@@houseofaction again though, chloe said he does not decide who gets to decide who gets punished and how, he said he does, that however is not true. - he gets to decide HOW people get punished, yes, however he does not decide WHO gets punished. unless being in hell but not tormented is an option, which does not seem to be the case as even he himself was tortured when he was "just visiting" that means he does NOT decide who gets punished. _"Is punishing the guilty justice? Or is it revenge?"_ Justice is not about punishment. Justice is about trying for equality that is not absurd. Everyone on the planet removing their eyes and genitals because blind people and eunuchs exist would be absurd equality. Punishing the "guilty" is about practicality (teaching them a lesson) or about revenge (they've violated your boundaries so you reciprocate to "nullify" the violation, "even the score").
Justice is revenge, the difference is just semantics. A murderer being executed or slapped on the wrist is still the same, a punishment is being given to him. The reason is because he killed someone. If the punishment is given by a dispassionate executioner or the victim's angry spouse... the result is the same. Justice and revenge are the same, we invent distinctions to make justice seem better and revenge seem worse... when ultimately they are the same.
@@Fordo007 "Murder" is a myth. And I just explained the difference between justice and revenge; justice is the pursuit of an equality that is not absurd. Revenge is not. Revenge is basically retaliation; you have moved against me/us to such an extent that I'm/we're now going to move against you as much or far worse until I/we *feel* satisfied (even if others deem it absurd) or something interferes. Punishment can be about teaching a lesson or about revenge. I'll illustrate: *Police officer:* _"This is your third time caught drinking and driving? That's it. It's revenge time!"_ *Drunk driver:* _"Huh? What, no one got hurAAGH!"_ (gets beaten to death) *Police officer:* _"That'll teach him to drink and drive."_ Is that punishment? Yes. Revenge? No. Justice? Definitely no. Teaching a lesson? Only in the sense that other people will have views about the event.
@@Fordo007 While you are basically right, it's a bit more nuanced. The "justice system" is simply organized revenge on a larger social level. This means the justice/revenge is usually less personal and more consistent. However, It's also worth considering that the definition of justice may be poorly explained by using any "justice system" as an example. If it's a subjective definition or even if true justice does not exist in any practical sense, I still think it's useful to keep the concepts separate. That's the purpose of semantics.
@@nemonomen3340 Not really, the justice system is about social equality, not social revenge. Even the death penalty is more about sending a message than society "getting the satisfaction of revenge". Justice does exist in the practical sense; it is the *pursuit* of an equality that is not absurd. It exists just like fishing and reading and jumping and philosophy and bodybuilding exist.
@@Mansplainer2099-jy8ps You're absolutely right that the death sentence is about "sending a message" but when an individual gets their "satisfaction of revenge" it is also about sending a message. That might not be the _conscious_ goal of the individual, but that is why vengeful attitudes naturally evolved. You don't steal from the guy who broke the last thief's kneecaps just like you don't steal in an area that has an effective justice system. It's interesting that you chose here to define justice as "the _pursuit_ of an equality that is not absurd" rather than simply "equality that is not absurd." The difference is vital and under the former definition, I would agree it exists practically. I, however, prefer the latter definition as it is how the word is generally used.
The first half of the season is more abt setting the tone & characters, but it really kicks in second half. You’ll get more of the anthology then. This is a great show, and Tom Ellis does an amazing job.

WOW i just realized that you couldn't haved notice it ! Back when it first aired, i was confused on how this dude was, because they recast the role of Trixies dad after the Pilot, i went back to last episode and yes, they put the new actor in instead. The szene at the school is a perfect example, he is either rotoscoped in the foreground or alone on screen xD
Guy in the nuthouse at the end was not the preacher in the street, it was Jimmy from episode 1, the guy that Lucifer revealed his face to after he shot Chloe.
Different people lead with different beliefs. Like emotion, rationality, science, faith. In this world I would say that seeing Lucifer's 'demon' face is enough to make anyone believe him, but it also terrifies the person seeing it and makes them go crazy.
That show is so good. and I appreciate that they do seem to focus a lot on the crime and detective aspect of it as well as the characters, which are definitely entertaining as well.
In the later seasons they explore the mechanics of Hell and punishment therein. They approach it in an interesting way and one I haven't seen in other media, though it could certainly be out there. As for, "When will Chloe finally believe him?" Well, it is pretty unbelievable to be fair. Even for people of faith, they usually imagine god and angels and demons in another plane of existence like heaven or hell. Accepting that not only is all that real but it continues to interact with the human world and plane just, whenever they feel like it, is a paradigm shifting thought. Plus, being in LA they're surrounded by performers and 'movie magic' and such, which is far easier to accept than being acquaintances with literally Lucifer.
There's some fascinating theological and philosophical questions brought up by watching this show, but for a lot of the continuity struggles within the writing you just have to "go with it." Because the main thing about this show is that it's fun (with occasional darkness that's also terrific). Tom Ellis is what makes this show so alluring because he just has so much fun with the character, but trust me, the other characters get more and more interesting as well. I hope you like it!
on the topic of how he relates to the greater DC multiverse...in the comics, Lucifer shaped the multiverse, and later settled on one Earth (presumably Earth 0) and opened Lux. in the show, they're in the Arrow multiverse, in their own universe, separate from the other shows. and about"infinite punishment"...in both the comics and show, it's explained that people only go to Hell because they feel they deserve to, and they stay there as long as they feel they deserve it. very few have ever left.
@@Mansplainer2099-jy8ps no. in both the comics and the show, Lucifer is the hero, fighting against his father's tyrannical rule, and at least in the comics, Yahweh isn't depicted as a sadist, but as an out of touch father who doesn't get it, and tries to do what's best for everyone, but doesn't know what that is. he considers undoing everything, do that nothing ever existed, at one point, to erase suffering, but Elaine talks him out of it, and he steps down as God so she can take his place.
@@nonplayablenpccharacter It doesn't really matter. You created Hell or you are the warden of Hell, either way, since "deserving" is a myth, you are having people tortured for "feeling they deserve to be" for "as long as they feel they deserve it" for what amounts to your personal satisfaction. And since "very few have ever left" and we're on a planet which has seen 3.4 million years of Stone Age and 6,000 years of post-Stone Age, for how long have the majority of "inmates" been there now, do you think?
@@nonplayablenpccharacter No? Then what do you call someone who watches you torture yourself for 3 million years with the reasoning "Well, you feel you deserve it and I'm going to watch for as long as you feel that way" when "deserving" is *a myth?* I see no difference between Yahweh and Lucifer in this case. EDIT: By that, I mean this is a Lucifer who was free to leave.

That is not necessarily true. It could be the whole creator who isn't really creating but subconsciously peer into supergirl's Universe and producing what he has seen with his universe supergirl who is an actress.
"Lucifer" is Latin in fact, meaning "light bringer" (it's the Latin word they picked when translating from the Biblical Hebrew). It's another name for Venus, also known as the "morning star". (fun fact: in the Bible it doesn't refer to Satan/the Devil or even a fallen angel but to a prideful king of Babylon)
So excited S5 is coming out soon and now you guys are doing reactions! One of my favourite shows and this makes it even better! :) I originally didn't watch this show because its a procedural, and I'm not keen on those, not to mention they're overused. A friend convinced me to watch it, and I binged all four seasons, twice, in about a week. Lol. (Thats probably an exaggeration, but I actually can't remember.) It gets better in later seasons.
Here's the trick for the Lucifer, Hell, and the DC Universe. There's an infinite number of alternate earths. But there is only one Hell. Only one. So Lucifer can visit any of them he chooses. So yes, Superman does exist somewhere out there. Also, in the DC Universe, the punishment you endure technically isn't eternal. It will last just as long as it takes for the person being punished to realize that he has endured a long-enough punishment for his sins. The moment you believe you have paid your pennance, you are released from Hell and enter the kingdom of Heaven. The problem, of course, is that very few human beings ever reach that point. (For instance, at one point in the comics, Lucifer has a conversation with a man who'd been in Hell for close to 4000 years, and still insisted that he deserved punishment.
I can't wait till they get to the point of the show when it lays out its rules for its hell and how that system works. It's the most unique way I've ever seen it done, and the most interesting and fun. It explores the types of questions they're asking as well, and that's why it's one of my absolute favorites.

Also, Jeremy Davies, who played the superman in Elseworlds, also played a key character in Lost, Saving Private Ryan, he played in Hannibal and American Gods, also provided the voice and motion capture for Baldur. in newest God of War videogame series.
Oh, I forgot. The name "Chloe" evokes a reaction with my Chihuahuas because I named one of them "Chloe" after Drew Barrymore's character in "Beverly Hills Chihuahua"! So because of that, I would rather refer to her as "Jane", "CY", "CD", or because of "Star Trek", "Decker Unit"! 😂 🖖

Alice from upstate NY.
I have a game for you guys: get a shot every time Lucifer says DETECTIVE!!! 😂👌🏻❤️
Ooh...I love that game😍🤣
Me and my sister played that for a 1 season binge and we got nice and toasted🤣🤣🥃🥃🥃🥃
Please continue this series! I didn't think i'd like Lucifer at first but it soon grew on me. You'll enjoy this one, the depth it brings is incredible! It's very introspective
I cant wait to see their reactions to the rest of the episodes
Good episode imo.
The case itself is fine but the interactions between Chloe & Lucifer elevate it , I like how it gives a bit more insight into Chloe’s past as well since she is a rather guarded person right now.
Also I buy she wouldn’t believe that Lucifer is the LITERAL devil , she doesn’t believe in the supernatural and this world doesn’t have any overt supernatural things happening in it . Also , she’s a detective and would need hard proof.
Yeah we need more specially now cuz season 5 drops soon
Lucifer is the best show ever
_"Is punishing the guilty justice? Or is it revenge?"_
Justice is not about punishment.
I'll illustrate:
*Police officer:* _"This is your third time caught drinking and driving? That's it. It's revenge time!"_
*Drunk driver:* _"Huh? What, no one got hurAAGH!"_ (gets beaten to death)
*Police officer:* _"That'll teach him to drink and drive."_
Is that punishment? Yes. Revenge? No.
1:24 yes, Lucifer has even had a small small cameo in another show, might have been the flash, Lucifer is in the Arrow Verse
They're gonna LOVE a new cast member in season 3
But who DOESN'T love that person? :D
indeedd
IceMetalPunk I honestly hate that character. Only main character in Lucifer I could never stand.
@@octaviablackthorn9 O_O Have you no heart, or just no soul?
Lucifer is one of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time. Keep with it 🖤🔥
re-watching this waiting for episode 3 to come out for them. So hope they continue this show.
Thank you guys so much for reacting to this. You made my year 100% more better.
I'm so happy you guys are watching this show!!! It just gets better and better as the episodes go on :)
The first half of the season is more abt setting the tone & characters, but it really kicks in second half. You’ll get more of the anthology then. This is a great show, and Tom Ellis does an amazing job.
13:27 yeah it was on the show flash I believe where there’s a multiverse and they invited a lot of iconic tv shows characters, if I recall there was also Clark from Smallville that was cool
Eric’s kink is paparazzi fights. Huh. The more you know.
Yeah, i was like wait what!? I thought there was a different actor
not sure about the superhero thing on Lucifer's earth but we do know from the crisis scene that he has met Constantine before
I like to believe they met in Hell
in the comics he exist outside the multiverse
Lucifer in the cameo: JHONNY
I was so friking happy and hyped when they showed the Lux on the Crisis...
Guy in the nuthouse at the end was not the preacher in the street, it was Jimmy from episode 1, the guy that Lucifer revealed his face to after he shot Chloe.
And I THINK it was you guys that commented that you were wondering what happened to Jimmy in your episode 1 review? If that was not you, my apologies.
i love that you guys are reacting to this!
Different people lead with different beliefs. Like emotion, rationality, science, faith.
In this world I would say that seeing Lucifer's 'demon' face is enough to make anyone believe him, but it also terrifies the person seeing it and makes them go crazy.
Tom Ellis so good playing Lucifer 😈❤❤❤
Looking foward to your reaction to season 5 already! Please don't drop Lucifer! There will be episodes where you'll want to but don't please!
You guys need to react to The Mentalist, its a crime show with one of the best main characters and one of the best serial killers on tv.
Can't wait for you guys yo react to the whole series
Keep the season going! Love the reviews!
aaaaanybody else feel like its been 100 days since the first lucifer reaction? been waitin forrrrever for wednesday to come back around lol
Love the vids guys been watching for a few years i love the lucifer reactions
Just found your channel because of the Lucifer reactions ! Please continue to keep reacting it only gets better from now on 👏👏 New sub here ❤️
I love this show so much!! Can’t wait for you to get into later episodes and characters!
Seasons 1, 2 and 3 were produced by fox, after that it was bought by netflix, soo it's not a DC/Warner production
Spoiler Alert: This Lucifer makes a brief cameo in the CW ArrowVerse during the Crisis crossover.
I'm surprised they haven't realized that seeing they've already reacted to the crossover before they did this
13:15
They mention this during the reaction
@@Knowledgesquad1 I wrote this before I reached that part.
Yessir love the lucifer reactions more please and stay safe
Interesting theology discussion. As a pastor, I love this show and it’s portrayal and interpretation of hell
I love this series. Its hilarious!
9:15 Tell me this guy doesn't look like a young Cuba Gooding Jr
Hope you guys keep watching it! It just gets better! 😈
Its so fun that you react to this series
Omg.. I watched your reaction on the 1st ep. so many times.. Love your reactions
Banafsha Tariq same here I can’t wait till they get to season 4.
on the topic of how he relates to the greater DC multiverse...in the comics, Lucifer shaped the multiverse, and later settled on one Earth (presumably Earth 0) and opened Lux. in the show, they're in the Arrow multiverse, in their own universe, separate from the other shows.
and about"infinite punishment"...in both the comics and show, it's explained that people only go to Hell because they feel they deserve to, and they stay there as long as they feel they deserve it. very few have ever left.
So, since "deserving" is a myth, God and Lucifer are sadists.
@@Mansplainer2099-jy8ps no, it does matter. you can call Yahweh sadistic, kind of, but there's literally no reason to say that about Lucifer
@@nonplayablenpccharacter No? Then what do you call someone who watches you torture yourself for 3 million years with the reasoning "Well, you feel you deserve it and I'm going to watch for as long as you feel that way" when "deserving" is *a myth?*
I see no difference between Yahweh and Lucifer in this case. EDIT: By that, I mean this is a Lucifer who was free to leave.
season 5 comes out this fall and fun fact, this show is base on the dc comics version of Lucifer(nvm they figured that out)
@ᒪITTᒪᗴ ᖴᖇᗴᗪ ᗷᒍÖᖇᑎᗩ
No August 21st
Tom Ellis who plays lucifer also played Thomas Milligan in the Doctor Who story Last of the Time Lords. Ellis is best known for his role as Gary in the BBC sitcom Miranda, opposite Miranda Hart, and has also appeared in series such as EastEnders, Merlin and Lucifer.16 Jun 2020
People not knowing that Superman is Clark Kent because he takes his glasses off is more crazy then believing someone is the actual devil
Everyone: Lucifer is the devil!
Lucifer: I'm the devil!
Cloe: I will find out what's going on with Lucifer!
The thing that I realized on the rewatch is that Lucifer kicked the guy in the nuts while time was slowed down, so from the guy's perspective he got kicked in the nuts at superspeed, which is... ouch to say the least
To answer the question lucifer is in the dc multiverse, they confirmed this in the crisis on infinite earth crossovers and also all the questions you asked will be answered, which is not common for every show
This series only gets better
Easily one of the most entertaining shows to watch and the character development is A1, every season gets better and better and this is my favorite Lucifer portrayal including supernatural
Not exactly a spoiler, but the best proof this isn't part of the arrowverse is eventually you'll see billboards advertising Supergirl on the CW
It's in the multiverse on Earth 666
@@ras_alhim everything's part of the multiverse. Doom patrol, titans, swamp thing. Prior to Crisis black lightning was very specifically not in the arrowverse
That is not necessarily true. It could be the whole creator who isn't really creating but subconsciously peer into supergirl's Universe and producing what he has seen with his universe supergirl who is an actress.
Lucifer is not part of the Main DC Universe continuity, but Constantine establishes that he's on Earth 666
By the way, the name "Lucifer" is Hebrew for Morning star.
I originally didn't watch this show because its a procedural, and I'm not keen on those, not to mention they're overused. A friend convinced me to watch it, and I binged all four seasons, twice, in about a week. Lol. (Thats probably an exaggeration, but I actually can't remember.) It gets better in later seasons.
Thanks for the reaction!
He also played Tom Milligan, the fiance of Martha, in Doctor Who
Ooo my my.... I love being the center of mortal attention.
Thank you reactors.
This show is a good way to kill time
when would u continue lucifer?
i really like ur reaction to the show
Here's the trick for the Lucifer, Hell, and the DC Universe.
I love this show
I'm here waiting for you to get to season 4. The best one in my opinion.
Always nice to see baldur
The first and second seasons of lucifer was film in Vancouver Canada.
I live in LA & Calvin is absolutely right: “it is Hell”
If you didn't catch it the guy Lucifer was questioning at the start played the Doctor with the book in the Elseworlds crossover
I Love this series
I can't wait till they get to the point of the show when it lays out its rules for its hell and how that system works. It's the most unique way I've ever seen it done, and the most interesting and fun. It explores the types of questions they're asking as well, and that's why it's one of my absolute favorites.
“Pot doesnt mess with your motor function.”
Marijuana significantly impairs judgment, motor coordination, and reaction time, and studies have found a direct relationship between blood THC concentration and impaired driving ability.
Well sir
There's no secret if I'm telling you the answer. 🤣
I only ever watched one season of this show, after this series of reactions is done I'll have to catch up.
Also, Jeremy Davies, who played the superman in Elseworlds, also played a key character in Lost, Saving Private Ryan, he played in Hannibal and American Gods, also provided the voice and motion capture for Baldur. in newest God of War videogame series.
Hope you guys watch all of the seasons you'll love them
Oh, I forgot. 😂 🖖
He was also in two episodes of doctor who.
yes and our Doctor Jones really fell for him ;P
i think how the time stop power works , is it slows time down enough so that people CAN NOT notice them , so when there looking right at them its super slow , if its people driving at 85+m/hr then it can be faster
7:40 I don't remember Lucifer being this cool.
