I lived in Kiribati for two years and was able to speak the language fluently. While the living conditions are not great, the people are some of the nicest most generous people in the world! Watching your video makes me want to go back! They also have the dumbest chickens...
Most pacific islands have so much care for people - especially strangers. We take care of strangers to show how our ancestors have taught us and we still continue to show our hospitality.
My husband is from Kiribati. We have family that still lives in Tarawa, Kiribati. Makes me miss the island. Also makes you appreciate what we have in America.
I am from the pacific island and I wanna sure you guys that traveling to the Pacific island especially to those outer isolated island of Micronesia there's zero crime there. Most of our people are christianity. very respectful and very humbleness. The only thing that you need to be aware of is the mosquito, so of course bring mosquito lotion to help you.And also pls respect the people and don't make fun of the way people live.

Hi there i just saw on a video that you are from Kiribati and I would like to ask if you could help. I am a postcard collector. Until now, I only need about 10 countries and I will have a postcard from every country on earth. If you know someone from Kiribati, who could send me one, I would glaldy pay 10€. Is this possible?
Yes I was a peace corp volunteer there and was not surprised that you can show up anywhere and someone will ask you for tea and want you to stay with them. I-Kiribati hospitality is golden. You really need a mosquito net tough. How can you be traveling in the tropics and not know that??
Hi Jordy and Chloe, nice to watch your memory video and sharing the same "family" together. I didn't get to pick yous up and we never get to see each other again before you left. We got stranded for another 2 weeks and luckily came back on a charter flight from the airline before the coronavirus thingy. I never went back to where we first stayed as I got sick most of our trip.It started the same day I left you at the bus stop. Anyway, nice to meet you there and grateful to my lovely family who we met at our arrival. Greetings to you and hope to see your next video with your kids in :) God bless!
Akineti Moataake we were hoping you would find this video and comment! We never had a chance to say bye and thank you guys. I’m so sorry you got sick, but glad you made it out and back home safely 💜

Great video, and thanks. Kiribati is one of my must see dream locations. So...if you guys are going to travel like that, maybe you should consider carrying some ultra-basic, ultra-light camping gear. Two-man ultra-light tent...a couple of therma rests... inflatable pillows... emergency reflective blankets...water purification...all of this would be light, small, and in such a situation as you experienced, you could just sleep out side (more comfortably).
I've just seen this clip and it's very interesting that you guys were able to travel and face whatever it is out there.. Next time you in Kiribati, let me know so I can show more of the island. Love your vlog.

A great video, but is that it? Didnt you explore the lagoon and palm islands (motu) surrounding the lagoon? You know, some of the most stunning tropical islands are found in Kiribati.
Mosquitoes in the pacific?? on a remote island? Did not expect that. I was once in Grenada in the Caribbean, and in the Philippines. In both places, i didn't get a SINGLE mosquito bite. And they're both very tropical countries. In the Gambia in Africa however, there were a LOT of mosquitos. Especially for the dry season... So I assumed that it's because the Gambia has lots of mainland around it and Grenada and Philippines are Islands with moving seas around it. Apparently, even if theres nothing but moving sea around a remote island, like Kiribati, there STILL are mosquitoes... I wonder why. Maybe because the waters in side the Atoll are quite stationary?
From what I read it was a by product of swamp taro (babai) cultivation which was the traditional form of agriculture there, the resulting freshwater lenses dug up for swamp taro becoming stagnant over generations of constant cultivation, when I was there I saw dragonflies easily the size of rats lol.
