Just realised the number 1 thing I love about your channel. I sit here with a massive grin on my face as I watch you react. You transmit your joy. Nice one mate.
When this song came out I was in high school. For Calculus class our teacher was a good looking young woman. One day during class while she was standing at the chalk board, one of the guys shouted "She's a Brick" and the whole class responded in a nasal voice "House!" She turned bright red and then faced away from the class toward the chalk board, but we could see her shoulders still shaking as she tried to suppress her laughter, which of course made us laugh uproariously, which made her laugh out loud. After a few minutes all of the laughter died down, and she continued on with the Calculus lesson without punishing the class. Such a cool teacher!
This song is my jam!! Another great funk type group to react to is Earth, Wind & Fire. EVERYTHING by them will have you grooving and dancing! A "brick house" is a woman with a great body! A term used by the black (male) community as an appreciation to a woman's built gorgeous body. Listen to the words again and you'll get it. 😁
The original idiom was "built like a brick shithouse." According to idioms online: "When a woman is said to be built like a brick shithouse, it means she has a very shapely figure." Of course for commercial radio airplay, the songwriters shortened it to brick house. The song was written by Lionel Richie, Milan Williams, Walter Orange, Ronald LaPread, Thomas McClary, and William King.
Still amazes me seeing someone listen to for the first time what I grew up on. I often expect everyone to have heard these classics. Gotta check out "Easy"
Yep, that is Lionel Ritchie, before he went onto a solo career. A lot of super cool and funky tunes by the Commodores. I also HIGHLY recommend anything by Earth, Wind & Fire. You might also check out Ohio Players. So many classic tunes, so much funk, so much awesomeness!
Another fun reaction, Mark! In regards to "brick house", I believe the saying originated as "built like a brick shithouse" and was originally used to describe men who had very athletic or muscular builds. After a while, the saying also came to be used to describe women with voluptuous builds. The Commodores adaptation, "brick house", is presumably meant to be a safe-for-1970s-radio version of the saying.
Yes that's Lionel Richie. Brick house means a woman is stacked in the right places (she has a rocking body). They even mention 36-24-36 meaning the numerical measurements of her hourglass figure at the bust, waist & hip size in inches.
Omg this brings back memories!. Lol . Yes that was Lionel Richie. A Brick house is a very well built woman lol. This is definitely a classic. Great Reaction as always ❤️
You don't know what she's a Brick House means ? ( 3:35 ) She's built, stacked... 36-24-36 😍 Just listen to the song a few more times, and you'll get it ✌️😉
Oh, yes, I know and heard of this danceable 🕺 song 🎶 ! The commodores are the best! And yes, that’s Lionel Richie. he has the greatest group ever. And as the title and the lyrics where they said, “She’s a brick house”, according to genius website research, it’s referring to a woman who is solidly built , well-shaped (hence the girl’s size 36-24-36), that turns heads”, but in a very strong way, which LR, and it’s known as a very flirtatious song. Another great song to listen to is “Easy like Sunday Morning”, it’s a recommendation song for anyone. Thanks for sharing your reaction and it’s a like and thumbs up.😄👍#thecommodores #lionelrichie
Lionel Richie used to be part of the Commodores back in the '70s. You are correct sir, that is Lionel Richie. This is a great song. I sing it at karaoke all the time lol
Yes thats Lionel Richie for sure. Brick house is in reference to a great body. The expression is "Built like a brick shit house" LOL They had so many good songs. One of my favorites is Sail On. Very different.
For a change of pace, check out "Easy" and "Sail On" -- also big hits for the Commodores, but more like ballads. Also, given that you enjoyed "Brick House," I think you'd like The Isley Brothers. Their song "Who's that Lady" and "The Pride" also have similar funkiness to "Brick House."
It’s so simple but the genius is the double snare hit. Sounds like more than you expect but less than you anticipate lol. I love the general way in which this song almost helped defined funky, but it’s still so laid back. The horns are subtle, not way up front like in say, Chicago (or even kool and the gang, to keep it in genre)

Yea this is a classic. I would have been surprised if you haven't heard of at least some of it. Here is a like and comment to help your channel grow and get you the recognition you deserve.
The height of this song was just slightly before my time (not much), but I remember it from "oldies" nights at the skate rink in the 90s. Dancing around on our roller skates, idk how we survived. 😆 I still bop and sing along with it now. I adore how genuine you are and excited you get it. It is infectious and definitely brings my day up!!
This reminds me of being a kid at the roller skating rink❤😂. This song was a staple for the limbo competition. To call a girl a brick house - you are saying she is built.
Hector, if you think that's funky the year before that 1976 were The Brothers Johnson. They had a song called Get The Funk Out of My Face. One of the brothers played the slap bass style. Quincy Jones was the producer of the album. Take it from a 65 year old ex DJ who rock that song at parties back in 1977.
I love the debates you have with yourself...it's Lionel Richie, is it?....I'm sure it is 😂😂🤣🤣 Definite banger baby making song 💯 Thanks for the smiles and laughs tonight! and the extra surprise!!!
I really love you and your channel! We need more of your enthusiasm and happiness in this world. I am so glad I found your channel and since haters gonna hate keep doing what you do.
Its Lionel Ritchie and his college buddies also known as the Commodores. This whole slbum is crazy good. S brick house is s girl thats reslly built. 36-24-36 are her measurements.
Yup, you're not crazy, that IS Lionel Ritchie before his solo career. I missed this reaction when it first went up - love your exuberance on this one! Not surprised this one rocked your house, it is a classic by any standard.
i Higly recommend you react to : *Disco Inferno (Edit)* Channel : *The Trammps: Tema* *Dr. John - Right Place Wrong Time (Official Audio)* Channel : *RHINO*
Brain Squeeze. Yes, that's Lionel Richie. He was the lead singer before of the Commodores. Brick House, refers to the natural shape of Black Woman. The have a size 36 breast 24 waist and a 36 hips or ass. A 36 ass is big and shapely, and when she walks she knows how to move and switch that ass. She can be built like an Amazon meaning she can be tall, shapely. They can be short too. It's a shapely woman who is not skinny. She has breast and hips. She can be statuesque.
The Commodores are amazing. Usually very chill. I would like to recommend that you listen to Earth, Wind & Fire. They are FIRE! I'll write in a few of their biggest hits. Let's Groove- (dance song with a contagious bass beat and synth) September- dance beat and smooth as silk After the Love Has Gone- smooth as a baby's bottom with amazing falsetto Shining Star- they went full funk Boogie Wonderland (Funk/Disco fusion) *Honestly, click on anything by them and you'll love it. They were amaing.
Definitely meant something different from when I was a kid vs an adult. She's "built" "stacked" Got a good figure. You know, the next generation had to come about somehow. This song helped. *wink
Lionel Richie was a member of the Commodores and sang lead on most of their hits but Walter Orange sings lead on "Brick House," as this video attests (Lionel plays saxophone). ua-cam.com/video/MtOlJfAGqxw/v-deo.html

Yes, Lionel Richie started with the Commodores and they were great. 36-24-36 built like a brick house.
A brick shit house is the actual saying
Lionel played the saxophone
Brick House... as in "she was built like a brick house"... 36-24-36... full figured woman.

Brothers Johnson too
and early Kool & The Gang-Jungle boogie, Spirit Of The Boogie and Hollywood Swinging.
When my mother was young, people used outhouses. Most common house was wooden. A brick (s**t)house was the ultimate.
I remember dancing to this song many times back in the day!! 💃💃

My dad used to say “she was built like a brick shipyard” in mixed company lol
Commodores lead singer was Lionel Ritchie who also wrote most of their songs
Spent many nights at the disco in the 70's dancing to this! Great days!
This song was played at every house party I attended back in the day. As always, great reaction. 💕
"Brick House" is the radio friendly version of the colloquial American expression "brick shithouse."
Yes that's Lionel Richie. Brick house means a woman is stacked in the right places (she has a rocking body). They even mention 36-24-36 meaning the numerical measurements of her hourglass figure at the bust, waist & hip size in inches.
Very well put classy
@@chrisbowins3302 Thanks.

How can any woman not wriggle her booty when listening to this song?
I was born in 72' I swear it was the most diverse decade in music 🎶💕 Bell-bottoms & Afro's for Days 🤣

Love this, for more funk try something by Sly and the Family Stone
My fav by The Commodores ❤
May be my favorite reaction to a song yet ! is it disco at its funkiest or funk at its discoest ?
She's well built like a brick house.
