By Cult of Chucky, they had reunited. At the end of the movie, Andy makes a cameo, all grown up of course, and talks on the phone with his mom about plans for his birthday. You see an old photo of them together during the conversation.

However, if she didn't buy that actual Good Guy doll that Charles Lee Ray possessed (she could have gotten a Good Guy doll named Tommy from a different toy store now that the one that Charles Lee Ray was at was gone) then Andy would have gotten a non possessed doll living happily ever after with no problems (maybe taking the doll with him to school to have for show and tell) and then the Chucky doll that Charles Lee Ray possessed would have been sold to a different kid by the peddler having Chucky after that other kid instead (that is, if the kid was a boy).
Even if there's no serial killers possessed, I wouldn't buy a doll with that face.

One thing ALWAYS bugged me in the alternative sense:
Out of all the damn dolls in that store, The Peddler just HAD to pick up the one that was possessed by a killer. one out of 50 + Dolls and he picked up the one that was possessed by Charles Lee Ray.
Aside from living a rather normal life, does anyone else ponder what Life could have been for Andy if he had gotten the one out of other 50 some dolls that was NOT possessed by a serial killer? I think it would go in the way of:
Andy: "Hi, I'm ANDY. What's YOUR Name?.....
GG Doll: .....................
Andy: "He's broke."
Karen: "No, wait, Sweetie (looks in box) here we are- BATTERIES! He need's batteries!!"
And then you have Chucky, who MAY succeed in Killing Capudo MAYBE Norris as well, but then it is a little too late down the road and he then realizes he is trapped in The Good Guy Doll and now has to live out the rest of his life as a miniature Danny DeVito/Jack Nicholson love child. especially if he turned all human?

In hindsight this is heartbreaking; Andy is SO happy to get the doll and his mom is SO happy to have been able to get it....Knowing all the misery that follows.....It hurts to watch. (Still love the franchise though.)

Little did Karen know that by buying that doll from that hobo would turn the next three days into a living nightmare and then after destroying that nightmare she and her son would be separated. While she's deemed insane Andy is sent to home to home while needing to look over his shoulder. Finally at least in the end of Curse of Chucky Andy shoots Chucky in the face and gets revenge for not only him and his childhood but for his mom Mike Tyler and his foster family whose parents were killed by the same doll. And that is sad because Karen was trying to be a good mother.

Same could apply to Mike Norris as he shot Charles Lee Ray fatally at the start of the film and more or less caused the franchise to occur. If Mike reacted quicker and shot him dead in the toy shop things would had been different.

The other sad thing is that, on the day of Andy's birthday he was getting bad luck by getting screamed at by Maggie saying "go to bed", "under the covers" etc. and getting screamed at by his mom saying "Chucky is only a doll" which is a sad feeling to get screamed at on your birthday. The other sad thing for Andy was that he also got bad luck on the next day of his birthday because he was put in a mental hospital and was going to stay there for a few days and after being released Detective Mike Norris was going to put Andy away in an orphanage or foster home making his mom lose custody over him.
