Years ago I built a 22x257 Ackley. Started with a 257 Ackley necked down for 22 caliber. Shot 80gr Bergers at 3710 fps from a 28" Shilen barrel, 7 twist. Only needed 17 min elevation at 1000yds with a 100 yd zero. Had enough energy to sometimes shoot all the way through 1" mild steel plate at 500 yds. The ground hogs were not impressed. lol

Nice seeing the 22 cal at ELR. I've been shooting a 22-250AI with a 1/8 twist and loading 80-88 grain ELD's at 1 mile for several years, and we are shooting at an 19"x19" plate. Except when the wind is high, we are hitting about 75-80%. I've never tried over 2,000 yards with such a small caliber, so even with no hits at such an extended range, it is nice to see it really reach out there.

LOL....very consistant....what a set-up!!! ..... in the old days we were chasing the target at 1400-1500.....great shoot.... review your footage, because you appeared to be unsettled at first, anticipating the squeeze a little bit, but we didn't shoot as good as you do when we were doing our thing 50+years ago.....great video.....I still hunt with my old 250-3000 (never owned the 22 cal version.....never need one) and still sometimes shoot my old custom model 70 (it only weighs 6.3 pounds, no muzzle brake, I am 70 years old, it hurts my neck nowadays to shoot it with the 220 grain so I don't shoot it often)...... anyway I never shot lots of paper ..... I will say you sure shoot well.....cool gadgets nowadays for sure....I do enjoy the videos

I didn't see the barrel twist details but surprised the bullets are holding together at that velocity. The problem I recently learned about shooting heavy 22's is the twist required to stabilize them limits their max velocity due to high RPM and jacket limitations.

have you guys ever tried different metals for bullets or just buy off the shelves? i'm slowly learning and so far most bullets are lead, just wondering if possible to make bullets with other types of metal(for target practice only of course) lead is heavier than titanium, would a bullet made in titanium (set aside the cost) have a faster velocity or drop elevation slower? could it survive the blast of the cartridge and would it affect the rifle as in "only use bullets intended for the specific rifle" ect..? (only using titanium as an example) thanks, cool videos by the way 😎
