  • The OrganicNation.tv crew visits Frog Hill Farm in Port Townsend, Washington to talk with Sebastian Aguilar about biodynamic farming.
An often misunderstood farming technique due to its roots in Rudolph Steiner's esoteric spiritual philosophy, biodynamic agriculture treats farms as unified organisms and emphasizes the relationship of soil, plants and animals. For more information, visit: www.biodynamics...

Great video! It's a new word for an ancient way of farming. You are creating a mini ecosystem so it is beneficial to the planet and its creatures on that principal alone. Anyone in opposition doesn't know what they are talking about...

This is exactly what can feed the planet. At present 60% of our food comes from smallholder farmers, we need to continue growing these modules of biodiversity that support environment and our communities. The UN support this concept, as does FAO (this is the international year of family farming launched by FAO to create awareness for this method of farming) Greenpeace have also produced an excellent report that underpins this concept. I have a very siimilar set up to Sebastian in central Italy, we are always happy to welcome people who want to come and learn and have a holiday in glorious Italy to boot!

Biodynamic farming is simply permaculture minus the unproven pseudoscientific magic. I don't see why we always try to over complicate things...

There wouldn't have been permaculture without Steiner's influence. But, yes. Yes, it is.

@@RobVollmar ....without Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe. Rudolf Steiner worked as an editor at the Goethe archives, where he learned everything about this philosophy

also how can we expect a nation to feed another nation on another continent? you cant, its much better to give the seeds to that nation that reproduces its seeds so that the nation can use the seeds it produced and use them in the next season.

Yrs ago a friend was using Steiner's planting tables and the black ground cover. But this one here looks plastic. There's nothing organic, nor would I think biodynamic about petro-chem plastic. I think my friend was using some black cloth-like material. Is this some form of biodegradable plastic?

the problem of feeding the world is a complex one. how do you plan to feed the world when oil is less available and much more expensive and there is no diesel, fertilizers and agro chemicals? the issue is more to do with not wasting so much food to start with. 40% of the grain grown in the united states goes to feed livestock. biodynamic agriculture can feed the world and it would along the way improve our warn out farmland create more jobs and bring life back into the food we eat.

Pretty simple, farms sell produce which have nutrients in it to other people and places, so farms need to bring in fertilisers from elsewhere to replace the nutrients removed. IF you are not doing that it is only a matter of time before you will not be a farmer.....sure close the system as much as possible but good farmers don't deplete their nature resource- they use fertilisers to maintain fertility

Comparing farming techniques on a square foot basis doesn't take sustainability, profitability or practicality into account.

Nice concept and fine to follow but can not feed the people on the planet.
