every time I see a magnus tournament after watching other top grandmasters play, I just keep being reminded how far ahead magnus is compared to the vast majority of grandmasters. he's literally so good that he accepts losing openings against other gms because he doesn't care that much about losing and he knows he can win even if he's down in the opening. the man only plays actually serious openings against a few super gms, other than that he forces weird games and then wins them based on his superior endgame skill, it's crazy
i think thats why he doesn't want to play world champion against gukesh, gukesh and ding tied a lot of games and i think magnus just thought that he would easily win both of them
For me its how he almost always plays for the win and generally dislikes draws. You know you are getting a real game when he is involved. After this shameful WC we need him back in the game forcing people to play for wins.

Whenever one of them were in a winning position they put so much pressure to the opponent that the opponents crumble and lose. What is also quite interesting is there is also a big physiological factor in there, before a match/fight starts the opponent is already mentally under pressure whether they like it or not because they know they are going to face one of the Goats of their respective sports 👏💯
I’ve had an idea. Mana chess. Each piece requires its own value as cost to move it. With the exception of the King/castling. You start with 3 enough to move a knight. Each turn you gain 2 enough so that moving pawns is resourceful. Capturing a piece gains you that much mana.

the thing is: everyone knows that Magnus is still the best in the world. even Garry Kasparov said the WCC is useless when the best player doesnt play it. And Magnus is right, as long nobody blunders (unlike Gukesh and Ding all 12 matches alternately), the WCC is very boring. you see so often the perfect 2 moves because of this long prep time. I had not much fun the most time watching the final, because i want see interesting chess and not a blunder-party at the point the prep is over like this (of course blunders because of high pressure is possible and normal for us humans but all 12 games and everytime directly after the prep?)
