so right. Haters just don't get it.
bob has always been my favorite member.
You know it my brother....
Yes sir 👏 🙌 🙏
I really like Bob and enjoy Deadand Co, but while entertaining the Wolf Brothers show just needed a little bit of lead guitar imo or maybe banjo or fiddle or something. It def worked for some songs but not others w the 3 piece
@@indyheel1534 I agree. He needs another lead instrument. Bob's a phenomenal rhythm player but, like you said, needs something to fill the gaps.
I just love John and Jeff
The slow speed may make it less fun to sing along, but DAMN if they don't open the jams up to something amazing. Like psychedelic jazz. Thank you for posting!
I love this band
This is fantastic... Fyi... Mayer inducted SRV into the Rock and roll hall of fame, will eulogize Clapton, was invited by Billy Joel to play at his last play at Shea (along with Sir Paul McCartney), and had a band with Buddy Guy.... If you have an issue... that is a YOU thing. John IS Dead.
I’m very impressed with John ,he makes it all better ☮️✌️🕊🐰🐇🎹🎼🎵🎶🌹🌹🌹🪬🥲but I miss Jerry so much ,we had a thing going on ,I cry over him every day can’t help it !

tempos are a little slow. It's not just me.
@@palamambron I’m convinced it’s because it’s easier for Bobby to keep his breath while singing but more so that Bill just can’t play drums as fast anymore

the loose lucy > birdsong transition was the highlight of the 1st set.
I enjoyed this thoroughly in the background as I was doing my evening routine. The boys are just getting warmed up! It is going to be a great summer!
PS- the visuals during drums/space were absolutely superb
Yes they were!
I also agree that they out did themselves on the background ! 😂🤣🥳🥰😱❤️✌️🫶🏼👻💀👽🪐
Was a killer first show for tour. Beautiful venue and crowd and the band was electric. Any naysayers get to the show and judge before you start spewing negative vibes over UA-cam sound. Mayer sounds incredible in person. Wasn’t as most on fire as he’s been the last couple tours but it was opening night and Jeff chimenti more than made up for it absolutely killing it.
They are doing a good job I still Love it
you rock dude i watched it I enjoyed it a few surprises the Bird song luce lucy Birdsong was cool never seen that coming. I did think Oteil was looking a little depressed or to Baked but FOTM WAS AWESOME!
Zach Z ,someone lite a fire under Jeff. Came out smookin'. Rock on!
My wife who plays Piano wasnt impressed with Jeff but she said after a few songs he kicked it in she has a weird Crush on him or maybe its his Organ hehehehehehe
I don't know who complained about the sound, but I hooked my laptop to my big screen and surround sound system, and it sounded incredibly good to me. Really enjoyed the show.
Go Bob!
i was at that show and i thought they were great. we are so luck to have the bands from the 70 still at the top of their game. thank you youtube for being here and we can relive our show and learn about their experiences.
The show and the atmosphere were beautiful. Perfect start of the tour. The set list was awesome. Every show is unique and it's not worth comparing each show to each other considering some of the members are different.
Shakedown was the opener And it was the perfect pace to start the set given the atmosphere (people were still trying to get into the show at this point)
Mayors solo in brown eyed women was awesome and Oteil singing Fire on the Mountain was lovely. He should sing more!
No reason for negative vibes and nitpicking. The show was wonderful and I was grateful to be there. Thanks NRG!
Mayer* autocorrect....
I don’t like those nitpicking people they r not true Deadheads !
I just saw both Shoreline shows 5/31 and 6/1 - the Dead spirit is alive & well! I also saw both Fare Thee Well shows in SF and as much as I love Trey/Phish, it was just good. I then saw John with the band in 2018 both shows and I think he did a tad better. This past weekend, though, John has made significant improvements - less fast blues licks (we know he is a stellar skilled player) and more slow, burning lines and Jerry-type riffs. These were probably two of the BEST post-Jerry shows I've seen ever (starting with Further 1996), and I think 6/1 rivaled Fare Thee Well or was better. I am a musician and hardcore GD fan for 30+ years......and Jerry is everywhere - don't ever forget - I miss him daily! He was smiling down this weekend. Thank you, Boys!
70s dead was real nice and slow some of the best music they ever made slow and loose
The greatest 70s Dead clip on UA-cam and it's nice and slooooowwwww ua-cam.com/video/r7LrdKDDbYc/v-deo.html
Very jazzy evening of music, appreciated the free live stream, can't wait till the boys of summer get to The Gorge. I'll be there with bells on. I could go for The Weight
I was there. They just get better and better
I wish someday I can b there backstage so I can meet the new guys !
Chimenti and Otiel on Eyes imo were the highlight of this show.
This was a great, albeit imperfect/cob-web-dusting, show. Excited for what Summer ‘18 has in store for us! Great to see the boys and the bus in full gear again.
Just got home. what a great show,Hands Down!
bob looks and sounds like he is on a mission. Never lose that magic Bobby...
As soon as I heard a few bits of twang by Mayer a few years ago, I knew he was special. As it transpires, he's so special, he's keeping a whole Generation happy by loving the music himself & delivering it big style as it should be, authentically.
A much better show than I remember it when I was there. We were definitely disappointed it started late and they had to end at a certain time. But that tour just got better and better with every show!!
I put on D&C during my hour break at work. Put my earbuds in & sunglasses on and fall asleep 10 mins in.
Thanks for the freebie! Keep em coming for us financially deprived old Deadheads! :)
John Munson I say the dam thing yeh for u ! ❤️❤️🌹🌹☮️✌️🫶🏼💀🪐👽👻
For me......That’s as good as it gets. Thank you so much for sharing ✌️🎸🎸🎸🎹🥁🥁
Excellent drums n space
Love when Bobby picks up that old fender jag for Stella. ❤️✌🏼️⚡️
Birdsong is magical
Kind of a cosmic jam here in Shakedown. Awesome. And Eyes.
wanna go but due to a car accident, have guitars in pawn that need freed. Thanks bunches to Nugs, and UA-cam.
Being able to re-interpret songs that were done differently while as part of a band from decades ago is a great way into the artist's mind. Bobby's interesting chord progressions and intonation is why at age 17 he was a vital part of a progressive band that shaped the times for years to come. Not you, not me.. Bobby. Rock on. If you can't wrap your head around it, that's okay. Come on back when you are ready.
That was just excellent!!
Bobby my dear friend , did very well on this band ! 🤣😂😅🤩😍🥳
2/3 way into the show and Althea just started. Work is much more enjoyable this morning....
my home base, saw ABB here every summer! 1996, the encore was epic
For those who've paid attention to this band from the start will know this night was merely a soundcheck as they don't hit their stride till at least the 5th-8th shows of the tour...looking forward to seeing them in 3 weeks!
Cristian Plummer Haha I agree, but I felt this show had some very creative moments! Looking forward to seeing them out west!
Now last night #2 was more like it 👍
To me it doesn’t matter because the dead r still alive !,!! ❤️🌹☮️🥳😵💫😱🥰💀🫶🏼✌️🪐👻
The Scarlet-Fire was fucking beautiful! Glad to have them back, they make every summer better
John does an awesome job and I like when he puts himself in there along with Jerry feels. I've been playing for 35 years and met Bob in a hotel hallway where he played my junk acoustic. I got my own feel with Jerry in there but for John to get all these licks down and remember them is amazing.
Smokin' hot! Thanks for sharing.
Making Dead songs Great Again!!!
i still love the dead dead head ahead m deluxe here
I really enjoyed the first set of this show after giving it a second listen.
Brown-Eyed Women piano solo! Damn that was great.
Jeff should have taken Vince Welnick's job even though he was maybe 14 at the time.
Couldnt hear it
Rich Sadowsky yeah it seems! Lucky you.
I've heard a lot of Scarlett fires and I have to say that that was the best solo I've ever heard John play during fire. it was absolutely perfect with Oteil. that was probably the best version of scarlet fire that I've ever heard this band play I could be wrong but if you feel me let me know. Lol.
I feel you! Mayer and Chimenti get better with each show. They are what makes Dead and Co rock, not Bob, Bill and Mickey. The complainers don't want to accept that. Mayer always delivers a great Scarlet-Fire and plays the solos longer than Jerry did.
I was at this show and it really brought a tear to my eye.
@@jleighwolfe so was I and it did the same for me. Always does. That song holds a special place in my heart.
I love this band that Bobby put together but don’t ever say a thing about Jerry ! Nobody could do what he did !
Love Otiel's Fire On The Mountain.
I was at this show and always come back for that 2nd set.
Those Althea solos give me the jitters every time I listen to this show
Absolutely loved this show... Danced all night out on the lawn! Just wish the volume on John Mayer was a bit higher. While he's not Jerry, he's still an incredible player that deserves the spotlight in this band, especially during solos.

Really digging drum/space with Dead and Co. I never didnt like it but this stuff is somehow......more immersive? Beats me, just been "appreciating" it like i didnt when i was younger. :)
In the old days you'd often get this screeching feedback sound during the space jams. I like 'em better these days, too!
I have to agree with u on that because I didn’t like the drummers of old but they r so much better ! I think having them young genius,s with Bobby & drums make them feel younger also !
Thank you SO much putting this online!!!!!!
Shakedown sounds amazing on 1.25 speed
Was a great show!
For those of you that are negative you are obviously free to express yourself but if all you have is negative comments perhaps this scene isn’t for you. ReListen App will let you relive the good ole days with Jerry! I think the boys sound great and it’s exciting to watch Bobby work out new ways of playing these songs, Bobby and Jeff are a 4 armed monster.
Ol John is feeling the buzz
John, that 6 string had to cost more than a house in Malibu!!!! Gorgeous
Honestly, I have NEVER seen it's equal
Is it a "Strat"??? LOL
You could study a THOUSAND pieces of wood and not get that lucky
Awesome
It actually does sound really good at 1.25 speed... especially the shakedown.
agreed
Thank you Nugs. You made my day. And you are about to make my year with your couch tour
The first time I heard No Such Thing, I knew whoever made it was going to be a star. I didn't even know his name. Not a huge fan of John outside Dead &Co., but it was fresh and a great summer song. The man can play guitar. He's not Jerry. He just respects him.
Sounds good.
I got great seats up front for this last min. Missed Shakedown & Alabama Getaway due to security being extremely slow but, it was fantastic from It's All Over Now till we left right at the end of Stella Blue. We heard Touch of Grey from the car leaving. I saw them also at Fenway Park June 17th of 2017. It was a couple fun shows! Scarlet thru Drums/space was really sick... We were in the center section up front right behind the pit.
What does sick mean ? Good I hope !
Hey haters - Music isn't a competition. Dig it or change the channel. Simple. The whole idea is about fun and positive vibes. If you don't like it. go away!
Play At 1.25x speed they sound amazing, that's the trick with dead and co!!!
Daniel Snow bruh its fire at 1.25
Wow..
How do you play a youtube video at 1.25x speed?
Sacred Site Dave
Go into the settings option on your UA-cam and find the " playback speed" tab and you will see different options, " normal ", 1.25x, 2x Etc. then just choose the 1.25x option and automatically this band sounds full of energy and alive like it's 1985!
Adjust in the settings tab
I wish Oteil would sing more. He would do a GREAT: Black Muddy Water, Standing On The Moon, Althea and Row Jimmy.
I agree but John owns Althea now
Señor
I wish they all sung together ! They r all so talented ! ❤️❤️❤️✌️🫶🏼🤩

Whether you like Dead and Co or not, you should be happy that they’re keeping the spirit alive. Some Heads still follow the band around. There’s still a Shakedown Street. There’s still a sense of community and a “vibe” throughout the air/music. And Dead and Co have only been going on for a few years. Just wait a few more years and they will be improving and injecting life to the Dead. Plus, the Dead ALWAYS evolved. If the original Grateful Dead kept touring into 2018, they could have turned into what Dead and Co is/will be. Finally, at least they still have most of the original members.

When it comes to love, I want a slow hand. Slow down and listen to Shakedown Street with loving on your mind and let your body enjoy the warm embrace...these guys walked into the song and had no hurry, no place to go...just totally enjoying the moment! Loved every second of this night!
nICEEEEE lOVE THE POSITIVETY
Fully agree!
Shake it up, shake it up, shake it up now!
Mayer's playing gets better by the month. His solos on All Over Now and Brown Eyed Women were beautiful. The arrangement of All Over Now was totally different than the Dead's with a funky beat instead of Jerry's bluegrass feel. It's the band making the songs their own that makes Dead and Co so good with Mayer and Chimenti leading the way. If they could just figure out how to sound good singing Jerry's songs.
Jonny had his cool Nike sweats on last night I gotta get some of those. John Mayer is the Man thank god for him or I wouldnt be going to Alpine and Boulder cant wait ...
I agree wholeheartedly. Especially the All Over Now. They really are making these songs their own while full respecting the original versions. I noticed the same thing. Thanks for speaking it out loud!

I liked Jerry the best in his red t-shirt. That was a great era of the Dead. No pace complaints then.
Unfortunately had the worst trip of my life at this show. I think it was the beginning of the 2nd set. I just lost it, started screaming for my life. Had to be taken away in an ambulance and spent the night at local hospital. Horrible night. Took me like a year to come to terms with what happened. No more hallucinagens at shows for me.
Stepping into Jerry’s shoes, so to speak, is no easy feat, such that, watching as Bobby pulls Mayer out from under his signature B-road venturing during “Stella Blue” showed just how hard Mayer’s role actually is. In other words, all I can say is: ‘John Mayer, you’ve got balls.’ PS: Thanks so much for posting.
I enjoyed that
cleaner actually then the Dead ever were but just doesn't have what it takes to get up into the spheres, but is still remarkable that the music will never stop
