    Key concept: Every time a retriever hears the sit whistle he should understand that he needs to change directions with the next cast. Therefore stopping a dog and sending back to the original destination sends the wrong message. Whistle sit...ALWAYS change direction with the next cast....makes the T and double T more efficient in terms of teaching that key concept of no whistle= lining the correct route, whistle=need to change destination with next cast

    If you need to force fetch, you need to upgrade your pedigree and spay or neuter the dogs you've got. Learn to train.

    clearest break down of a drill I've ever heard. A lot of times amateur trainers cant help the dog understand because they in-fact don't understand. you killed the explanation & your podcast (Lone Ducks Gun Dog Chronicles) is Fire!!!!

    Hey Bob! Not sure if you take questions or not but I’m going to throw one out there if you do. Just got back from opening day of duck season in Vermont, my buddy’s yellow lab is 3 years old and has been great in the past. This morning he would hammer after downed ducks and once he’d have them in his mouth he’d just drop them and stare at them or walk super slowly back to the boat with them. He’ll usually hammer out and haul butt back. Not sure if he’s ill or just unmotivated, any tips would be great! Thank a bunch.

    One of the last donts you mentioned was don’t use orange bummers why is that? Is there a place for orange bummers in training?

      Appreciate the kind words. We'll never be as awesome as Standing Stone but we'll try to keep up. We're huge fans of them, too.

    IMO...this drill should be called "GO" "STOP" "COME". This isnt where a dog learns to handle. Just my 2 cents.

      I’m curious, because I’m new to this. In your opinion how do you teach a dog to handle?

    • @lukecolohan3761
      @lukecolohan3761 3 роки тому

      I still run single T i just think there is a misconception in what we as trainers are trying to teach the dogs. I still teach/run all the drills. Pattern blind, blind drill and diversions and walk arounds. Before i ever try to run a cold blind. Look at Dennis Voiggts 25 essential retriever training drills for handling.

    Are the 3" bumpers better for visability? Any reason you wouldn't do the smaller bumpers?

    • @loneduckoutfitters
      @loneduckoutfitters  4 роки тому +1

      Yes but mostly that's what we use for training, so that's what we have. If you only have smaller ones, use 'em.

    How is it that you teach the dog to turn around and look at you when you have the dog sit on the whistle?

    Bob, first time long time lol. Just wanted to say I’ve been an amateur trainer for a long time and I often struggle with making drills make sense and I started watching your videos and you just talk at a blue collar level without the arrogance of others I’ve heard try to do these videos. Thank you and if you’re ever in Montana I’ve got 22 acres you’re always welcome to train or air dogs any time!

    Hey Bob,
    Could you do a video on doing more advanced hand casting? I know when a dog gets more advanced, they can do different directions besides hard right, hard left, back. For example, they could go diagonal to the right etc. how would you teach this? Thanks!

    I know this is an older video, but does that little bit of mouthing when returning the bumper cause an issue for you? I’ve got a 6 month old that I’m about to FF and she’s pretty mouthy (cigar holding, rolling a bumper, etc)

    • @loneduckoutfitters
      @loneduckoutfitters  3 роки тому

      it depends on how bad it is but FF should help correct this.
