Took me hours to do this trick the first time I played the game, after 3~4 playthroughs I can finally do it in 2 or 3 tries, first one if I get lucky enough. But really, after you get the timing of the bomb jumping down it's pretty easy to do, even diagonal jumping becomes easy. Now, Super Metroid bomb jumping is another story, that one I could never get the timing down even after playing that one A LOT more than this one. Still SM's my favorite and will always be.
just did it today after revisiting this game on the switch lol had no clue it would lead to early varia suit, I just stubbornly wanted to sequence break the moment I got bombs
I figured out a way to do this where for the first bomb jump I press left and then hold right the rest of the time. The subsequent bombs push me left and then holding right the entire time keeps moving me back right into the next bomb. It takes more bombs but it doesn’t require as precise timing on the left/right movement.

I got super missiles earlier. But that's a bug, if you get the super missles from Brinstar(morph ball with speed booster), then, if you get the "first" super missile in Ridley, you'll get stuck after killing the giant fly, and the gray door will not glow, so it will not open.
@strongbadman2 If you go too far into Kraid's lair without the grip, you WILL get trapped (there's even a save point that you can't leave from too). This is because of that boss that requires you to be gripping the dolly before it shows up > _
***** There's a heated room in Norfair with a lot of blocks. Normally, you'd clear the blocks and Speed Boost through the barrier that's blocking you. You can practice your diagonal jumps to get through that room without the Speed Booster.
When you get this by luring the enemy up and then freezing him with the ice beam, and then doing the bomb jumps vertically and you think you're cool and then you see this dude with the diagonal bomb jumps making you look like a n00b. 😭
THAT IS WEIRD. Just YESTERDAY, I executed this early power-up thing with the infinite bomb-jumping, and then came onto here to see if there was a similar thing close to my method, and here it is! Lol.
you don't need the grip but I suggest you get it, I JUST did this, and it's pretty hard without the grip for some people, if you know how to walljump and quickly walljump again after getting hurt, then you should be able to do this

dialgaofpower2 you can actually reach this room from the other side useing wall jumps or bomb jumps. might be a bit late for being helpful but who knows

once you get the timing down for the first two bombs all you need to do is just keep pressing b every one second but not spamming. For the first two bombs i think you need to lay the second bomb the exact second the first one is about to explode.
Metroid Fusion has 3 second bomb timers, making it impossible to IBJ. Metroid Zero Mission has about around 1/4 a second in between bomb deployment, and detonation.

i actually got bomb jumping down in super before ZM though after mastering both i can say it is MUCH easier in ZM.

wish i had mastery of bomb jumps like this, i mean i can get it right most of the time but some segments take me a while.

No the gray door will glow, you just need to pick up the supers dropped by the bug

it took me 2 days of save scumming with MGBA but I managed to pull it off for the first time, I still require more practice however.
