- Actually meeting the voice actress for Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie has to be one of the coolest things that's ever happened to me. We were taking a CLE activity to the Super Con in Miami and I was cosplaying as Pinkie Pie. It was so awesome to get to talk to her and get her autograph.

What the hell Andrea? You couldn't take even 5 seconds of your life to just say hello to someone through a video?
I'm sure Andrea had her reasons, it was the way she went about it that's causing the backlash. She just sort of went a little TOO quiet after being asked and didn't really give out a friendly casual apology. It could come off as ignorant to many
+Vocalist92 I probably would have done the same thing since I have social anxiety. I used to always be in a Church function and I would always hang out in the back. Some of the people did come say hello to me of course, but then they went back into their own little "groups"

Okay I figured it out. Andrea thought that she was being asked to talk to the girl over the phone. The reason she thought this is because the person making the request drew out her words (used to many words). If the person asking had just quickly said "could you say hi to my friend Paula?", andrea definitely would have done it.
she's obviously not allowed to do or say anything on camera, I think she would have just said hi if she was allowed to, its called copyright
Was this in early 2013? If so then yeah there's probably a big reason she couldn't do voices for fans. The whole Derpy thing happened and when asked if she could do Derpy's voice at a con Tabitha said she couldn't. And also Tabitha recorded two clips in Rarity's voice for fan animations and that's a big no-no. I'm pretty sure Hasbro was cracking down at this point on actors lending out their voices for characters they own. The Twilightlicious thing got big and voices were starting to be used in stuff that's not exactly appropriate. Hasbro was always a little cautious about Bronies, but in 2013 they started to protect their brand. That's when Fighting is Magic was shut down, Jan Animations were hit, episodes were being removed from UA-cam. The Alicorn leak was happening around this time as well. The actors were definitely on a bit of a leash and Andrea likely just didn't want to tug on it. And even then, she doesn't have to do voices if she doesn't want to. She's a person and not a performance monkey.
It looks like a simple misunderstanding. I could barely hear what was being said myself. I thought Andrea said "Do you want me to make it up to you?" and then she repeated herself, "Do you want me to make it OUT to you?"
You can't hear shit on a loud convention floor. Again, I'm 99% certain it was a simple misunderstanding.
People dont understand, most company's that use the same actors "buy" their voice, so most VA'S cant give shoutouts in character voices. I dont think she's the kind of woman to do that, so try to take it lightly.
I'm not a Brony and all but I ment Andrea at the Cheesecake Factory and she was really nice when I talk to her.

She wasn't allowed to do a voice at Canterlot Gardens when I was there, either.

she probably couldn't because fans will use the pinkie or fluttershy voice in anamations and thats not part of her contracton. she probably isnt allowed to do so in her voices due to copyright
I'm slightly confused why Andrea didn't tell her the reason she couldn't say hi, but she was still polite to the end.
She does the "I'm sorry I can't help" lip bite thing. I'm pretty certain she's literally not allowed.
It's funny how you all act like you personally know her.
It was a disappointment. But still...awesome to have her autograph and meeting her face-to-face. :)

My advice to you lot is when you meet these people, keep it formal and professional.
She even acts like Fluttershy in real life when she doesn't to do the voices, I can't believe it!

For me, not having fans can be a blessing in disguise because my privacy is assured and I can still earn my living.
Well maybe she didnt do it because is must be tired to always please the fan but come one treat them like persons not like parrots
And I have lived in Miami all my life, and never have I seen a convention there
Listen everybody I met her she is super friendly and I asked her to do the pinky promise for me and she did the next day when I saw her again she did it for me again you guys really need to realize that there are rules at conventions and she may thought that she meant saying hi on the phone or something please don't bash her she really cares about the fans

Same. I think the first part was a misunderstanding as others have stated and her doing the voices was most likely prohibited by people higher up than her :( Her tone and lack of communication was probably due to tiredness, etc. I still think she's a great woman! She read as Pinkie to Michael Morones, a young brony who attempted suicide, while he was in hospital of her own accord!

Second, All she wanted was a shoutout. it takes just a few seconds to give a shoutout.
Also, for those who are saying that she can't because of Hasbro. Let's not forget that Hasbro made her famous for those two characters, so it's only normal that a lot of people are going to ask her to do the voices. Also, I don't why she didn't answer "Why not?" when that other lady asked it. Is it because she didn't want to or is Hasbro trying to tell her what to do? Andrea is protected under the first amendment just as anyone else. Stay strong Andrea. Give shoutouts when people ask and when you want to. Please don't let Hasbro or any company tell you what to do. If a company made you famous, then they have to deal with the price for that fame.

+Robert Campbell II because the first amendment you're speaking of is of the United States of America's constitution, which isn't Canadian law.
As far as first amendment, there are things called contracts. If you break the contract you agreed to you suffer the repercussions of breaking the contract, you may not be criminally prosecuted for breaking the law but that doesn't mean she can be irresponsible to her employer, and could potentially be held accountable for lost revenue if the employer could prove acting or speaking out about a contract cost them money.

Robert Campbell II um no. The reason why she probably didn't speak was because people will use her voice for animations and stuff and it's obviously not ok for them to do that. Hasbro is protecting her.
In her defense, she probably could have not said anything because usually at Cons you will have to pay extra for picture/more auto-graphs/audio recordings. I'm sure they made it very clear, yet she insisted on taping still. It caught Andrea Libman off-guard (because she didn't want to do a free-bee cuz other people paid) and she either would have to say "Sorry your gonna have to pay for it" or did what she did... its a lose/lose scenario
We don't know the facts, so lets not assume~
I think that it went down like this:
She wasn't allowed to use her character voice, since it probably was in violation of her contract with Hasbro. She could have said something if the camera was off, but in this case it wasn't. I think she kept silent, because she might have been afraid to say something in her Pinkie Pie or Fluttershy voice on accident, which would have gotten her into trouble. Her natural voice is rather close to the actual character voices, so I think, that she thought it would be best not to say anything at all. Videos can often skew the truth and context of a person's character. I've heard that she's a pretty great person! :)
Justin Carson I agree I don't think she realised the girl was filming at the start I think when she started talking about her friend Andrea looked up then thought oh crap she's filming me but maybe she didn't want to be rude and tell her to stop recording
She always seems so accommodating in other videos. That makes me think there was something more going on here that we don't know. Maybe people in line were instructed to not make special requests so that the line would go faster. Perhaps it was a misunderstanding and Andrea thought she was being asked to literally speak to Paula on the phone.
Kinda seemed like she was trying to make up for not giving a shout-out by offering to make the autograph out to her. Maybe she did have her reasons why she couldn't, who knows? Regardless, I don't think she deserves all this harsh backlash I'm seeing in these comments...
I'm pretty sure most voice actors can't give shoutouts in character voices because many companies essentially buy their voices so they aren't allowed to. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that's most likely why.

I would be too nervous about meeting her or any of the voices from the show. I have met a voice actor in October when I met Joey D'Auria who does Whisper from Yokai Watch another Hasbro product. I not only met Whisper but the final actor who did Chicago's Bozo the Clown. I was extremely nervous about meeting Joey being I grew up watching Bozo and I was a HUGE Bozo Fan heck I even had the vhs tapes of the cartoon Bozo was in lol. I have seen him as Bozo twice at Shriners Circus but I was far in one of the upper balconies so I didn't get a good view of him but good enough to see him.
Lol maybe she was just "fuck outta mah face, NERD". Ok I'm obviously just kidding, but the face she made did make it seem that way. xD

Wondering that? She is annoyed. You can be glad that she is so patient. after 20 request for the YAY YAY, it is still pretty cool. It is not a parrot and times when it is irritated, the NORMAL. Being and actor myself, I am always under orders NEVER to interact with the public while I'm working on set or on location.
then why do you have fans? The whole purpose of having fans is to interact with them. Isn't it?
it may have been a joke, but you're not 100% wrong. When a person gets famous, part of the reason that they are famous is because their fans helped them get famous. No fans can mean no fame. Now, I'm sure that there are exceptions to the rule, but in 98% of cases, the famous wouldn't be famous without their fans.

It's mostly because they are under contract not to do so. I work with these people so I should know.
that's a direct violation of the people's rights. The first amendment may not be in Canada, but she is a person as well. they should not restrict her because they have a popular cartoon.

It was about 25 bucks + 10 for a photo but I started crying a little bit so she gave me a free picture :P There was absolutely no line either! Ponycon NYC might be small, but it's definitely the best place to meet the VAs ^-^ I hope I can meet her again sometime! I tried to at Bronycon but it was crazy there! I wasn't expecting it to be so crowded! It was still really fun though :D
