- Easy and safe to process, SILCOLEASE™ Emulsion Thermal Range
Elkem Silicones’ SILCOLEASE™ Emulsion Thermal technology range offers unique benefits for many applications and is the technology of choice for paper machine application.
What is an Emulsion?
A silicone emulsion release coating is an excellent way to safely and easily apply a release coating onto a wide web flexible film or paper. An emulsion is a stable suspension of reactive silicone oil droplets in water, usually containing a polymer, crosslinker, and catalyst component.
Key Physical & Chemical Characteristics of Emulsions
Reactive silicone oil in water emulsion
Stabilization by non-ionic surfactants
Dry silicone content: 40 to 60 %
Very fine particles of silicone
Average particle size: 1 to 3 µm
Key Application Characteristics of Emulsions
Polyaddition Pt Catalyst based:
Extremely versatile for most applications
Available with additives to help modify performance
Very fast curing
Compliant with direct food contact legislation
Potentially sensitive to surface inhibition
Polycondensation Tin Catalyst based:
Ideal for certain industrial application
Provides low coefficient of friction
No surface inhibition
Slower curing, may require additional time to reach full cure
