    Ray castile is absolutely magnificent, the frankenstein robot episode of course is without a doubt my very favorite episode because I have been obsessed with the frankenstein monster since I was a child. The knowledge of Ray Castile is amazing I just love to watch this man I really wish one day to you. Thank you David Q.

    You have an impressive example of the iconic Marx Frankenstein Robot. The original box is gorgeous. I've been shopping for one of these for years, but due to the price I never pulled the trigger. I've mostly tapped out on it, but as long as we draw breath you never know... Very interesting and instructive video!
    I checked the Sears Christmas catalog pages, and the 1963 edition is the only one with the Marx Frankenstein Robot. By '64 the fashionable trends were Marx playsets, Remco Hamilton's Invaders, Hasbro G.I. Joe, and other things. So, the fact that this toy was only widely advertised for one year helps explain its scarcity and some of the mystique surrounding it.

    • @RaymondCastile
      @RaymondCastile  Рік тому

      Thank you! I bet this toy was available in stores longer than one year. It might have only been produced for one year, but toys often lingered in stores for years and years back then. There wasn't nearly the kind of turn around there is today.

    You have a wonderful show. I never seen a channel deep dive on memorabilia like you do. For a week now I been checking out all your seasons, and damn your collection is impressive. In my head head your basement turns into a huge warehouse, and your black cat is driving a forklift. He drives the forklift to organize your collection, and he keeps feeding you boxes so your show runs smoothly.
    That’s how I imagine your operation working.

      I haven't delved into this A.I. art that everyone is so fascinated by, mostly because I am worried about data mining. But I am tempted to get into it just so I can create this image of my basement operation, with Billy driving a forklift.

    Great video Raymond. As I mentioned on one of your previous posts, I had the Frankenstein robot as a kid. This would have been back in 1963/4 when I was 8 or 9 years old. Regarding the different colour shoes/boots, I read somewhere, that it was down to costs with regards to the colour? I guess they had to make up a new batch of brown paint just for the boots. Whether there's any truth to that, who knows. Mine was black booted. Nobody seems to know for sure which colour came first.
    I also had at least 8 of the Aurora models too. The Hunchback and Dr Jekyll were faves, as they both had lots of extra bits n' bobs to them. For some reason or other, I don't think I had the Frankenstein model.

    • @RaymondCastile
      @RaymondCastile  Рік тому +1

      As a kid, I had every Aurora monster kit except the witch and Bride of Frankenstein. I still have several of my childhood Aurora kits, but they are busted up, except for my Hunchback. I restored him.

    • @RaymondCastile
      @RaymondCastile  Рік тому

      Thank you! They are just cotton gloves. I have a bag of them, but I'm still using the same pair I started using on the show years ago. A book collector friend of mine told me that you should not use gloves on books and other paper collectibles. The fibers in the gloves actually damage the fibers in the paper.

    The vacuform plaques would be more expensive and rare than the Marx robot. But, this is certainly up there with the best of them.

    • @RaymondCastile
      @RaymondCastile  3 місяці тому

      I think this robot is the symbol of monster toy collecting. It's not my favorite toy...that would be the AHI Creature. But it's the most iconic monster toy ever made. There are a lot of toys that are rarer and more expensive, including the plaques. But the plaques are much more esoteric and obscure. A mint, complete, sealed MPC Haunted Hulk would be rarer and more expensive, but also more niche. Heck, my favorite toy, a carded AHI Creature, is 10 times rarer and significantly more expensive than a boxed Marx Frank...but again...it's not as iconic.

    • @John-uu1wu
      @John-uu1wu 3 місяці тому

      The Frankenstein head speaker is up there in rarity. I just don’t care for that personally. The box art on this robot is epic imo. I never had this as a kid, even though I was 7 years old by 1963. I recently acquired 3 of the plaques. Frankenstein, Wolfman & the Mummy. Can’t remember if I had any as a kid, but if I had to guess, I would say no. If I had to say what I feel are the most iconic monster toys from the 60’s, I’m going with the Aurora monster models. I didn’t know any kid that didn’t have at least one of them, and usually the entire line of monsters. Anyway, nice video! I think I may have to seriously consider tracking one of these down, it’s just that cool!

      I have a clean version of that episode of the Munsters you can see a very fine wire going to the robot and it was just to make it walk … I had one these robots
      in the early sixties when it came out I was wondering where it went one day only to find out that my sister tossed it in the garbage … my happiness wasn’t hers …. :-( I was fortunate to have gotten one on EBay for an incredible price with a repro box …. And it works … “It’s alive”!!!!! The Frankenstein Robot was also in an episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents “The Magic Shop”

      @@louisborselio8608 Hi Louis Thanks for the reply I bought the Munster series on iTunes you can see a very thin wire attached to the back of in the same spot that the controller wire was attached super thin but it’s there the scene is just the robot walking from behind the couch so I guess they attached a wire just needed to make the legs move… I’ll see if I could get a screen capture of it .
      As far as my sister just a another miserable person picking on a four year happy kid that was into music and monsters…. All that aside I’m still happy and she’s still miserable… 😜

    100% Correct: Monster & Science Fiction toys have an audience that back pedals on older toys . Younger audiences like SELECT older toys . NOT so for things like cowboy toys from the 1950s ! Or something like Howdy Doody . You HAD to be there . Just like young record and music collectors will go back to the Beatles , but NOT doo-wop music. Even Elvis is not very popular w/ younger collectors .
