  • Ever since moving to Europe, we have heard a lot about direct trains from Germany to Paris and we knew we wanted to give that experience a try! In this video, we made it happen, but this time we leave Brussels to head to the City of Love; Paris.
    We loved being able to relax on the train and experience Paris for the first time! We all loved trying new foods and seeing iconic sites like the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, and Notre Dame cathedral. Although it was a quick trip, we made some great memories with Tanner's parents.
    Thanks for watching! Be sure to subscribe to keep following along our adventures here in Europe.

    A loving family exploring the city of love and helping others propose to their loved ones. What could be better? The way Willa is able to express herself vocally. She's growing so fast. Her "thanks for watching, see you later..." gave me an extra smile and the perfect ending.

    If you ever want to go back to Paris there are a lot of non-stop trains from Germany too! For example you can get there in 3 hours from Stuttgart or 4 hours from Frankfurt by ICE or TGV.

    As someone who lives in Paris but whose family lives nearby Cologne I really appreciate the Thalys getting me home in under four hours, not always free of delays and stress, but still the speed is unbeatable!

    Great video of your train trip to Paris, France. Those high speed trains are amazing. When we were in Paris, we did a boat tour on the Seine river and it was interesting hearing the history of all the ancient bridges that you go under. The Eiffel Tower was something to see and we didn't go to the top either. Thanks for sharing your travel with Tanner's parents with us.

    If you are interested in long construction times of giant buildings you should definitely look up the history of the Kölner Dom. Started in 1248 and was finished in 1880, and there is a lot of story to explore for that whole period.

    For the next time visiting Paris, I highly recommend to visit the platform of the skyscraper 'Tour Montparnasse' instead of the Eifel tower. It is much cheaper, far less crowded and you'll have nearly the same view of the city.
    But guess what you can see from there, what you can't see from the Eifel tower: The Eifel tower!
    Grüße aus der Südpfalz!

      There's a saying, the best views of Paris is from the roof of Tour Montparnasse because from there the Tour Montparnasse can't be seen.

    Your little one, just lights up a room. Makes me smile, every time. Back in the 80ies, I went to the Eiffel Tower with my brother. We decided to walk up to the first platform, because it didn't look so strenuous from the bottom. Oh boy, were we wrong! By the time we got to the 1st platform, we decided to take the elevator to the others. The top platform floor is not concrete like the others but metal, and you can feel the vibrations of people walking on it. My brother had a freak out up there and hugged the wall, while I went all around and took pics. I also got a couple of cool posters for free that were put up all over Paris from Art Galleries, printed with their art on them. One was hanging on the door of a boulangerie and the exhibit dates had already passed, so the owner who happened to visit my home town in the States once a year, rolled it up for me to take home. Sometimes you just have to ask. I had them professionally framed, and they still are on my walls and look so cool. Maybe next time you can visit the Louvre and Versailles.

    I like Paris, I’ve done all the highlights but I like Paris most for its architecture, the modern buildings, like Centre Pompidou or La Defense (Nanterre) or Bibliotheque Francois Mitterrand, the old buildings, museums, churches, stations, you name it. And don’t forget the beautiful parks, I liked Jardin du Luxembourg, Jardin des Tuileries, Esplanades des Invalides, Champs de Mars, Jardin des Champs-Elysees and Bois de Vincennes. Or the broad boulevards and the university quarter. You can walk until you lost all your excessive weight or you can take public transport, especially the RER is excellent to crisscross the city. I too took the Thalys from Amsterdam Central Station to Paris Gare du Nord. The high speed train is very relaxing. There is so much to see, I haven’t seen 5% of what Paris has to offer so I have a lot of visits in the pipeline.

Great landscape for hiking and lovely small villages with great architecture and food. I would also like to recommend to you the beautiful Bretagne! It is the most Western place in Europe and the most geourgious place, I have ever been (in Europe). Great coast, a lovely landscape, beautiful nature, but unfortunately quite far away.

Well, next Christmas is coming and may be Tanner you can fullfill a kids dream and having an own train at home. It must be strange in Ostend now that the ferries to Dover no longer operate. I took the ferry umpteen times between 1967 and 1982.
    French onion soup: Use plenty of onion, 2 medium onions per person. Slice the onions and sauté in extra virgin olive oil over a very low heat for at least 20 minutes, turning constantly. Sprinkle in some salt and pepper to taste. Cover the pan so that steam builds up. Then add 600ml of boiling water and a vegetable stock gel, e.g. Knorr, and a bay leaf. Simmer the soup for 10 minutes, then add a dash of Worcestershire sauce and simmer some more. Finally, thicken the soup with a teaspoonful of corn starch mixed in a small amount of cold water. The bread and grated cheese is optional. I make this soup all the time.

    The one thing I couldn't get used to was when we were in Germany this summer was paying for water at each meal. On our way home we had a brief layover in Washington DC and ate our first meal back in the US at one of those terrible airport restaurants, and all we could talk about was how great the free waters was! ;-)

    • @stephanweinberger
      @stephanweinberger 2 роки тому

      In many restaurants you can ask for tap water though (which is of very good quality in Germany), and they'll usually just charge a small fee for the service.

    • @DalaiDrama-hp6oj
      @DalaiDrama-hp6oj Рік тому

      I wouldn't hang up too much on that:
      Restaurants... that is always a mixed calculation, if they put free tap water on the table you pay more on other things.
      In Italy for example water is free but you pay for the dishes/dishwascher. So what?
      I'd always prefer to just enjoy the meal and experience. If too expensive don't go inside...

    The Eiffel Tower was built in 1889 for the world exhibition. It was supposed to be demolished afterwards, but a radio station was installed beforehand. The tower remained standing and can be used as a lookout tower ever since.
    Have you discovered the Statues of Liberty in Paris?
    There are five of them in different sizes in Paris. The sixth and largest was given to New York by France.
    The inner framework of the Statue of Liberty in New York was also designed by Mr. Eiffel.
    The smaller statues in Paris always served the artist Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi to build an even larger statue until the largest was finished.

      Notre Dame, the entire roof was held together by lead. But the lead melted during the fire and had to be laboriously removed. Aspetos was not yet known in the Middle Ages.
      A whole forest of thick oak trees is needed for the new construction of the roof structure. Trees that are sought throughout Europe because they are rare.

    Next time you visit Paris don't bother to go on top of the Eiffel Tower because you get only half the view of the city. Instead go on top of the Tour Montparnasse, a 210 m high skyscraper. From there you have the perfect view of Paris with the Eifel Tower and all the other amazing buildings and parks. It's 15 Euro per Person but totally worth it. And since you are from the USA a little fun fact... There are 5 Statues of Liberty in Paris that look just like the one in New York: two in museums, one in a park, one on a small island in the Seine and one as a figurehead on a boat close to the Eiffel Tower.

      I have been there a lot of times and i wouldn't say the city is overrated. But it is a very dirty city compared to other places in Europe. And yes, like many other big cites in the nort-western part of Europe it is quite expensive. But in comparison to for example Oslo it is quite cheap. ;-) For sure there are nicer big cities in the world than Paris.
      I would recommend Budapest, Vienna (Wien), Prague, Munich (München), Montevideo or Buenos Aires.
